  • I only played it in 2025, but AstroBot!! Actually got my first ever platinum trophy from it. Fab game and really makes clever use of the PS5 controller and all that it can do

as ever I don't tend to buy new games... BUT going off games that were nominated at The Game Awards and therefore of those that I'm interested to play in the future - the one that stands out is Balatro, as I love roguelike deckbuilders* and it was the only inspired-looking indie game of note in those awards.

*speaking of which the sequel to one of the best games of all-time Slay The Spire, still one of my most regularly played games, is out early 2025 and that I may well buy soon after release assuming it looks as good as the trailers say it is.

actually taking a look at what I've played this year I think the game I've played the most is Slay The Spire so that for the 'released at any time' category.

I haven't actually played any 2024 released games if I am honest, oops, but I do still play games that regularly get updated like Apex Legends, Fortnite and Overwatch 2, Those give me still joy to play. I do also still have a back log of games to complete as I am terrible at completing anything really, games wise, tv wise etc.

I do still play a 2023 game that came out last year tho like Mortal Kombat 1. That is rather a game I love to play from time to time still,

Great visual presentation, wonderful soundtrack, nice English dubbing and easy-to-understand RPG mechanics.

That being said, I haven't played very many strictly 2024 games this year. I give strong positive endorsements to Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom (if you like '90s 3D platformers) and Leap Year (if you like super short games that make you say 'ooh that's neat'). I also haven't played it yet but UFO 50 is probably the best game of the year, just the sheer audacity of it.

Agreed, lived up to Persona an Atlus RPG in every way. Incredible story, an impeccably crafted world, and really fun class/levelling mechanics that actually made you want to grind and get new skills/classes.

Update: I have played UFO 50 now and it deserves all those accolades given to it by me. Genuine 'makes everyone else look bad by comparison' vibes.

Of games released in 2024 it has to be Helldivers 2. That was such a fun couple months playing with friends.
