A shame to see Tonight Tonight fall out before the final, but glad a few others love it a lot too

Tonight Tonight has stuck with me ever since I first heard it the week it entered at 7 on the chart show. Absolutely epic song, glad it got this far but for me it definitely deserved to make the final

'Runaway Train' is a great song even if it's not my favourite Soul Asylum song (that would be the wonderful 'Misery').

'I Wish It Would Rain Down' is quite easily my favourite Phil Collins song - I'm a sucker for a power ballad and this one is up there with the best!

“I Wish It Would Rain Down” is indeed masterful: the way the painful emotions gradually swell through it. His 2nd best after “In The Air Tonight” probably. I should have given it more - because he released a lot that was meh you forget how great Phil could be when he got it right.

I voted for all that last bunch apart from Madge actually.

Disappointed to see Soul Asylum drop out so soon. I feel it's a very underrated song from the early '90s.

Would have been good to see Smashing Pumpkins go through too but I do feel they have much better tracks in their catalogue, (even if they aren't eligible here0

Different versions of Start Me Up had been recorded as early as 1975 before the group were finally happy with this one from 1981. It turned out to be their final 10 ten hit.

Actually it entered at #8 and climbed to #7 (it was becoming quite rare for singles to climb in their second week, especially for rock / alternative acts, so this was rather a surprise, albeit it was a fairly quiet week for 1996).

'You're All I Have' was the encore when I saw Snow Patrol live in 2009 and has always been one of my favourites of theirs - as my wildcard it did well to reach the top 40 (perhaps I should have honoured my maximum score from the first round with 25 points in this round, but that would only have taken it a place higher).

This was stuck on 0 points long after all the other songs in the semi-final had votes and it wasn't until the 21st vote that it got off the mark so finishing in 36th place is quite the comeback. It uses part of a traditional Moroccan children's song 'A Ram Sam Sam' and was one of two top 40 hits for the Talking Heads side project.

This was the only top 40 hit for the singer from Reigate. It has spent a total of 48 weeks in the top 100 from 2007 to 2014.

Big losses from my votes with both of those since I commented! Tom Tom Club only had three Top 75 hits - haven't heard their cover of 'Under The Boardwalk', but the other two ('Wordy Rappinghood' and 'Genius Of Love' - the latter sampled in Mariah Carey's 'Fantasy') are both brilliant.

Today I learnt Crispin Hunt was one of the co-writers of 'Dream Catch Me', presumably he who was singer in 90s indie band Longpigs - by extension, today I also learnt Richard Hawley was the band's guitarist!

Wordy Rappinghood is a wonderfully quirky song (Genius of Love is also great), and the Chicks on Speed cover decades later was great too, wish I could've given it more but it is a fairly recent discovery.
Oh no, 2 of my absolute favourites are out, Start Me Up and Wordy Rappinghood. Great to see them get so far though!

Never heard 'Wordy Rappinghood' before but just given it a spin - it is indeed very quirky and fun!

EDIT: Just played 'Genius Of Love' too and that's not bad either. I had no idea that 'Fantasy' sampled anything!

Released just four months ago, this remix of a track from the 'Brat' album is the most recent number 7 to reach either semi-final.

Hmmm I'm expecting my faves to be eliminated in the #33 to #26 region.

EDIT: I posted this before to know my 25 pointer Sympathy Is A Knife is at #33. :(

I just hope Jade is a finalist.
