A festive survivor to determine the best and worst singles for John Lewis ads over the years.

The previous round has seen the following two songs eliminated;

2014: Tom Odell – Real Love

In their press release ahead of the 2014 campaign launch, John Lewis stated that the strapline for the advert was "Give someone the Christmas they've been wishing for". They added that "the heartwarming advert tells the tale of an unlikely friendship between a little boy Sam and his penguin friend Monty." British singer-songwriter Tom Odell recorded a cover for the advert of the 1977 John Lennon song "Real Love", which was the last official song recorded by the Beatles after being released in 1996, prior to another being released in 2023.

2019: Bastille – Can't Fight This Feeling

Edgar, a young dragon, is so excited about Christmas that he cannot control the flames from his mouth. He even burns the village Christmas tree, dampening everyone's Christmas spirit. But when his best friend Ava gives him a thoughtful gift just right for an excitable dragon, he realises how much she cares for him. The advert features Bastille covering REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling" with the London Contemporary Orchestra.

2009: Taken By Trees – Sweet Child o' Mine
2010: Ellie Goulding – Your Song
2011: Slow Moving Millie – Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
2012: Gabrielle Aplin – The Power Of Love
2013: Lily Allen – Somewhere Only We Know
2014: Tom Odell – Real Love
2015: Aurora – Half The World Away
2016: Vaults – One Day I'll Fly Away
2017: Elbow – Golden Slumbers
2018: Elton John – Your Song
2019: Bastille – Can't Fight This Feeling
2020: Celeste – A Little Love
2021: Lola Young – Together In Electric Dreams
2022: Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles Pity Party – All The Small Things
2023: Andrea Bocelli – Festa
2024: Richard Ashcroft – Sonnet

Here is a Spotify playlist to assist you;

You have around 48 hours for this round before the next round begins. One more song will be eliminated. Please select your least favourite song from the list above. ^_^

At least Tom lasted a few rounds

Went for Gabrielle but actually this survivor’s just confirmed to me that they’re mostly pretty rubbish. “Real Love” was one of my favourites of the weak bunch and it’s gone. And I can’t understand why the original “Your Song” went and the breathy cover stayed. Admittedly I’m still slightly confused exactly what we were voting for regarding Elton’s John Lewis version, but if it was the original “Your Song” that was the best song in the running by a mile.

Real Love should not be out yet, gutting that it is, my favourite song and advert here. A beautiful track, one that Tom hasn't performed live much but I'm pleased to say I've heard it live :wub:

Celeste gets my vote.

Voted Lily again (went for Lily and Bastille in the previous round and got one of those, but I agree that Tom's was one of the better ones here).

N.B. the original post still says "Please select your three least favourite songs from the list above"

Thanks Jim, fixed that now.

I voted Vaults for yet another round, and they're still here. Tom Odell certainly deserved to be here longer, and I quite liked the Bastille cover too.
