The UK Top 40 singles of the 1980s: listening sessions + polls: next session Sunday 19 October

Featured Replies

Adam And The Ants - Antmusic

Spandau Ballet - To Cut A Long Story Short

Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out

I’m going to stick at 3 this week as I don’t love any of the others. Antmusic is by far my favourite this week.

Yes, we're on a few weeks hiatus until 21 Sept when we launch into 1981.

Until then, there's a three-way tie to break for the best song in the last session!

1 Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry (9)

2 ABBA - Super Trouper (9)

3 Spandau Ballet - To Cut A Long Story Short (9)

4 Kate Bush - December Will Be Magic Again (9)

5 Adam And The Ants - Antmusic (8)

Also receiving 8:

Blondie - The Tide Is High

John Lennon - (Just Like) Starting Over

Stray Cats - Runaway Boys

The Clash - The Call Up

The Boomtown Rats - Banana Republic

Gary Numan - This Wreckage

As I'll now be a bit too busy tomorrow, I've decided it best to postpone the first session for 1981 by a week, so we'll resume the series on Sunday 28 September at 16:00.

We still have the small matter of a three-way tie to break from the last 1980 session poll, but I'll give anyone who hasn't already voted 24 hours to do so. If we're still tied at 16:00 tomorrow, I'll run a tiebreaker poll in this thread, with the aim of finding a winner before next Sunday's session!

Oh, I was looking forward to this finally being back this week :( feel like at this point we've skipped more weeks than not since these started...

Anyway, I didn't vote yet so:

ABBA - Super Trouper

Adam And The Ants - Antmusic

The Clash - The Call Up

Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry

Queen - Flash

'The Call Up' was my fave discovery of the week, honourable mentions to Robert Palmer, Kate Bush and The Boomtown Rats. Next faves of the ones I already knew would be Chas & Dave, Kool & The Gang and Daryl Hall & John Oates. Not as good as the previous weeks in general though.

We are definitely back this week yes? x

(I presume bonus songs will need to be split over a couple of weeks to catch up again)

Yes we're definitely back at 16:00 today! We have maybe our most classic-laden session yet too! I'll probably split the bonuses over this week and next.

Thanks for your votes, I think we have a clear winner of Week 7 now! I realised I can't react to my own posts, but it's the song I'd have voted for too.
