Posted December 15, 2024Dec 15 In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez). Week 10 saw our first song to get 10 votes for best of the week, and the first to win the poll by a margin of more than 1 vote - Blondie's 'Heart Of Glass' doing so, ahead of The Knack's 'My Sharona' in 2nd place with 8 votes (enough to win most weeks). Bee Gees rounded out the top 3 with 7 votes for 'Stayin' Alive' (they got a total of 13 votes including 4 for 'Tragedy' and 2 for 'Night Fever' as well). It was a comfortable win on the worst poll for Debby Boone's snoozer and inexplicably massive hit 'You Light Up My Life' getting 9 votes, ahead of Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond's similarly drab 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers' on 6 votes and a tie for third place on 4 votes each for Nick Gilder's song that I don't want to keep typing the title of and Commodores' 'Three Times A Lady'. December 15, 2024Dec 15 Author ^ technically a little bit late as I already played the winner on SyncTube but those votes don't change the winner(s) so I'll count them for the official stats :magic: (no more votes tho pls x)
December 15, 2024Dec 15 sorry Im on holiday and just saw the list, so I'm having msay anyway best: Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) The Human League - Don't You Want Me Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes Diana Ross - Upside Down worst: Sheena Easton - 9 To 5 striking a blow against feminism before she saw the naughty light Technically the Coming Up number one was Wings doing a live version - The USA having none of that experimental synth 'rubbish' on his second solo album so I'm nominating that one out of spite for having cultural bad taste. Air Supply - The One That You Love - Air Supply had 3 great singles. This one wasnt one of them...
December 15, 2024Dec 15 Author Go on then, that also doesn't change the winners so I'll count it too. New poll going up shortly anyhoo! (and whoops I didn't know that about 'Coming Up', although according to Wikipedia Billboard didn't officially list it as the live version until after it already dropped off #1)
