The midweeks were so awful back then, as most of the Elvis singles obviously sold extremely well on the first day so it always looked like he'd be No.1 initially.

Sometimes the competition couldn't claw a way past by the end of the week as sales were so low generally, so he did end up with a few No.1s, but so many deserving songs ended up with lower peaks of 2/3/4/5 due to this series. The CDs were seen as collectors items at the time and were numbered, so fans snapped them up, but a quick check on eBay shows they are worth very little now.

I remember Michael Jackson had a similar series the following year but it didn't do anywhere near as well, mostly top 20 area iirc.

Billie Jean got to 11 I think but the MJ ones didn’t trouble the chart as much. They even tried to do the Elvis ones again in late 2007 to commemorate 30 years since his death with different tracks but they didn’t trouble the top 10 at all.

Quite a few spring to mind (some may have already been posted)

- Maria getting eliminated on X Factor felt like the show’s first big controversy and I remember the Conway Sisters getting so much hate. IIRC their own mentor ended up sending them home lol (Simon?)

- Big Brother: Makosi in the hot tub, Kinga with the bottle, Craig being super creepy towards Anthony throughout.

- Celebrity Love Island launched and I remember being obsessed. Pure trash though and wasn’t really received too well.

- Rihanna debuted with Pon De Replay and steadily became huge!

- Den was killed for real on EastEnders for its 20th anniversary. The Sam, Zoe and Chrissie combo was genius!

- Sugababes triumphantly returning with Push the Button. Sadly Mutya left not long after.

England v Australia The Ashes:

Remember watching this live on Channel 4 during the summer:

Brokeback Mountain, the film was incredibly brave for the time, as were Jake and Heath for their roles!
