The concept has been tried and tested where when someone asks Alexa to play Christmas songs the Amazon Original plays every other song or every 2 songs, therefore artificially inflating it's streams.

I haven't tested it this year but Sam Ryder was literally played 38 times in the 100 Christmas songs that played when I asked Alexa to play 'Christmas Songs'

Doesn't mean it's fake, just means they're pushing their product very very hard. Sure it makes a total mockery of the charts but for all intents and purposes the chart counts them as real streams :D

I feel more inclined to trust the overall chart rather than chart fans who piece it together with less information and cry foul the moment it doesn't suit their perspective. Spotify is the holy bible until it doesn't look right and then suddenly those streams are fake/illegitimate/meaningless as well.

I mean it’s very clear that Spotify has a lot of power to manipulate songs positions, for example when random old songs randomly jump from outside the top 200 to near the top 50 for a couple of weeks before disappearing - that’s clearly manufactured and not due to people actively seeking them out.

Next week last week Christmas song then big nightmare come back call mr brightside another 48 week

I see what you're saying but I'm sure when we're talking 'fake streams' everyone's referring to Amazon artificially inflating a songs streams by playing it a ridiculous number of times when someone asks Alexa to play Christmas songs. I know playlists do the same but the difference is most users aren't asking Alexa to play a playlist they are simply asking for 'Christmas songs' so Amazon have totally capitalised on that unlike a playlist that features a song once.

Alexa's streaming power during Christmas season is a bit sad and hilarious at the same time. It gives the flop artists like Jess Glynne top 5 hits which is fun to watch. We need Amazon original by Spice Girls or East 17!

How is One More Sleep so high on Spotify when it's down low on the Christmas Hits playlist? It's charting higher than songs that are placed above it on this playlist.

The only explanation I can think of is that people are specifically seeking it out or that the Christmas Crackers playlist is more influential.

Mariah back at the top of Christmas hits, Jingle Bell Rock down to 5. Why can't they stick to one tracklist? Someone in charge upset that Wham has overtaken Mariah worldwide this year?
I don't think I'll ever find it not a joke how it got 'River' to #1, despite barely anybody being consciously aware the song exists.

It's actually in rotation a lot on my local radio station, it's high up on our Christmas playlist alongside the Jess Glynne one

Chris Rea/Leona/Wizzard/Slade I believe are all being specifically searched more than a lot of the stuff higher on Christmas Hits.

The first three are outside the first 60 on Christmas Hits, with Slade not even on it?? Yet all comfortably in the UK top 50 most played. Christmas Crackers probably is responsible too though, but I doubt it's more influential than Christmas Hits, going by how well the crooners are all suddenly doing (plus Laufey and this year's Spotify exclusives).

Idk what’s happened to Chris Rea especially on Spotify, I remember he was comfortably top 10 a few years ago and I think he even has a daily peak of #4
Maybe the dasha version being pushed isn't helping him

Now all we need is Lana Del Rey to release an album called SZA :D

Also, the Friday before Christmas is a strange time to release an album!

SZA seems to be quite fond of a December release - the original album also came out in December as did both of its first two singles (2 years and 1 year before the album respectively lol, 'Good Days' literally dropped on Christmas Day in 2020).

Jorja Smith was an Amazon original last year with ‘Stay Another Day’ 😀

I can't wait til these tired ass Christmas songs are out of the chart and real music like Peggy is at the top

I think people have finally realised that it's just really, REALLY dull and boring! :D
