As ever we take out much of the rap in the bottom section. Placing in dead-last was one of the two album tracks from the Future & Metro Boomin collab project to also be assisted by Travis Scott - 'Cinderella' scored one negative vote with nothing positive whilst 'Type Shit' got one small vote. Another rap collab project barely anyone thought positively of came from Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign - 'Back To Me' scored two negative votes however also had one positive vote of +2 to counteract one of the haters. Two people rated 'Burn' enough for it to score 7 points. Central Cee continued to release mediocre UK drill with no one pointing either of his two entries, whilst the Drake-assisted breakthrough for 4batz, a rapper who has seemingly already been forgotten about, also passed everyone by. Drake himself in the highly publicised rap beef with Kendrick Lamar had two tracks against him chart, the first of these 'Push Ups' was rated slightly better. One of the two Eminem album tracks in 'Habits' also appears alongside D-Block Europe who have quite rapidly declined in popularity however did manage one forgotten top 20 hit, alongside TikTok driven one hit wonder rapper Ndotz. Outside of rap we have the short-lived fan-boosted hit from ex-BTS member V (the bots' budget clearly being saved up for Jimin later in the year) and one of the yearly inorganic Alexa-driven Christmas "hits" from Laufey.

The other Eminem album track only manages a few extra points and bows out at #40, this one being quite lucky to chart at all as it was only for it being a short album intro track. One of the year's latest big rap album releases came from Tyler, the Creator who manages to escape the bottom rung with both his album tracks - the first of these being album opener 'St. Chroma'. Middling rap one hit wonders no longer being limited to just the men, we also had Flo Milli and Lay Bankz this year who scored a handful of votes each. Bryson Tiller managed his biggest hit in a few years coming up close to a decade since his feature on the #1 DJ Khaled hit. The lowest-scoring dance hit of the year came from Irish one hit wonder act NewEra, a fair position for them given it was one of the least interesting dance hits we've had recently. Coldplay came back same as they ever was though it clearly helped them sell a boat-load of albums, their more interesting follow-up will appear later on. Another TikTok 1HW from Paul Russell here which wasn't so much a sample as it was taking the entire instrumental of 'Best of My Love' and rapping over it, had more fans than perhaps expected. Meanwhile Liam Gallagher still manages a big enough fanbase to get a short-lived comeback hit with every album cycle and Sabrina Carpenter's Christmasified re-write of one of her earlier hits took off in a big way following her increased profile.

Just Another Rainbow is the only song listed so far that I'd even so much as listen to!

A charity release getting any sort of chart impact is especially rare these days however Mark Knopfler formerly of Dire Straits managed to sell quite a few CDs to get a re-recording of his song 'Going Home' with a whole load of friends into the top 20 for a week in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. Another TikTok one hit wonder rapper appears next albeit one of the more interesting of them in recent times, Hanumankind is also one of a very few from India to have had a chart hit and the song deserved more of a run that it eventually got as the vitality faded rather quickly. French rapper Stromae got a belated second hit thanks to featuring prominently in the Netflix show Arcane albeit the song also fell off rather fast due to Christmas so is unlikely to surpass the sales of the better 'Alors on Danse'. Another media tie-in song next up coming from the most "popular" film of the year Wicked - with it being a musical starring chart superstar Ariana Grande she unsurprisingly got her three hits out of it although the one solo effort is the lower of the two eligible for this contest. Calvin Harris had a bit of an off-year releasing only two singles neither of which made the top 10. The bigger hit of the two which was his second collab with Rag'n'Bone Man was seen as rather mid and indeed it appears at the midpoint of the countdown here.

The response track to Drake's 'Push Ups' (see #41) saw the beef really kick off with 'Euphoria' just missing out on a top 10 spot for Kendrick, only kept out by... himself with 'Not Like Us' being released just days later. With the focus being put on the latter effort this fell out fairly quickly afterwards but clearly did the job it needed to from Kendrick's pov. Christmas time again and as ever in this rate we get a belated entry or two from a slow riser, the first of these being from Sia who had her previous top 20 'Santa's Coming For Us' fairly quickly rotated out in favour of 'Snowman' a few years back and now it belatedly gains a top 20 peak itself. It's a lovely song anyhow that certainly looks set to be a modern day festive favourite. Tyler, the Creator's surprise album drop was given a brief warning with the track 'Noid' that came out midweek prior to the full album assisting it to a brief top 20 peak before more popular album tracks overtook. However it was the favourite for three voters here accounting for over half its points total. Meanwhile the controversial Kygo 'Whatever' is next to appear, despite placing 2nd in the Buzzjack Hate Chart it of course had a fair few supporters as well so it was never going to feature in the bottom section. Five sets of negative points does deny it a top 20 placing however. Getting a second run in the chart after their Brits performance was Jungle with 'Back On 74' gaining a top 20 peak this year. The song placed 18th in last year's non-top 20 ranking so the year gap since hasn't seen it gain or lose any supporters.

My two absolute least favourites in the rate - and just about of the entire year - thankfully going out in the two places before the top 20
I'm pleased Whatever almost managed top 20. It gets so much undeserved hate in this place. :drama:

Commencing the top 20 we have a double dose of Ariana Grande. First up is another character piece as Glinda from Wicked in duet with Cynthia Eric as Elphaba where they sing about how much they loathe each other. Ariana also appears with one of her more conventional pop songs with 'Bye' taken as an album track from Eternal Sunshine. Another track rising off the folk-pop commercial-core trend came from American one hit wonder Mark Ambor - certainly the type of thing we could do with having less of in the chart and it indeed got my negative vote. the Weeknd did more of his 80s synthpop throwback thing for the lead single for current #1 album Hurry Up Tomorrow which many of us were getting a bit tired of by then and indeed Abel eventually decided to not include the song on the album, although still enough of you enjoyed it to make this top 20. Meanwhile as a precursor to Sabrina Carpenter being absolutely huge she got 'Feather' to take off at the start of the year, becoming her then-biggest hit though instantly surpassed just months later.

Securing the honour of having the best rap song in the contest we have British-born US rapper 21 Savage, taken as the album launch focus track for American Dream 'Redrum' stood out for the genre for its retro Brazilian sample and making reference to the film 'The Shining'. Quite impressed this made the top 20 here really. Meanwhile David Guetta decided to get his hands on another classic sample and make it worse this time taking 'Dragostea din tei' and adding OneRepublic. Though clearly a lot of us still enjoyed it the song also placed at 14th in the Hate Chart. Next up we have one of the most fleeting top 20 hits of the year although with 'The Code' being a Eurovision winner not by Loreen an 18-37-X run is about as well as can be expected. Nemo became Switzerland's third winner and first since Céline Dion won in 1988 and got much praise from Buzzjack for their impressive stage performance and unique genre fusion of DnB/opera. One of the year's best dance hits (though sadly not the top-performing of the genre in this rundown) places at #12 becoming the first for The Blessed Madonna as a primary artist and also giving Clementine Douglas her second as a guest vocalist. Just missing out on a chance to have an honorary top 10 hit (or does it? see later on...) we have José Feliciano with a Christmas classic 'Felix Navidad' a song released in 1970 however only gaining popularity in the UK in recent times where it has steadily climbed the Xmas chart rankings year-on-year.

#07. Tate McRae - It's Ok I'm Ok

UK chart run: {14}-19-26-28-28-37-35-34-36-28-46-73-69-41R(3)-50-55-51-37-57->19

#06. Linkin Park - Heavy Is the Crown

UK chart run: 66-{18}-38-44-53-59-49-51-21-60->10

Points: 153

Starting off the honorary top 10 hits we have Zara Larsson whose late 2023 hit 'On My Love' belatedly entered the top 20 post-Christmas. The hit was assisted by David Guetta with a production that wasn't too dissimilar to what he was making over a decade ago but clearly the general public were here for a bit of that. A fresher-sounding dance hit up next coming from Fred Again who went unexpectedly into DnB with 'LeaveMeAlone' which heavily sampled and manipulated vocals from rapper Baby Keem. The song formed part of his 'USB' project originally put out in 2022 before further expanded last year. SZA left fans waiting a while for the deluxe version of 'SOS' though did put out 'Saturn' as a single almost a year in advance, naturally it was a much bigger US hit but did fairly well here. Tate McRae continues to be a big popstar with the lead to her next album 'It's Ok I'm Ok' becoming a reasonably sized top 20 hit and its two follow-ups reaching the top 10. One of the year's biggest comeback successes came from Linkin Park who returned with a new vocalist for their first album release since Chester Bennington's passing. The second single release 'Heavy Is the Crown' couldn't quite follow their lead into the top 10 however a top 20 showing is still great for a rock song. Alas, some haters do keep it out of the top five.

#05. Benson Boone - Slow It Down

UK chart run: 42-27-23-26-30-28-23-16-19-17-17-18-15-17-15-15-18-{14}-16-17-18-20-25-19-20-22-22-54-54-53-58-70-60-62-69-72R(7)-75R(2)->37

Points: 155

At #5 we have Benson Boone who had some minor success in prior years however got properly big in 2024 with one of the year's biggest hits in 'Beautiful Things' whilst also managing a big follow-up hit in 'Slow It Down', with 17 weeks in the top 20 it had the most longevity of all songs in this rundown so perhaps the true unluckiest top 10 miss here. It did have quite a few more fans than I expected though clearly there is occasionally a big audience here for male pop acts.

#04. Coldplay feat. Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna & Tini - We Pray

UK chart run: 44-31-26-31-27-32-{20}-24-39-47->10

Points: 195

Next up, the belated second appearance for Coldplay here placing 30 spots above their bigger chart hit. 'We Pray' however was easily the more preferred song with Buzzjack perhaps thanks to its more upbeat production and guest features from all over the globe. It became a much-awaited first chart hit for Little Simz who had some critical acclaim with her last album whilst it was the sole hit of the year from Burna Boy. The album release gave it just enough of a boost to put it in the top 20 as it had struggled a bit being overshadowed by the previous single beforehand.

#03. The Last Dinner Party - Nothing Matters

UK chart run: 71-71-41-22-19-27-27-{16}-19-31-35-47->12

Points: 207

Winning the BBC Sound of 2024 poll assisted British indie band The Last Dinner Party to a hit single and #1 album proving there can still be a good use for it. 'Nothing Matters' originally put out in 2023 was given a re-release following the increased publicity which was one of the few indie hits of the year. With it being inspired by classic rock and art-pop naturally Buzzjack very much got behind it however it is eventually as expected a battle of the most talked about popstars of the year for the #1 spot...

#01. Charli XCX - 360

UK chart run: 41-51-59-41-27-28-31-32-31-29-18-12-{11}-17-22-27-69-20R(6)-38-43-45->21

Points: 323

Placing in 2nd we have Chappell Roan who went from cult forum fave to megastar within the space of a few months. Following two top 10 hits we had the re-release of 'Pink Pony Club'... which thanks to a Grammys performance is now set to be her third so she'll be leaving the podium of this contest by Friday. It was originally released in 2020 however she got dropped from her label after the song's underperformance at the time.

However it is congratulations to Charli XCX who is very deservingly the clear winner here. '360' was put out as the 2nd single release from 'Brat', eventually reaching the top 20 after the album's release. The song's production handled by A.G.Cook and Cirkut felt very fresh in the modern pop climate and Charli perfectly suits it with her attitude and catchy hooks. The song certainly assisted with the album to come being her biggest one yet.

Pleased that Charli triumphed, not just because '360' is a great song but also 'Pink Pony Club's non-top 10 status will soon be rescinded :kink:

'Noid' placing outside the top 20 here was the worst result but expected x

Thanks for running this Dan!!

Thanks for running this. Pretty good taste on display overall... I'd like to have seen Heavy Is The Crown make the top 5 but I quite like all the songs in the top 5 too. The one shocker is seeing David Guetta's massacre of O-Zone so high, shame on you Buzzjack!
I'm pleased Whatever almost managed top 20. It gets so much undeserved hate in this place. :drama:

Like a lot of things on Buzzjack :w00t:
