OMG, Jack said "Diet Pepsi" instead of "Diest P"!

  • Can a record company request for their own artist's song to be sent back to ACR? 'Beautiful Things' costing Benson a new Top 20 hit twice.

Biography

In a scene from Apple Music’s Songwriter documentary about Ed Sheeran, the singer-songwriter straggles out into a garden in Malibu at dawn. Jet-lagged and carrying a cup of tea, he sits down at his laptop and begins writing a song about the moment right in front of him: the crisp air, the birdsong, the hot tea, the day ahead. Sheeran gets a full verse in, melody and all, and then pauses. “Songs are weird things,” he says. “How so?” an interviewer asks. “They just come and go,” Sheeran says, smiling. “And they never give you any warning.” For Sheeran, songs have come rather reliably since he started writing in his youth. Born in 1991 in Halifax, he started out gigging on the pub circuit before releasing his first studio album, +, in 2011. Sheeran kept up the mathematical theme on subsequent album titles as he became one of the most unstoppable singer-songwriters in music, forging a light, polished blend of folk, pop and hip-hop that feels bittersweet and redemptive, intimate yet universal. Whether on his own songs (“Sing”, “The A Team”, “Shape of You”, “Perfect”) or in collaboration with artists such as Taylor Swift, Chance the Rapper and Beyoncé, Sheeran strikes a chord that feels good-natured and genuine: he’s the hopeless romantic who isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and show you his heart. Perhaps even more important, Sheeran isn’t afraid to take chances. His 2021 smash “Bad Habits” dabbled in modern dance-pop, while in 2023, he performed an Apple Music Live session in London and released two albums: −, a vulnerable album about grief and depression; and Autumn Variations, featuring collaborations with Aaron Dessner of The National. - Apple Music

A career derailing flop for Ed confirmed then, with its first three weeks in the top three. The first song to achieve that from debut in seven months, the first British song in close to two years, and level with Subtract's lead singles second and third charting week on similar sales. Alarm bells truly ringing.

3 weeks top 3 from for Mr sheeran , first time it's happened in 2 years for a British artist what a flop 😜

And the coveted chart number 3 double 🙌🙌 (anyone know if that's actually been done before 🤣🤣)

I personally think the CD and 7-inch could possibly at least improve its' chart chances, if it depends on the chart growth or decline.

Doubt it looking at its Spotify numbers

Tbf if they had already been released would of been a guaranteed number 2 at least

Biography

Chappell Roan specializes in jubilant, femme-positive pop that combines a strong romantic streak with a hunger for grand experiences. Kayleigh Rose Amstutz (born in 1998 in Willard, MO) began posting cover-song videos online in her teens, and after releasing her first EP, School Nights, in 2017, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her pop-star dreams. In early 2020 she connected with producer Dan Nigro, and that April she released “Pink Pony Club,” a torchy ballad about thriving at “a special place/where boys and girls can all be queens every single day.” Roan released a smattering of singles, including the writhing “My Kink Is Karma” and the yearning “Casual,” before putting out her first full-length, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in September 2023. Roan’s unbridled, lusty pop songs became an online phenomenon—or, as she might put it, a “femininomenon”—and she hit the arena circuit when she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the latter’s GUTS tour in early 2024. - Apple Music

6 weeks at number 2 for PPC is that close to GLB , tbh I'm most suprised by it's hold considering how long it had already been in the chart

Ok someone needs to kick a'war'dinary off #1 for good!

But this is the problem we've come to expect from the peak years of the streaming era - songs grow and grow, then they become so big that they refuse to leave! Sort of a relic of the 2005-ish chart rules!

Lorde

What Was That

170x170bb.jpg

1st single from forthcoming studio album

Released: 24th April 2025

Label: Universal Music New Zealand

Video

Biography

Where previous generations of teenagers frequently had to endure marketing managers’ ideas of what entertainment should look like, millennial teens were blessed with one of pop culture’s greatest young laureates: New Zealand’s Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor (a.k.a. Lorde). After being spotted at a talent show and signing to Universal at age 12, she would experiment with a series of writing partners before meeting Joel Little, a fellow Auckland native and former pop-punk frontman. Together, they wrote “Royals”, a song that not only defined Lorde’s perspective—with its unimpressed, teenage dismissal of material obsessions—but also propelled her skeletal electro-pop debut, 2013’s Pure Heroine, to a Grammy nomination. She captured the late-night trains home, clandestine kisses, and heavy symbolism of one’s first love remembering to buy them their favourite juice—little of which, she seemed to know, lasts. But Lorde’s feel for suburban adolescent disconnect catalysed into precocious power moves—such as curating the soundtrack for the third Hunger Games movie—and an astute lens on the wider world on 2017’s Melodrama. Richer in sound and experience, the album found strength in different kinds of isolation—the temporary plight of the newly heartbroken and the lifelong fate of the writer. However, Lorde would steer that fate in a new direction with 2021’s breezy, Laurel Canyon-hued Solar Power. On the album, she basks in psych-folk, sunshine pop, and tongue-in-cheek euphoria while offering a peek into her reality. “My life is very low-key and very domestic. It's like the life of a hippie housewife,” she told Apple Music. That confession may be a jarring contrast to Lorde’s dark-pop reputation, but it only adds to her mystique. - Apple Music

Benson Boone

Mystical Magical

170x170bb.jpg

2nd single from American Heart

Released: 25th April 2025

Label: Night Street Records / Warner Records

Video

Biography

Benson Boone (born in 2002 in Monroe, WA) bet on himself and hit big in the early 2020s. After leaving Brigham Young University to pursue his music career, the singer-songwriter tried out for American Idol, but he left the competition after making it past the talent show’s auditions. Trading the small screen of TV for the hand-sized screens of social media, he began posting videos online, and Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds took notice, signing Boone to his label Night Street Records. Boone’s early singles were emotion-packed piano ballads—the sweeping debut single “GHOST TOWN,” the swirling 2022 cut “In The Stars”—but plugging in proved to be a winning strategy. His modern power ballad “Beautiful Things,” released in early 2024, was an online sensation before it became a global megahit, reaching the U.S. Top 10 and readying the world for Boone’s debut full-length, Fireworks & Rollerblades, which came out that spring. - Apple Music
