Jingle Bell Rock is now #1 on Christmas Hits again.

O Holy Night by Celine Dion which I don’t think I’ve ever heard is #12

The Pogues have been moved back up to #26

Well yes, but that's not really relevant? It's done nowhere near as well as the original 'SOS' either here or in the US. That had 9 songs in the top 40 in the UK on day 1, including having the 2nd, 3rd and 5th highest non-Christmas songs. The dropoff in the US is arguably even more extreme, the original album had the entire top 11 and a bunch more in the top 20 on day 1 there, while the deluxe has only got 1 song in the top 20 (at #9).

It's nice to compare Lana to SOS because both have been released in December.

agree, think it was getting traction but then Kill Bill exploded

And people moved to that One on tiktok

For me the jewel of SOS is Ghost in the Machine

Which Had lots of potential to go viral cos of the topic of online ghosting but alas…

Difference is Sos was out Dec 9

Lana on Xmas week. Its clear xmas week is

Not a good idea.

We're still doomering on releases within days even though the result is more pertinent months down the track, or even years in some cases?

If the drop off is bigger in the US doesn't that suggest less people care about it everywhere then

Most albums peak in popularity in their first week though so that's when it's highest peak will be achieved. Obviously for streaming acts like SZA it doesn't matter when it's released for overall success but for a number one peak the correct release date is everything

I never said anything suggesting otherwise?

Interesting that Spotify is pushing O Holy Night by Celine Dion this year. There are two songs with more streams on the album (Happy Xmas and The Prayer).

On the Brenda Lee combining thing, I think the two versions of Disturbed's Sound Of Silence were released on different labels (original on Reprise, remix on Spinnin') so again it must be a case-by-case basis. However both those labels are owned by Warner so maybe it's to do with both versions being under the same label group?

So far 3.4 mill on Spotify this week for Wham I think the record is 10.5 mill from Adele and 24 mill for all streaming services for the week. Wham should beat both records by the end of the week.

on Spotify, the new Sound of Silence remix is actually part of an EP that also has the original 2015 version

so sure they're under the same label/umbrella and count together

if you play the remix, the original automatically plays after

I guess it’s impossible to tell unless the re-recorded version somehow gets certified. However it’s probably doing like 20k a year so we might be waiting a while
Anyone know what label the other version of Brenda is on?

the re-recorded 91 version of Brenda is on Warners

the original from the 60s is on MCA Nashville/UMG Recordings

according to Spotify labelling

Ah thanks, so if the label theory is true they wouldn't be combined

Wham! #1 on Christmas Hits. Could go #1 globally.

Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town is #7 with Celine Dion up to #8 so massive new peaks for them tomorrow I’d assume
