Is Tom doing any Sam Ryder-esque promo? Obviously it's too late for him but was just interested

I think he got a Christmas #1 tattoo and is encouraging people to buy the vinyl a lot(not released until next week) so not really sure he understands how it works

Personally, I’d love Last Christmas to be Xmas #1 every year until a better Christmas song comes along.

But there are already far better Christmas songs out there. Wham’s last Christmas is very overrated and not the best Christmas song by a long shot and the fact it looks like being Christmas no1 again this year just reflects the sad state of the singles chart.

This chart is the first I've learnt of a vinyl for Daft Punk's Discovery with the original Japanese artwork being released this week. Now it's sold out everywhere of course, shame.

Does appear to be a landslide for Wham! Good for them, hopefully the physical sales are healthy, I bought the CD they put out last year.

Tom is currently only up 7.5% based on the Monday mids last week btw, considering it went up over 50% overall last week this is a real stunt in his growth from Alexa. Although I don't have the sales to hand for the previous Monday to see what increase it was tracking comparatively at the midweek stage compared to the full week last week.

He essentially doubled his Monday figure for the full week last week, which if mirrored this week would put him on only 35k or so for the week - if this is the case then Gracie and Mariah would definitely overtake, so Alexa will have to get her skates on for Tom to even get to No.2.

As much as I could not stand The X Factor winner getting Xmas no 1 every year back then, next year would be a good time to bring it back and make the show a ratings winner again.

Interested to hear how you'd propose making that happen in 2024, and even moreso how a winner's single would be that big in the streaming era.

Ah, the good old days when 750,000 people would rush out to buy a single they'd probably listen to once at most, all because their favourite contestant won a TV series. Let's not go back there. Successive years of Wham! may become tedious, but at least it's a genuinely popular song.
Kelly actually climbing hopefully she can still by Friday, she normally drops a little this week so would love it to repeak again
Should A Nonsense Christmas not technically be classified as a remix of Nonsense and thus inherit its chart run?
I'm very happy to see Tom Grennan at 2. Hopefully the start of pop stars realising the Christmas song is alive again

More like the very good playlisting resulting in loads of passive listeners is alive again... The Tom track is alright but 80% of the people pushing it into the chart didn't consciously decide to stream it

Yeah it's an odd decision to not release the physicals until next week, and I for one would have bought a CD to help him get the top spot if they were out this week. Presumably Amazon never dreamt he'd be as high as number two at the midweek stage this week so were working on the basis of trying to get the new years number one rather than the xmas number one. Or are they allowed to count this week's physical pre-orders towards this week instead of counting them next week? This is actually the first Amazon exclusive I've had any real awareness of, having first stumbled across a duet version that youtube recommended to me. I've downloaded the Amazon-exclusive solo version already (after several false starts, as Amazon music downloading doesn't seem to work terribly well).

The melodies are the same but lyrically they are completely different

Listened to Alexa today for the first time and Toms song was played 18th in the list of Xmas songs!

Would still technically mean they should be combined. Just look at the Brat remixes which are way different to the original they were still combined

Not really the brat remixes change a verse, a nonsense christmas basically rewrites the whole song

Oh Christ, no thanks. I hope they don’t bring it back. I hated everything about the X factor tbh. Most of their Christmas songs were absolutely dire - bland, tuneless manufactured rubbish selling in a bucketload.
