Take Me Home Country Roads was played in a restaurant when I was in India and me and the Americans I was travelling had a bit of a fun moment with it, a timeless song x

Swimming Pools (Drank) is one of my favourites from Kendrick, so that's a disappointing early exit. Love on the Brain is a recent discovery from listening to ANTI and I really love the 50s doo-wop sound, I'm pleased it made it this far. No complaints about Believer that low though, that being here is borderline insulting the classics that dropped out at the semis.

Originally titled "Guess Who Batman (F**k You Very Much)", "F**k You" is included on Allen's chart-topping 2009 album It's Not Me It's You. The expletive-laden song targets an antagonist who is racist, homophobic and pro-war: Allen later revealed that the song was written about former US president George W. Bush. Allen performed the song with Olivia Rodrigo during the latter's 2022 Glastonbury set, in protest of the overruling of Roe v. Wade in the US.

I'm maintaining impartiality as host while announcing results but I'll drop my thoughts on each song separately after posting each day's results:

Love On The Brain- much prefer some of Rihanna's other eligible tracks and would've had "Kiss It Better" in the final over this. Not a bad song at all but I definitely see it as the least essential song in the final if that makes sense. Not deserving of last place anyway!

Believer- not a fan of the Dragons but not a big time hater either- they've released some genuinely good songs but I can't say this is one of them. Not upset with its second last place.

Swimming Pools- love Kendrick and this song but wouldn't have chosen it as his best eligible song. Much prefer Money Trees, Alright, King Kunta and M.A.A.D City. Shame it's out so quickly but I saw a low position coming.

Take Me Home, Country Roads- I like "Annie's Song" and "Leaving On A Jet Plane" from Denver but have never liked this, not a fan of most country music. I just think of cowboy memes when I hear this, can't take it seriously.

Lost- Definitely my favourite of Frank's eligible songs so I'm glad it made the final. Thought it would've done a little better but I'm glad it got this far anyway.

F**k You- cannot stand Lily Allen at all, hate her music. I appreciate the lyrics but her voice and the music are awful to me.

“Lost” is beautiful: it would definitely have gone Top 40 but for them clinging to the no resets for a track more than 3 years old rule.

Poor Kendrick but not surprising, I'm glad it reached the final after 'Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe' didn't get much love

I really like 'Lost' as well but don't particularly care for anything else that has dropped out so far. Lana recently ended her concerts with a cover of 'Take Me Home, Country Roads', so maybe hearing that in a live setting could've helped it click, alas left just before it started to escape the mad dash of crowds at the end

'F**k You' was an early BuzzJack Song Contest winner under the aformentioned original title 'Guess Who Batman'!

This track from the 1975's second album was acclaimed by critics and has been compared to the works of Tears For Fears and Fleetwood Mac's Tango In The Night. The lyrics were written by Healy while in a Los Angeles taxi and detail the feeling of jealousy after a breakup.

I'm not the biggest 1975 fan but really like 'Somebody Else' and would probably consider it my favourite song of theirs.

I remember being attracted to its moody synth-pop sound at the time and it's held up well, can see why it's become so big

This Hall & Oates tune is their biggest seller in the UK. It reached number 5 in the US where they were huge names, but it was not one of their 6 UK top 40 hits because it was not released as a UK single during their 80s peak. It almost charted in 2017 after it was used in a McDonald's advert but just fell short of the top 100.

Nice to have my bottom 3 out already (actually my bottom 4, but I don't mind everything from +4 upwards). Hall & Oates had many great songs ('I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)', 'Maneater', 'Out Of Touch', etc.) but I just find this one that's outstreamed them all a tad annoying.

Aww “You Make My Dreams Come True” is a sweet feel good bop.

Also happy to have my bottom 3 out though - Lily, Denver and The 1975. I wish I had birthday buddies who I could relate to more than Lily Allen and David Beckham.

Not fussed about anything that's gone out so far. I'm sure that will all change very soon though.

This blues-inspired track from Adele's 21 was inspired by her friends spreading rumours about her following her break-up. She has described "Rumour Has It" as being the complete opposite of "Someone Like You" which she wrote after "being such a bitch" on this song. It reached number 16 in the US but was not as successful on the charts in the UK where it was released as the album's joint final single along with "Turning Tables".

Can't say that I care much about anything that's gone so far. Adele, Denver and Lily Allen being the only ones I wouldn't object to hearing again.

The biggest-selling song from glam rockers Kiss, this track was inspired partly by the disco music popular at the time. Paul Stanley wrote the song to show his producers, who wanted the band to shift to a more commercial sound, how easy it was to write a hit disco song. Despite the song's top 20 success in America, the band's fanbase disliked the song and believed they were selling out, with some people suggesting that its release contributed to the "Disco Sucks" movement in America. Gene Simmons has called the track his least favourite Kiss song due to his poor performance on backing vocals. The band's later performances of the track stray away from its disco influences. It was used heavily in the 2024 film The Fall Guy alongside a cover by Yungblud recorded for the film.

Somebody Else- not a big fan of the 1975's work and while I do think this song is alright there's just so many other songs in the final that are better in my eyes.

You Make My Dreams- didn't realise Hall & Oates didn't like being called "Hall & Oates"! This is a real feel-good song and never fails to put a smile on my face. I prefer "Private Eyes" and "Out Of Touch" from them but this is still a fun track.

Rumour Has It- didn't actually know this one until compiling the list of platinum non-top 40s. It's a solid song but I don't have too much of a connection to it hence it appearing in my bottom 10.

I Was Made For Lovin' You- one of my dad's favourite songs! Got a lot of good memories associated with this song. Loved The Fall Guy (which didn't deserve to flop btw) and appreciated its use in that film. The song is pretty cheesy but I have a soft spot for it. Shame it's in the bottom 10!

That Kiss song is a banger! Disco rock at its finest!

I have to admit I don't actually mind that particular Kiss track, even though it's always been considered something of a joke song by a band many already considered a joke in the first place.

The title track from their chart-topping 1975 album, this Floyd classic is their biggest seller in the digital age. Sung by David Gilmour, who can be heard drinking and coughing before the opening notes kick in, the song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and is said to be a tribute to former Floyd member Syd Barrett. The song starts with a radio tuning out of the preceding album track "Have A Cigar" (which has not been certified by the BPI) and into "Wish You Were Here": the radio was recorded from Gilmour's car. It charted for the first time after Nick Mason teamed up with Ed Sheeran, Mike Rutherford and Richard Jones to perform it at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony: this version reached number 34 in the same week.
