November 21, 2024Nov 21 BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2025 longlist: Barry Can’t Swim Chappell Roan Confidence Man Doechii English Teacher Ezra Collective Good Neighbours Kneecap Mk.gee Myles Smith Pozer Why is Chappell on here? She's already had a huge year.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 Yeah thats odd to me. She's had a #1 album and spent 26 weeks in the top 10, including 16 weeks in the top 5 of the singles chart.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 I thought you couldn't be on the Sound Of poll if you've already had a top 10 single and/or album?
November 21, 2024Nov 21 I think any semblance of rules they had went out of the window in the last few years, it’s all a bit make it up as you go along now  Chappell has to be the weirdest inclusion ever though because it’s not like she’s on the verge of breaking through. She’s quite literally one of the biggest stars of the year for MULTIPLE songs.

November 21, 2024Nov 21 From the NME: It was previously a rule of the Sound Of list that an artist would not be eligible if they had been the lead on a UK Number One or Number Two album by the cut-off point. However, this year that rule has changed so that an artist “cannot have had more than two Top 10 albums in the UK Official Albums Chart” by 30 September 2024 – enabling Chappell Roan to be listed.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 Author I'd imagine they changed the rules because it's easy enough to achieve a charting album given how low sales are right now. Yay for Confidence Man though, I could see them winning this
November 21, 2024Nov 21 These new rules are nonsense. So for example Arctic Monkeys could have been nominated for the 2007 Sound Of list despite having already had two No 1 singles and the fastest selling UK debut album of all time*? *(by a group? Can't remember exactly what record it broke)
November 21, 2024Nov 21 Author The charts are different now compared to 2007, I don't think you could draw comparison back to then as who's to say that Arctic Monkeys getting together only now would've resulted in the same success they had in the 00s? We won't know. The rules have changed to suit the current climate (same with Best New Artist at the BRITs). Chappell has been supported by Radio 1 even before this year's success so you could argue that she should've been on last year's list instead or even the year before's. At least they're recognising her Edited November 21, 2024Nov 21 by lewistgreen
November 21, 2024Nov 21 So does this mean it's a forgone conclusion that Chappell will win this or do any of the other nominees stand a chance? Of all the names I think Myles Smith could have a big year in 2025 if he plays his cards right.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 They don't tend to choose the big name fortunately - my money would be on Kneecap.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 thats kinda silly and nonsensical to include Chappell they should push new acts proper that are struggling not the biggest chart story of the year with nearly 300K sales and a bunch of hit singles
November 21, 2024Nov 21 Is there really any proof that those who win this award actually fair better than if they didn't get it? I mean does it truly provide any long-term publicity that can help shape the future of relatively unknown artists? My thoughts go toward acts like Flo, Celeste, Pa Salieu, Holly Humberstone and others. They seem to get this short-term hype and then it just dies off instantly and you never see them in the singles chart again.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 From the NME: But according to the BBC, another rule is not having 2 top 10 singles, and she achieved her 2nd on the chart revealed September 20th.
November 21, 2024Nov 21 Author But according to the BBC, another rule is not having 2 top 10 singles, and she achieved her 2nd on the chart revealed September 20th. Where is that stated sorry? Last year it was 3 Top 10 singles
November 21, 2024Nov 21 @Wardy Last Dinner Party seemed to do quite well off of this earlier in the year with a top 20 single number one album and good selling tour So it could help if R1 don’t give the win to someone who already has hits like Chappell Roam / Myles Smith
November 21, 2024Nov 21 Surprised they're not supporting Mette for instance thats the kinda artist that should be in the list, not Chappel Roan
