Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else at #19 today perhaps it still has a shot at top 20? (I'll prepare my clown outfit for Friday when it lands at #21 again x)

Not really. Nice to see a new song close to overtaking a 5 year old song

gotta bookmark this for when you get sick of "Love Me Not" and simultaneously realise it's over a year old as well.

I doubt Love Me Not will still be in the chart this time next year and it’s also not 2 years past the 3 year threshold

Yes but it was released , last year that's the point released in 2024

PPC might of been released in 2020 but it's not been in the chart a year 🫣

I just mean that 3 months ago you were inundating these threads with comments in support of the nearly 5 year old single against a 9 month old single

If that's a matter of preference, sure, but if that's the case then we can't be using these arbitrary release dates as a sticking point. I've known "Love Me Not" since July last year, but I understand that for most, they're only just recently hearing it which is fine. Similarly, I think a lot of people are still only just hearing "Pink Pony Club" for the first time this year as well, that's okay too! I just worry that ACR has created a system where an unrealistic degree of turnover is demanded to fulfil the supposed purpose of the rule, turning hero songs into villains in record time.

If everything got bumped down by ACR, there won't be many SCR songs to drop below, and it'll feel like it's not doing its job properly enough.

And one thing I don’t like about ACR is that if a song that’s over 3 years old hits ACR during the Christmas rush, then even they get reset in the new year ie. Another Love, Cruel Summer. I can see why they reset songs if they went to ACR during the Christmas rush but not when it’s a song that’s over 3 years old. That is why I hope PPC hits ACR before the Christmas rush. As for LMN, I only discovered it when I listened to the chart

There are 7 months before the Christmas rush, I don't think it's worth worrying about January resets yet...

It would be interesting to see what the chart would look like if everything more than nine weeks old and not at or close to its peak was on ACR. Alas probably not that much more fresh, and of course the side effect would be permanent ACR songs like “Mr Brightside” being higher.

Others have written about this but I think one effect of the death of the monoculture could be that the general public don’t have the interest in discovering new music that they once did. New songs do penetrate the public consciousness but it takes much longer.

Ordinary down 700 sales on last week so looks like it’ll go ACR in a week but he’s releasing bloodline that week which I expect to get to #1

It certainly sounds catchy from the clip but it's pretty difficult these days for a song to debut at number one so I don't think I can see that happening

Yeah it’s not the norm but if ordinary is acr the other numbers aren’t that high and Alex is huge right now and the song has been majority hyped on TikTok for about a month now so it’ll have a good chance

Other than sabrina twice have there been any other number 1 debuts in the last year (I know taylor was last April)

Sabrina was actually once, please took over in its 2nd week. But I believe Guess and Backbone both debuted at #1.

Edit: also, Eminem's Houdini

Off topic but it is so depressing that their has only British No.1’s in the UK in the past nearly two years. Outside of these two tracks I believe the last active and living UK artist to go #1 was Kenya Grace in September 2023.

oh my gosh the number of time someone can stigmatize a song cos it was released 5 years ago

when in truth it was a low key release by an artist no one knew so in practice it was a new song last year for like 99% of the people including the complainer

Ah yeah she debuted at 3 then climbed didn't she

“Houdini” as well

Still only makes it 4 then 5 if we include Taylor so it is a rare feat theses days

Love how you just swerved their point completely about what you were saying 3 months ago, even when the evidence was provided.
