Colombian artist Ela Minus' 2020 debut acts of rebellion, felt intentionally small, as if pounding inside the club with late-night reverie, DÍA is both introspective and expansive, the wide sweep of its songs revealing more of Ela as person and producer than ever before.

 

DÍA is a record about becoming, from a process that entailed self-discovery at a deliberate pace to songs that seem to collectively ask where we go from here, long after we’ve been broken but

long before we intend to be broken forever. Throughout the 10 songs, mixed by Marta Salogni and mastered by Heba Kadry, the same team behind acts of rebellion, Ela seems to saddle a line between worlds of pop accessibility and experimental aplomb, her incandescent choruses always surrounded by meticulous and imaginative sonics.

Ooh I considered making a topic for this the other day but evidently didn't get around to it so I'm glad one exists now :wub:

 

'UPWARDS' is my current obsession so cannot wait for the album.

 

'QQQQ' is a heavenly sad banger <3 Friday could not come sooner!

The production, the writing, the transitions — it's all fantastic

 

 

I don't like to make too many comparisons to other artists but there is something so 'Pure Heroine' about 'IDOLS', and 'I WANT TO BE BETTER' is like a perfect homage to The Knife. Obsessed with all it tbh

That run of tracks from QQQQ to UPWARDS is relentless

Unsurprisingly echoing the praise <3 love the electroclash and glitch pop soundscape she explores plus the vulnerable depth to the lyrics.

 

My initial favourite of the songs I didn't already know is 'ONWARDS' - the confident stride she hits on that one is so infectious the distortion on 'IDK' was also a fun surprise!!

 

Looking forward to getting to know this album more and more; the snappy 33 minute run-time shall lend itself well to repeat plays.

Critic score of 80 on AOTY at the moment! My faves are the electroclash songs but COMBAT really hit me now, a beautiful and perfect album closer.

Was expecting this to be in the Dance forum - anyway I'm fully loving this! It's really helped lift my mood and forget about all the awful world news at the moment. “Broken” despite its title is so ebullient & upbeat, it reminds me of a mashup between Orbital's “Belfast” and Jamie xx's “Gosh”, and the playlisting of “Upwards” since Christmas on 6Music has won me over. That and the wonderful “QQQQ” are my favourites I think rn.

 

I didn't appreciate “Combat” enough as a single, however it makes total sense here closing out the album perfectly.

I haven't stopped playing this all week... in awe at how strong the project is from start to finish <3 strong AOTY contender even if it's only January

 

I did chart 'COMBAT' when it first came out but agreed that it works even better in the context of the album.
