My BJSC qualifier from last year! WE ARE ONE are another Christian band that are a little different to the usual, and this has almost an Avicii-dance feel with the brass in the chorus. The music video is very much a production as opposed to visuals for the song though!

At number 19 we have the highest appearance from Icelandic crooner Axel Flovent with this sad ballad. This sort of music just grabs me, it's slow but with so much character as well. Looking forward very much to seeing what's next for him!

It's been a while since Amy Shark has been in my chart since her initial burst - my tastes in music and lyrics have generally veered away from the sort of music she makes - but I was delighted to hear this song with its positive message to not let life pass you by and hold on to love if you think it's the right time. And amazingly it's only her second number 1 in my chart!

Another slow guitar song, this is a duo between two people singing about how their love and pain intermingle and how they're able to hold each other through the hard times. I knew I'd enjoy this song from first listen but it took a few weeks for me to hear it enough times to really get on board. It's a really lovely song, and I should probably listen to more from these two!

And just outside the Top 15 we have a song by Crowder and TobyMac, both artists who have been around for quite some time! This is a fairly stark song talking about what you do in your life, as on gravestones there's only a 'dash' between your date of birth and your date of death. It's quite an earworm and certainly gets you thinking.

Hi Pete!

Love seeing "The Feeling", "Bright Lights", "Memories", "Hollow", "One Cry", "Rim Tim Tagi Dim", "Mon Amour" and "Head Down" since my last comment.

I will return to finishing my Year-End list as well as commenting on all of your Year-end charts!

Glad you're a fan of these! Interested as always to see what pops up in your EOY ^_^ Thanks Sergej!

Cool to see Metric here! I enjoyed their Formentera album a lot a few years ago.

Also very happy to see Metric here, it's always great to receive double figure points, but to make a lasting impression means a lot! It hit me the most on second listen with how the mood shifts over six minutes.

Glad you're both happy to see Metric here! It really is a great song, definitely did make a lasting impression. Thanks Jade / Jim!

my faves since my last comment:

#70 Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim -> this was such fun, long live rock-adjacent dance tracks at Eurovision! should've won indeed

#68 Slimane - Mon amour -> didn't have much replay value after Eurovision but this was an impressive performance

#61 Lost Frequencies - Head Down (ft. Bastille) -> certainly one of his more interesting productions of recent

#37 Metric - Days of Oblivion -> was expecting 'Doomscroller' to be a one-off for me that I'd like from them so this was a great find off Jim

There's definitely a grammatical error in the title of this song  But it's yet another brilliant song from Andrew Ripp, focussing on the power of love and how it can bring healing and overcome hate. And it also reminds me of my holiday in the summer which is a bonus!

Blossoms broke their seven-year streak of no Top 10 hits in style this year with their first ever number one in this tune. The first and probably only number 1 in my chart to be based on the story of a giant gorilla statue stolen from a garden centre in Lanarkshire, they somehow turn that into a real toe-tapping tune and earworm. And another one that conveniently reminds me of summer!

The most recent chart-topper to make my EOY, this song managed to make a decent dent in the charts as well and is only the fourth-highest Top 40 hit in my chart this year - a good year for the mainstream songs! Sam really puts so much power into his songs, this one is about a close friend who passed away and all the emotions that come with that, but the gusto with which he sings makes you really want to relate to it.

A chart-topper from some less well-represented nations now, as Brazil and Kenya join forces to create a really refreshingly-new sounding dance song (ignoring the follow-up which did chart, basically sounded the same and wasn't as good!) The song I think is about someone's parents not liking their boyfriend, but even after hearing one clip of it I was hooked (despite the really weird visualiser video that was released before the actual video came out) and it debuted straight in at number 1. Annoyingly the beat sounds a bit like my parents' car when it locks so that's what reminds me of it now!

An artist no-one expected to make a mainstream comeback but did anyway this year was Scottish postman Nathan Evans (although I imagine he's not a postman anymore!) with this jaunty little tune, which was so close to making the Top 40 but fell just short. Nevertheless I loved this song and still love it, it's such a toe-tapper and his voice is delightful. And it's only the fifth-highest Top 100 song on my list! :o

Sadly for Joseph, my mainstream song of the year doesn't quite hit the top spot here! It isn't actually the highest Top 20 song in this countdown but it is the highest-peaking in the Official Charts so still deserves that award. It's something so different and so alternative, with a focus on looking back to where the singer comes from. Plus a few synths to finish it off!

I've been aware of Dutch band DI-RECT for quite a few years now (as my chart history betrays, they had a couple of minor hits at the start of the decade) but this song was on a completely different level to anything I've heard so far. It's a rousing indie-rock song which builds and builds as the song goes on, singing about giving someone the best of him and reminders that he's still alive and throws that into his actions. A brilliant track!

The highest non-Number 1 song in my chart lands here! Grace Graber is a Christian pop-rock artist with a special focus on mental health. This song is a real call-out of the superficial-ness that comes with the public sphere and life in general, pointing to a different way. This entered my chart just before Lent but continued to climb afterwards, eventually just missing out on the top spot.

Part One of 'songs that Buzzjack as a whole can't stand but are actually absolutely fantastic', when a love song like this enters the chart it's a real breath of fresh air amongst the array of songs about break-ups and unhealthy relationships that the general public tend to lap up. The instrumentation is beautiful and so soothing, and the song's focus of a hard heart being melted by love is just wonderful. More of this sort of music from Coldplay please!

And we also have a Eurovision song making the Top 10! As per usual this song didn't grab me massively on first listen (the thing that grabbed me the most was the fact that Teresa & Maria weren't the names of the artists despite that being clearly what it said on the scorecard ), but as I listened to it again it very quickly became my favourite song from this contest. The backing music and the almost chant-like chorus really bring this song to life - the song is about how women like Mary and Mother Teresa were born as normal humans, which indeed they were - God can use anyone!

#61 Lost Frequencies - Head Down (ft. Bastille) -> certainly one of his more interesting productions of recent

#37 Metric - Days of Oblivion -> was expecting 'Doomscroller' to be a one-off for me that I'd like from them so this was a great find off Jim

Glad you've had the time to read through and that you like these ones! Thanks Dan ^_^

'Mwaki' is wonderful! Was impressed to see how relatively well-known it became outside their respective countries.

Indeed, a brilliant song - I only wish it could have hit the UK charts! Thanks Jordan ^_^

'Teresa & Maria' was probably my biggest post-contest grower from Eurovision this year! A beautiful song and I appreciate the fusion of different genres.

Glad you were such a fan - it really does stick in the head doesn't it. Thanks Jade!

Nice to see "People Watching", "End Of Beginning" and "Feelslikeimfallinginlove" in your list for the top 15.

Glad you like all these songs!

Chart Statistics

At Number 5 we have Amistat, a German indie duo I hadn't heard of until they happened to pop up on my YouTube recommended in early November. This is beautiful song talking about the difficult time when a relationship you wanted to last longer falls away, and the singer coming to realise he is still worthy of love. Very excited to see what's next from these guys.

Going from one of the most recent number 1s in the countdown at number 5 to the first number 1 of the year at number 4, it's Irish strummer Darren Kiely. He impressed me with Lost and Found at the tail end of 2023, and so I was interested to see what else he was releasing. This song pushed through the Christmas rush to hit the top spot in the new year. It's a really beautiful song that just keeps building and has so much energy and determination in the vocals.

And moving into the Top 3 of 2024, we have a song that's made a grand resurgence in the charts in 2025! Alex Warren is definitely a mixed bag when it comes to his material, some being more positive whilst at other times being less flattering. But this is an absolute masterpiece, such a positive and uplifting song talking about lifelong love and being with that one person knowing they're the only love you'll need for the rest of your life. Love love love, more music like this in the charts please

Whilst everything below this point was fairly variable as I was compiling this chart, the Top 2 were pretty much set in their place from the moment I started thinking about my overall list. As soon as the drums start in this song I can't help but get off my seat, it's such an earworm and Kinnship has an amazing vocal range which gives him a brilliant indie sound, and then the synths take it to a whole new level. And then after the verse and chorus, the bridge kicks in initially with just synths before building up to a massive climax before fading back to those captivating percussion rhythms at the end. And the lyrics are so thoughtful as well. Love this song, he is absolutely my artist discovery of this year.

They've done it! After missing out in 2020 due to two Declan McKenna songs, this year there was absolutely no competition for what my Number 1 would be. Funnily enough this song didn't grab me immediately on first listen, and I was pondering whether it was even deserving of making #1 in my weekly chart, but as the weeks ticked by at #1 it became clear that it was no ordinary song for me. There's so much emotion in his vocals and I can never get over that, it has everything it needs musically to be a brilliant song and I'm so happy The Coronas decided to release this as the lead from their album. Fab fab fab song

I remember 'Toiling' from BJSC although I was in the other semi, it deserved better than it got! 'People Watching' is my favourite of those I know from the top 20, although I gave 'Beautiful Eyes' a listen as I knew a couple of songs from Amy Shark and quite like this one too.

I like these from the top 15 ~

2 Kinnship Toiling -> this was probably my top pick of your recent contest songs too

6 alyona alyona & Jerry Heil Teresa & Maria -> I'm always on board for something grand sounding like this at Eurovision

10 Djo End of Beginning

12 Zerb & Sofiya Nzau Mwaki -> this really ought to have been a UK crossover hit, it was rather big elsewhere in the world

13 Sam Fender People Watching
