Wow - my 1st ever song contest win. Thanks very much for all the votes - especially Wardy, Jade and Lewis for the 12s. Apologies if it was an obvious entry for some - I know it is from one of the mo

Ooooh, thank you Lewis, 5th is amazing for Annie after such a slow start, I thought she was destined for bottom five, so I'll take three points away from the top three and my second Bop Idol top five

What can I say, I have my pop moments x This was a Buzzjack discovery for me and has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure that has somehow stuck with me over the years, it's just so wonderfully bonkers. I was sure it wasn't there when I checked the BJSC Songs thread but I obviously wasn't looking hard enough so sorry about that, it was fourteen years ago and before I and most others here were taking part, so no harm done x

Uhsting as M83 aka the best, most definitely visually present band in the world is actually quite a surprise, maybe cos I just assume you're always the super obscure entry 😅 Was never in doubt for my 12, one of my favourite songs ever, but there was some other great discoveries here, including pretty much all of that current top 6 so good stuff!

A big 12 points going to the Scissor Sisters sends them rocketing up to 7th place!

Thanks Cody and Addy for the points! The adjacent PJ Harvey album to this single is one of my favourites of this century wub

Wonderful pick, Addy!

PJ Harvey is one of those artists I really need to do a deep dive into at some point as I've pretty much enjoyed everything I know from her.

Back home now, yay for a) still being here for a good half of the results and b) my song being revealed already magic

I thought I might raise a few eyebrows with my song choice this time around - just had to share this curiosity with you all when I remembered it existed while brainstorming how to find an entry for this x 'My Teenage Dream Ended' is a somewhat infamous album for its unique journey of critical reappraisal, an attempt to make a generic pop album that was so inept that it looped back around to being appreciated as genuinely interesting outsider art (and ageing well as it ended up accidentally sounding ahead of its time with hyperpop intentionally embracing similar aesthetics). I knew of the album for a while but my main exposure to it was from a channel binge of a YouTube series called 'Worst Album Ever Made' (would recommend, it's not as negative as the title implies... most of the time x), honestly a lot of the album does still sound pretty rough to my ears but I thought this track really struck a chord x

I see I've slid down a bit now but iconic to have briefly been in the top 3 *.* thanks Jim for the medal position and uhsting, Julian, Wardy and Chez for the other points so far x

Top end of the results are looking good so far, I don't think I'm familiar with the Jurgen Vries version of 'Take My Hand' so it was all new to me and a great discovery, also a very good Madonna pick from Jim + wow I would never have called Addy sending PJ Harvey but that was brilliant (if really pushing the definition of 'pop' haha). I'd also have never predicted Chez sending Same Difference... a choice was made there kink x

Thank you for the 10 wub

Also I just want to share that it was really something I came up with after the deadline was closed, and I didn't have much time to dig and explore deeper...I was just happy Mango allowed me to participate!!!

Roba sent Orianthi - Addicted To Love

Another artist I hadn't previously heard of, Orianthi is an Australian rocker and this track is taken from the re-issue of her debut album, Believe II, and was co-written with RedOne. This was a great discovery for me and I've got her on my list to check out more of.

Roba's voting:

+12 Madonna - Amazing

+10 Same Difference feat. Alcazar - Karma Karma

+08 Scissor Sisters - It Can't Come Quickly Enough

+07 Ashley Tisdale - Overrated

+06 M83 - Outro

+05 Lisa Roxanne - Ex-Boyfriend

+04 PJ Harvey - 66 Promises

+03 Annie - Me Plus One

+02 Dido - Take My Hand

+01 Mis-Teeq - Just For You

Commiserations

Siobhan Donaghy - Don't Take Me Back

f(x) - Rude Love

1 (66) Dido - Take My Hand (Julian_)

2 (52) PJ Harvey - 66 Promises (Addy!)

2 (52) Scissor Sisters - It Can't Come Quickly Enough

9 (41) Saint Etienne - Milk Bottle Symphony

13 (34) Siobhan Donaghy - Don't Take Me Back

15 (33) Goldfrapp - Beautiful (Scene)

15 (33) Orianthi - Addicted To Love (Roba)

17 (20) Lisa Roxanne - Ex-Boyfriend (awardinary)

18 (17) Joe McElderry - If You Love Me

19 (14) Alexander Rybak - Kiss And Tell (CowTzy)

So Roba's votes have produced a three-way tie for the number two spot, with the Scissors advancing there for the first time o

I only knew Orianthi from her one Hot 100 hit 'According To You' (never quite charted here unless you count the top 200), I remember quite liking that and this song is fairly similar and likewise also pretty good. Didn't know she was Australian though!

I sent Joe McElderry - If You Love Me

And here we have my very own entry! I opted for a B-side rather than an album track, and while 'Ambitions' is a pretty rubbish song, this is one of those rare cases where the B-side is a hundred times better - at least in my humble opinion.

I don't remember buying the single so I can't really remember how I first came across this song, but it's an absolute banger and I've always adored it! (just a shame the rest of you aren't agreeing 😪)

My voting:

12 Scissor Sisters - It Can't Come Quickly Enough

10 Annie - Me Plus One

08 Dido - Take My Hand

07 Orianthi - Addicted To Love

06 Same Difference feat. Alcazar - Karma Karma

05 Madonna - Amazing

04 Goldfrapp - Beautiful

03 Lisa Roxanne - Ex-Boyfriend

02 Alexander Rybak - Kiss And Tell

01 Saint Etienne - Milk Bottle Symphony

2 (64) Scissor Sisters - It Can't Come Quickly Enough

3 (53) Same Difference feat. Alcazar - Karma Karma (Chez Wombat)

4 (52) PJ Harvey - 66 Promises (Addy!)

4 (52) The Radio Dept. - Every Time

6 (51) Madonna - Amazing (jimwatts)

6 (51) M83 - Outro (uhsting)

8 (44) Annie - Me Plus One (gooddelta)

8 (44) Ashley Tisdale - Overrated

10 (42) Saint Etienne - Milk Bottle Symphony

11 (41) Mis-Teeq - Just For You

12 (40) f(x) - Rude Love (Cody)

12 (40) Orianthi - Addicted To Love (Roba)

14 (37) Farrah Abraham - On My Own (Brer)

14 (37) Goldfrapp - Beautiful (Scene)

16 (34) Siobhan Donaghy - Don't Take Me Back

17 (23) Lisa Roxanne - Ex-Boyfriend (awardinary)

18 (17) Joe McElderry - If You Love Me (Mango)

19 (16) Alexander Rybak - Kiss And Tell (CowTzy)

My votes keep the Scissors safe at #2, while Same Difference are also now back in the top 3!

Well done Tafty for getting me spot on lol. Now for you to have sent Ashley no doubt 😂

Thanks for all the points so far despite being where I expected to be position wise haha.

Thanks for the host points Mango!

I'm thinking Lewis sent Scissor Sisters, Jade sent The Radio Dept. and Dandy sent Saint Etienne...
