2024 - This year we're back to AIWFCIY having an early lead. Will Mariah maintain this lead or will Wham! overtake eventually? It's worth mentioning that both of these songs have new physical formats being released this year, to celebrate their anniversaries - the 30th anniversary of All I Want for Christmas Is You, and 40th anniversary of Last Christmas. Mariah's are released on 6th December (meaning they'll be included in the 13th December chart), while Wham!'s are released on 13th December (for the 20th December chart - which is the Christmas week chart).[/color]

From what I recall, Mariah’s physicals didn’t make much impact last time around. Then again, what we saw from the reissue of Careless Whisper is that there is a lot of demand for George Michael physical products.

In a way, it’s not surprising that they are released in different weeks as they are on the same record label.

Thanks Jay for summarising all of this data!

Oooh! Please explain the quirk?

Songs which have charted for 52 cumulative weeks need to re-enter the top 25 to appear on the chart again, Mariah has already reached that mark but Wham! haven't yet so they're able to enter at a lower position.

Ahhh! Thank you.

:drama: and we're back to Last Christmas leading the way, already! So, well done to the 37 of us who predicted that this would indeed happen: Will 'Last Christmas' overtake 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' in the coming weeks?

Now the question is, will Mariah be able to get back ahead of Wham at any point this year? I can only see it happening now in her physical release week *if* they actually sell decently enough.

Oop, my prediction not looking so great (unless Mariah snatches a week with her physicals) x

I am living in hope that Mariah can grab it this coming week and wham will more than likely the week after as they also have physicals but theirs are for the following week
It will be interesting to see! I don’t think Mariah‘s physicals made that much of an impact last time they were released. But people are more into buying physical singles now than 5 years ago.
