It's at #69 in the latest chart, so definitely possible.

Not sure it’s been glamorised, they are just reporting that a record has been broken.

And I don’t think the press are anti-Wham, plenty of media stories when they reached #1 etc., - IF they achieve it the OCC will release a press release for media.

Yeah im not sure reporting a record being broken 73 years after it was set is any more "glamorising" than them reporting the yearly christmas number 1or when a song like Running up that hill hits number 1 due to stranger things

Well when you look at the list of songs with the most weeks at #1 in UK chart history that's exactly it, probably none of them would really be described as "special" or even particularly standout as songs themselves (apart from Bohemian Rhapsody perhaps) but they all appealed enough at the time to the lowest common denominator of music consumers or had massive help from featuring in a box office film in several cases.

So it's actually not at all a surprise to me that this record was broken by a relatively "standard" song as something more unique or experimental would never be able to garner as much sustained support from a wide base.

And I'm saying this as someone who usually does lean more towards less-conventional music nowadays but even I have to admit it's a brilliant track yet still can't put my finger on exactly why. Especially as I dislike a lot of both of their other works!

I played it to my partner two weeks ago. She only very loosely follows modern music and hadn't heard it before and I didn't say what it was until afterwards. She enjoyed the 'jangly indie pop' feel and said it felt like it was from another time.

I think it's just a very instantly warm and nostalgic kind of song, that doesn't really sound like anything in the charts, yet has the feel of a lot of old classics without sounding like any in particular. It's just very accessible, particularly with the addition of Olivia, the biggest star of the past year. The solo version is definitely album track territory but Olivia lifted it so much for me.

It has started going viral again with this press coverage of the record break, and the Lollapalooza performance, it will dodge ACR and probably has a few more weeks in it at No.1 yet. It just seems to keep reviving itself at opportune moments.

I really do feel like it will stand the test of time and be well remembered in 30 years from now so it doesn't bother me that it has broken the record. It's a strong track - not incredible, but I see why it has done so well.

Currently in the running for a 20th week at #1.

LOL and I thought everyone was saying Ariana was basically guaranteed #1 this week...

Question is how far can it stretch the record? Could at least make it take many more years for Wham to eventually Rein it in.

The endless run at #1 would be slightly less aggravating if it weren't for the fact it didn't even start until the song had already spent an absurdly long time in the chart.

I do quite like a good few of Sam Fender's songs so it's really annoying that I can't get behind any of his big hits ('Seventeen Going Under' is still the best of his top 10 hits for me and I always found that thoroughly overrated and got really, really bored of it hanging around in the charts so long - little did I know what was to come with an even less impressive song...)

Interested to see if this starts to take off in the US - it’s been hanging around for a while and reached #64 and been certified gold.

Following on from the performance in the States with Olivia, Sam has stayed in the US doing some promo so could see it at least reach a new peak.

It’s in the Top 100 on both Spotify and iTunes.

If Rein Me In doesn’t repeak in the US following Lollapalooza, then it means it’s not clicking with American audiences. If Drake had got the record in 2016, it would’ve been a lot more aggravating although One Dance was a new song when it was number 1 and not a year old

One single live performance potentially not making a song that’s been out for over a year and sold half a million in the USA already reaching a new peak does not indicate it’s ’not clicking with American audiences’.

A song that’s a year old in the scheme of things isn’t really that old.
