2013 brings a more diverse list of #1s than we've seen in a while. Yes, we have the usual Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, but we also have Disclosure! John Newman! Avicii! And R. Kelly, oops. Charli XCX gets her first #1 in 2013 (just like the official chart), and the very first Christmas song to top the Multichart happens in 2013. 'One More Sleep' is still the only festive track to achieve this.

Three songs tie with 7 weeks at #1, all in the first half of the year, meaning 'Scream & Shout', 'Mirrors' and 'Get Lucky' were #1 for 21 of those 26 weeks. Britney and Pharrell tie for most weeks at #1 by artist, with 9 weeks apiece.

Glad to see 'Summertime Sadness' had a few weeks at #1, even if it was mostly down to the remix.

151 The Veronicas "You Ruin Me" (1 week)

152 Taylor Swift "Blank Space" (5 weeks)

2014 brings us the fastest #1 turnover to date, with a whopping 21 #1s! Many artists getting their very first chart-topper, including Kylie, Rita Ora, Paloma Faith, Ella Henderson, Iggy Azalea, and The Veronicas. Rita, Ella and Paloma quickly followed up with a second #1, as did Kiesza!

Speaking of Ella Henderson, despite the quick turnover, 'Ghost' manages a 7-week reign to be the longest-reigning #1 of the year. She also claims the most weeks at #1 by an artist, as the 3 weeks for 'Glow' give her a total of 10. Meanwhile, Sia's 'Chandelier' had the most overall longevity , ending up at #1 on the Year-End Multichart.

One of my earliest Multichart memories (I don't think I was a mod yet) was 'Hideaway' reaching #1 before it was officially released. I'm not sure if any other songs managed that feat, but that was the only time I noticed it and I was truly amazed!

164 Little Mix "Love Me Like You" (2 weeks)

165 Adele "Hello" (11 weeks)

A much shorter list this year with only 13 #1s. You'll see Ellie Goulding and Little Mix both had an 8-week #1 followed by a 2-week #1, for a total of 10 weeks each. But they both were later outdone by Adele, whose 'Hello' debuted at #1 (a very rare occurrence!) and stayed for 11 weeks, finally breaking the record of 10 weeks shared by 'Bad Romance' and 'We Found Love'!

182 Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie "Rockabye" (8 weeks)

2016, a year that the official charts were known for being extra slow, but the Multichart #1 list doesn't look so bad! Little Mix pick up another long-runner of 7 weeks for 'Secret Love Song', but surprisingly 'Shout Out To My Ex' falls short of the top spot. Coldplay sneaks in for a week, Fifth Harmony get their first and only #1, and Sia adds two more to her tally. MØ appears on back-to-back #1s, while Justin Bieber's pair is sandwiched between none other than Christine and the Queens! The Weeknd makes his first appearance on the list as well.

The year's longest-running #1 is at the very end, when Clean Bandit's 'Rockabye' reigned for 8 weeks. They add 6 more weeks from 'Tears' for a total of 14, followed by Sean Paul, who adds 5 weeks from his feature on 'Cheap Thrills' for a total of 13 weeks.

194 Rita Ora "Anywhere" (13 weeks)

With this post we enter the (celebrated/dreaded in equal measure) ACR era! Not that the Multichart has ACR of course, but it certainly has affected Buzzjack discussions ever since. You'll remember Ed Sheeran was by far the biggest name of 2017, but he is not to be found on this list, in fact his first/only Multichart #1 is still to come. Instead we stick to our familiar faves, as Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Little Mix and more add to their #1 tallies. Dua Lipa earns her first two #1s, and her rising star is illustrated going from 1-week #1 'Be The One' to 10-week #1 'New Rules'.

We end the year with the most-weeks-at-#1 record being broken yet again (actually, it didn't happen until January). Rita Ora's 'Anywhere' spent 13 weeks at the top spot, a full three months, or quarter of a year, overtaking Adele whose 'Hello' held the record of 11 weeks for 2 years.

205 Silk City & Dua Lipa feat. Diplo & Mark Ronson "Electricity" (1 week)

206 Rita Ora "Let You Love Me" (7 weeks)

207 Ariana Grande "thank u, next" (1 week)

208 Ava Max "Sweet But Psycho" (2 weeks)

209 Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart" (8 weeks)

Dua Lipa follows up her two #1s in 2017 with three more in 2018! 'IDGAF' was the one to finally put Rita Ora’s record-breaking run to a stop, then 'One Kiss' had four weeks and 'Electricity' had one. Rita, by the way, spent seven more weeks at #1 this year with 'Let You Love Me'.
Ariana Grande also had three #1s in 2018, with 10 weeks total between 'no tears left to cry' (the 200th Multichart #1!), 'God is a woman' and 'thank u, next'.
As for George Ezra, we decided 'Paradise' was more worthy of #1 than 'Shotgun', which tbf was faced with tougher competition. Even brand-new Buzzfave Ava Max was lucky to get two weeks at #1 with her debut 'Sweet But Psycho', before Mark and Miley’s 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' stormed its way to the top, where it held on for 8 weeks.

219 Tones and I "Dance Monkey" (3 weeks)

220 Jax Jones & Ella Henderson "This Is Real" (1 week)

221 Dua Lipa "Don’t Start Now" (9 weeks)

It was another female-heavy year of #1s in 2019, with familiar faces like Ariana Grande and Katy Perry, mixing with fresher faces like Mabel, Billie Eilish and Tones And I. Yes, despite how maligned it was around here, 'Dance Monkey' still had enough fans on Buzzjack to be #1 for 3 weeks. And then there's the late Whitney Houston casually getting her first Multichart #1. She and Kygo spent the most weeks at #1 with 10, even more than Ariana Grande and Jax Jones who had multiple chart-toppers. We end the year with another #1 for Dua Lipa, whose 9 weeks for 'Don't Start Now' carry over into 2020.

226 Dua Lipa "Hallucinate" (3 weeks)

227 Kylie Minogue "Say Something" (1 week)

228 Miley Cyrus "Midnight Sky" (8 weeks)

229 Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby "Levitating" (2 weeks)

230 Little Mix "Sweet Melody" (4 weeks)

231 Miley Cyrus feat. Dua Lipa "Prisoner" (5 weeks)

Dua Lipa began the year with six Multichart #1s, and nearly doubles that amount over the course of the year with five more, bringing her total to 11! I’m sure 5 #1s in a year is a record for any artist. In total, Dua was #1 for nearly half the year, 25/52 weeks. Her longest-running #1 was ‘Physical’ at 10 weeks, which was later matched by ‘Rain On Me’ as the joint-longest running #1 of the year.
The biggest non-Dua faves of 2020 were ‘Blinding Lights’, ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Sweet Melody’, which all spent at least a month at the top. And Kylie managed to sneak in for just a week with ‘Say Something’, her first Multi #1 since ‘Into The Blue’ in 2014!

236 Lil Nas X "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" (4 weeks)

237 Years & Years "Starstruck" (4 weeks)

238 Galantis, David Guetta & Little Mix "Heartbreak Anthem" (8 weeks)

239 Ed Sheeran "Bad Habits" (3 weeks)

240 The Weeknd "Take My Breath" (2 weeks)

241 Elton John & Dua Lipa "Cold Heart" (9 weeks)

242 Adele "Easy On Me" (8 weeks)

In this list I see a fair amount of relatively veteran artists finally earning their first Multichart #1 - namely, Jessie Ware, Years & Years, Ed Sheeran, and of course, Elton John! 'Cold Heart' was even the longest-running #1 of the year, with 9 weeks at the top. Lil Nas X also earns his first and only Multi #1 to date, and Olivia Rodrigo unsurprisingly got her first with 'drivers license', although her follow-up singles fell short.

For the first time, no artist appears on the list more than once, although Dua Lipa kind of does, with the #1 run of 'Prisoner' carrying over into 2021.

I thought Ed's only #1 would have to be 'Bad Habits' - he nearly got a second with 'Azizam'. A couple of omissions stand out for 2021 - 'Save Your Tears' was probably too much of a slow burner, but 'good 4 u' is a surprising one!

254 David Guetta & Bebe Rexha "I’m Good (Blue)" (3 weeks)

255 Sam Smith feat. Kim Petras "Unholy" (2 weeks)

256 Taylor Swift "Anti-Hero" (8 weeks)

14 #1s in a year during the streaming era is pretty good! Harry Styles finally gets his very first Multi #1, as does Lizzo, while Beyoncé has her first since 2011, Britney her first since 2013, and Charli her first since 2014. Eurovision and the Buzzjack Song Contest are both represented with 'SPACE MAN' and 'B.O.T.A. (Baddest Of Them All)' respectively.

The longest-running #1 of the year was Taylor Swift with 'Anti-Hero', its 8th week at #1 coinciding with the last chart week of 2022. For the second year in a row, no artist has multiple #1s!

268 Troye Sivan "One Of Your Girls" (1 week)

269 Dua Lipa "Houdini" (10 weeks)

Did you notice how more male artists than usual got to #1 in 2022? Well, that's not the case in 2023, as we retreat back to our female faves. Miley Cyrus has the longest-running #1 with 9 weeks for 'Flowers'. Dua Lipa spends 10 weeks at #1 with 'Houdini' but a few of those were in 2024. And Kylie spends 11 weeks in total at #1 between 'Padam Padam' and 'Tension'. Olivia Rodrigo also sends a pair of her songs to #1.

Congrats to four artists getting their first Multi #1: 070 Shake, Peggy Gou, Tate McRae and Troye Sivan!

275 JADE "Angel Of My Dreams" (7 weeks)

276 Sabrina Carpenter "Taste" (6 weeks)

277 ROSÉ & Bruno Mars "APT." (12 weeks)

2024 is (so far) remembered as having a lot of big hits and a decent amount of turnover in the official charts. But that was not reflected in the Multichart, as this list of #1s is the shortest to date, with only 8 of them! Not one song had a 1 or 2-week stay at the top, only one had a 3-week run and likewise for 4 weeks.

It was Sabrina Carpenter's year as she got three consecutive singles to #1 in pretty quick succession, and spent a total of 19 weeks in the top spot. 'Espresso' technically had the longest run at #1 within the year, with 10 weeks. ROSÉ & Bruno Mars would surpass that with 'APT.' staying for 12 weeks, but only 9 of those weeks occurred in 2024. 9 weeks matches how long Ariana Grande spent at the top with her pair of #1s.

Speaking of Bruno Mars, not only was he the only male artist at #1 the entire year, but he closes nearly a 10-year gap between #1s, with 'Uptown Funk' getting there in early 2015!

278 Lola Young "Messy" (3 weeks)

279 Lady Gaga "Abracadabra" (10 weeks)

280 Miley Cyrus "End Of The World" (5 weeks)

It may be June, but we've only had three new #1s so far this year. Lady Gaga earned her third 10-week #1, with 'Abracadabra' matching the reigns of 'Bad Romance' and 'Rain On Me'. In total Gaga has spent 65 weeks at #1 - that's a year and three months! Let's see who's accumulated the most #1s and the most weeks at #1:

Lady Gaga - 15 #1s, 65 weeks at #1

Dua Lipa - 14 #1s, 77 weeks at #1

Rihanna - 12 #1s, 44 weeks at #1

Katy Perry - 12 #1s, 43 weeks at #1

Little Mix - 11 #1s, 46 weeks at #1

Calvin Harris - 9 #1s, 38 weeks at #1

Ariana Grande - 9 #1s, 37 weeks at #1

Miley Cyrus - 8 #1s, 44 weeks at #1

Girls Aloud - 8 #1s, 30 weeks at #1

Taylor Swift - 7 #1s, 26 weeks at #1

Britney Spears - 7 #1s, 24 weeks at #1

Clean Bandit - 5 #1s, 32 weeks at #1

Rita Ora - 5 #1s, 27 weeks at #1

Beyoncé - 4 #1s, 21 weeks at #1

Adele - 3 #1s, 22 weeks at #1

*a few artists missing from the lower end of this list

And Miley Cyrus has the honor of being #1 on the 1000th Multichart. Thanks to everyone who has followed and commented on this thread, it turned out to be a great celebration!
