Nothing massively exciting from this list is appealing to me tbh, but will wait to hear them. It will be the same as every year, the Amazon exclusive will climb higher the closer we get to Christmas, will be high on the Sunday/Monday update and fall as the week goes on

  • David Guetta probably doesn't know he has anything to do with it, if we're honest.

New peak (#94) for 'The Less I Know The Better'!

  • The rest of the band can make up for lost profits.

lostprophets’ Last Train Home has entered the Spotify UK viral chart today.

Not the main chart, but I was wondering if some chart appearance would happen 😬

I saw a tiktok, with a cover of 'Rooftops' as the sound, captioned "When you realise you can finally separate the art from the artist because the artist is dead".

That kinda makes sense* as an semi-justified reason for people going back to listen to it, as Ian will no longer gain anything from them listening to it (and unlike other similar cases, where it was a solo artist that was convicted, people might feel that the other band members deserve to earn money from the music/the music to carry a different legacy associated with them instead - ignoring the fact that Ian was the lyricist and singer/basically the face of the band)...

Unfortunately for the other members of the band, I can't see a significant volume of people listening to their music, or it picking up any notable airplay/media exposure, to be of any benefit to them at all!

* The caption on that tiktok kinda indicates the art hasn't been separated from the artist though: but I think being aware of the reason you've justified that a song can be played again is, objectively, fair...

It will be an Amazon one that goes top 5 anyway.

Didnt 1 of the spotify ones go top 10 too laufy or was it someone else

I loved them and owned two albums by them, when he was convicted I threw both of those albums in the bin and haven't listened to a song of theirs since. Even just hearing his voice would make me feel sick sad

I agree, you cant tar the other members of the group with the same brush. They have lost almost everything because of him already, so I certainly dont have a problem if streaming generates a few quid for them

I feel like it's worth mentioning that you get a similar result even when the offending party in question isn't the face of the band. There's one such example I can think of from a while back from a prominent Australian band who basically imploded in the wake of their guitarist's (with a face I don't recognise) actions. The rest of the band quickly condemned him but also had to break up and their streaming stock just tanked with it. That's a whole group of people who've done nothing wrong bearing all the punishment of association with a wolf in sheep's clothing. Even with no recognised wrongdoings, it's just a difficult thing to get away from.

Spotify have released their Christmas exclusive covers for the year:

Fall Out Boy - It Feels Like Christmas

Jordan Davis - O Come All Ye Faithful

Poppy - Last Christmas

Ravyn Lenae - O Holy Night

Sofia Camara - Christmas Lights

Dire selection

I've found myself torn over the last few years over whether to play any Lostprophets music or not. Pre-conviction I really liked some of their stuff, and I've always been of the view that you can separate the art from the artist, and just because I'm choosing to listen to a particular song doesn't mean that I agree with or condone the actions of the person that wrote/performed it. For example I strongly disagree with J.K. Rowling's views but does that mean that I should never watch a Harry Potter movie again? So I have in the past occasionally played that Gary Glitter Christmas song (which I used to like as a kid) or the odd R. Kelly song. But with this case being notably the most vile of its kind it was difficult to even listen to Ian Watkins' voice. The few times I did play them I always made sure it was never on streaming services, only from my music collection. Whether I'll start playing any of their music on Spotify now I'm still undecided - I'm thinking that there's so much other good music available that maybe there's no need?

A new Joji song has debuted today:

ne 143. Joji - PIXELATED KISSES

liking the distorted sound on first listen but shame it's so short!
