It’s a glitch - I think White Christmas’s streams are going to that in the chart for some reason. One day it was showing up as White Christmas the next day as Hey Santa Claus with the movement based on White Christmas’ position the previous day

 

'White Christmas' has been glitchy on Spotify before, it was getting the streams of 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' some days last year iirc. Not sure how this happens...

 

(also I find myself firmly in favour of "fake" "Alexa" streams this year, I'm no big fan of 'Last Christmas' but Gracie Abrams would be an awful Christmas #1)

Big news - SZA is releasing her highly anticipated project Lana, the deluxe version of her hit second album SOS this Friday. Definitely going to have an impact on the streaming charts next week.

Now all we need is Lana Del Rey to release an album called SZA :D

Also, the Friday before Christmas is a strange time to release an album!

Honestly if it wasn’t the 40th anniversary I think Gracie would have got it

The biggest streaming week for Christmas songs will obviously be next week.

 

Yeah that is true; i'm guessing mega numbers from Saturday onwards!

 

 

They seem to be changing the order of Christmas Hits every day.

Gracie's team should have pushed this week!

 

I do think we'll see a trend of Christmas song's not doing as well in the couple of weeks before Christmas in the week (As people are getting earlier and earlier with putting decs up) BUT then having bigger streaming on Christmas day.

I feel like as a nation we're being gaslit by Spotify into believeing that Jingle Bell Rock is one of the biggest Christmas favourites. Brenda is fine - the song was always popular here in some form, but come on, not Bobby at the top.

 

Crazy they've shoved The Pogues down by about 20 places compared to a few weeks ago.

 

Sabrina as high as No.4 now too.

 

There's no real way of changing the situation because there is no dominant Spotify curated UK alternative, like other countries seem to have. Christmas Crackers has over 400,000 though I guess and is clearly UK targeted. But Christmas Hits is clearly used far more here, looking at how some of the more random songs on it make it into the chart.

Tyla up to a new peak of #127 on spotify and #144 on Apple Music. Might have a chance of debuting in the top 100 come Friday.

I can’t see how any logic takes you to “That’s So True” being the best streamer when it can’t even match the best streamer halved. And as far as I’m aware there’s no evidence of Amazon streams being fake - we know there’s a lot of autoplay happening of course.

Last week True did >1 million more than Wham when applying Acr

How did the idea of Alexa streams being fake even come about? Obviously for the rest of the year Amazon isn't the biggest platform but you have to remember the amount of people with smart speakers is huge and everyone who wants to listen to Christmas songs while doing Christmassy activities is likely to do so using Alexa. Also got to remember that Christmas listening is more centralised than the rest of the year so people who usually listen to exclusively older songs on Alexa will be listening to the same Christmas songs as those who listen to current hits, making Amazon numbers much larger than usual. For example my Beatles/Beach Boys loving grandma puts Alexa on at Christmas when she would usually just listen to her vinyls. Alexa numbers are 100% legit it's just their originals being on SCR giving a false impression

The concept has been tried and tested where when someone asks Alexa to play Christmas songs the Amazon Original plays every other song or every 2 songs, therefore artificially inflating it's streams.

 

I haven't tested it this year but Sam Ryder was literally played 38 times in the 100 Christmas songs that played when I asked Alexa to play 'Christmas Songs' :lol:

I feel more inclined to trust the overall chart rather than chart fans who piece it together with less information and cry foul the moment it doesn't suit their perspective. Spotify is the holy bible until it doesn't look right and then suddenly those streams are fake/illegitimate/meaningless as well.
