September 4, 2025Sep 4 Imagine the publicity from the 4th single from ‘On Your Radar’ being ‘Move On U (vs JLS)’ would have been solid.
September 23, 2025Sep 23 Why did On Your Radar underperform so much? A measly number 21 peak and still only silver after all these years. Chasing Lights is Platinum and if we count the collective of Wordshaker + Headlines (in my mind Headlines was basically a re-issue of Wordshaker) that should be Platinum too. Notorious did alright and All Fired Up did quite well, and I feel like the album had a lot of potential hits like White Lies, Get Ready, Get Set, and the Travie McCoy collab. The album's sales have been a mystery to me, I think it is one of their strongest ones.

Plus it was also a very busy Q4 in 2011. Pixie Lott also experienced a very similar fate with her second album after releasing it on the back of 'What Do You Take Me For' around the same time. It's a shame they didn't release any more singles as it was a great album and had some stellar choices although the next single was going to be 'The Way You Watch Me' which would've been a disaster so I'm glad they didn't do that.

It was never confirmed, just rumoured. If that's true, that would have been a huge blow to the campaign. Without that, the late November "Q4" release date for On Your Radar was incredibly bold of them, and in the end they got lost in the shuffle. Not helped, of course, by it being released off the back of My Heart Takes Over, which at the time was their worst selling single to date with shortest time spent in the chart. The main album releases that week were Rihanna, One Direction, Westlife and Kate Bush.On Your Radar's first week sales of 18,044 weren't bad by their own standards - but evidently not enough for that time of year. Top 10 that week required a minimum of 34,754 sales. Here's a list of the previous The Saturdays albums and their first week sales, compared to what they'd have needed to sell in On Your Radar's release week to match those positions:22,393 at #11 for Chasing Lights [#11 sold 34,107 in On Your Radar's release week]15,021 at #9 for Wordshaker [#9 sold 41,430 in On Your Radar's release week]22,981 at #3 for Headlines [#3 sold 115,445 in On Your Radar's release week]It was a badly timed release when there was no particular evidence that their sales would suddenly jump up significantly from their previous three. It would have been far safer and more sensible if they'd released the album a week or two after All Fired Up. #10 albums only needed around 12,000 sales in September 2011.As for the album not reaching Gold yet - re: streaming, assuming that All Fired Up and Notorious are its two most streamed songs per week currently (the streams of which are then downgraded to the average of the rest of the album), that leaves My Heart Takes Over & the album tracks to generate the streaming sales... and that won't be much.On Your Radar was on 60,990 sales in October 2013, before the introduction of streaming sales in March 2015. Presumably it didn't sell that much between those dates. This is purely an example because I don't know what its sales would have been in March 2015, but if we were to say its sales were 61,500 by that point... since then, it would have needed to sell about 70 copies a week on average to have made it to 100,000 as of this week. I don't think it'll be managing that. I would be surprised if it's managing to generate 10 copies a week via streaming sales tbh. To sell approaching 40,000 in the last decade would be a very tall order for what is essentially a flop album.Wordshaker was on 85,506 sales in October 2013 and that still isn't Gold/100k, which probably puts into perspective their album sales through streaming. Although that album was unavailable for a few years, it was brought back to download/streaming in August 2018... so in 7 years, it hasn't managed 14,500!Another thing about On Your Radar is that they abandoned the album upon its release, with no further singles - their first album to not have a post-album single. So they didn't even try to turn things around for it. In that sense I think it's kind of fortunate that it even made it to silver certification.

I always love reading what you have to say! While On Your Radar's sales weren't dastardly, surely they must've gotten a boost from being released around the holidays. Perhaps had they released in September, they would've sold less and still missed out on the top ten? I did check the sales though, and the week after All Fired Up's release, the girls would've gotten a number 7 peak with 18,000 units.Considering Wordshaker made it to 85,000 sales after it was taken off in August 2010 (10 months after release), it's crazy that On Your Radar couldn't even pull anything above a silver certification 2 years after its release in October 2013. In a perfect world, My Heart Takes Over would've been performed on X Factor and become the Saturdays' I'll Stand By You, and that would've helped the album well throughout the winter, and then in early 2012 White Lies and Get Ready, Get Set would've followed as singles and done decently as well. Maybe the album could've ended up with a multi-platinum certification and Living For The Weekend's performance could've gone from its meagre 9.5K first week to the top spot with like 30,000.I'm not surprised Wordshaker is not doing too well, as almost of its sales probably go to Finest Selection. Even if they weren't going there, I would've assumed they were going to Headlines! as that album also has Forever Is Over and Ego (the only tracks with any notable streaming activity) on it.
September 25, 2025Sep 25 They definitely were meant to perform on X-Factor. Little Mix visited them for their Week 7 VT which was the same week The Sats were heavily rumoured to have been booked to perform but got nudged due to Rihanna releasing 'We Found Love'. There would have been no reason for Little Mix to randomly go see them and have it filmed unless they were also going to be performing. I don't think it would have made a massive difference but honestly considering the stuff going on at the time with Frankie in a clinic, Una heavily pregnant, Vanessa apparently having alcohol issues and having to stay with Rochelle and Marvin, their low sales and the fact Little Mix were being primed to be the next big UK girl group it's a miracle that just a year after this they were filming for an E! reality show in America and on track for a huge number 1 single in the UK. They could easily have called it a day after On Your Radar flopped.Their career was so bizarre.

October 2, 2025Oct 2 I always remember at the time feeling like My Heart Takes Over could’ve been their q4 ballad moment but it just didn’t happen! I think an X Factor slot might’ve helped slightly (but perhaps not by that much) maybe a top 15 album and the single getting lower top 10! Q4 really was insane back then though with albums sales and we seen a few acts fall victim to the Q4 release and them getting lost in the mix at a time they’d have been top 10 or even top 5 a few weeks earlier. I’ll always have a fondness for The Saturdays in a sense though and I vividly remember their unlucky chart woes and how they fought to finally get that number one single. They did have a great run and I do feel like one day they may be some form of return!

October 3, 2025Oct 3 Last Call is one of my favourites from them in terms of album tracks but i've always felt Here Standing (different album i know 😄) was their best ballad! All this discussions making me want to delve back into their discography as a whole. It's been a while since i've listened to an album by them as a whole.
