  • Surprised at the muted-reaction here as I think it's by FAR the best thing she has done in a long time. Definitely my favourite song of hers I've heard since 'Harley's In Hawaii'... It's very if 'Neve

SPOTIFY UPDATE —

“WOMAN'S WORLD”

Day 1: 2,859,188

Day 2: 1,513,823 (-47,1%)

“Bandaids”

Day 1: 1,984,062

Day 2: 900,726 (-54,6%)

Pretty disastrous whichever way you dress it up. Woman's World had at least a talking point (how much everyone hated it) which kept curiosity streams coming, this doesn't even have that because it is so bland.

The vocals on this are too strained for me to enjoy it, it's an earache. Good video though!

What's this in aid of? Is it a one-off single or the start of a new era?

I think my biggest problem with this is her diction, but other than that it's definitely a step in the right direction and sounds exactly like what you'd want and expect from Katy. Not the forced, unnatural sidestep of the likes of 143.

I'm not so sure. A throwaway pop album sounds more like what I'd expect from Katy Perry, and an attempt to sound credible as a course correction feels more like a forced unnatural sidestep lol

I’m kind of surprised it even managed to chart in the top 200 on the first day. I’m also surprised people are even counting on her chart success anymore, it’s been almost 10 years since she had a big hit?

I think it's because this is a music & charts forum so naturally it will be discussed?

Well I meant more generally people seeming surprised in any way, and more widely than just this forum. “Katy Perry new single leaves global Spotify after one day :o” but the bigger surprise would be any of her new songs spending a second day on Spotify. 😭

Suppose so, but I don't really think the lyrics are any deeper than songs similar to it on Teenage Dream or Prism. Sure, could accuse her of trying (and failing?) to recapture that magic, but I wouldn't say it's a properly concerted effort to sound like the most credible artist on the planet. Any amount of attempted damage control is going to be difficult for her at this point.

I think it's a nice song, it's giving Prism album track to me, which isn't a bad thing and makes for a pleasant listen but I don't think it's a hit. I do think it's a course correction in terms of her music direction, though, and I think this being her comeback single without 143 happening would have put her in a much better position, even if chart success probably still wouldn't be coming to her.

Chart wise, I didn’t have high expectations for whatever Katy released as her first post-143 moment. Really, she’d been on a downward trend way before that car crash of an era. The moment just before she released Woman’s World felt like the make or break moment to reverse her fortunes and we certainly know the outcome lol. That damage is really hard to come back from. So I agree with @365 that I’m surprised people were looking at her to perform better this time. I think this portion of her career to try and undo 143’s damage will be more of a marathon, not a sprint. It could take several singles to turn the tide with how she’s perceived. I’d never count her out completely but I’m not holding my breath for her to suddenly be smashing it in the charts again.

Do you guys see Katy Perry having an era as big as One of the Boys, Teenage Dream or Prism again?

Lol no. She could have had Teenage Dream levels with Prism and Prism levels with Witness ... had she managed the promo and singles choices MUCH better...

Also is this flopping??? I feel like this is flopping. Only 2 million views on youtoobe :( But I really like it!!

I would've been more surprised if this did have any chart success, as 365 said! It's very evident that any goodwill she had left, she completely squandered with 143 and there's quite literally nothing she can do about that now. Jay put it perfectly.

But, I think this is a great song and across the board, it's been pretty well received from what I've seen. Nobody's screaming from the rooftops about it but she sounds great, it doesn't sound pandering/chasing a hit/chasing a trend etc. And I'm happy to hear something like this from her again!

I don't think anyone expected a big chart hit but to have only one day above 1 million streams and 600k on day 3 is below even our wildest predictions surely?

Given her big online following and the streams she pulls in for her older songs, I'd expect a few more streams than that but maybe I was being optimistic.

Even the iTunes collapse is very shocking to me. But again, maybe I overestimated her fanbase.

I find it slightly ironic those who had a lot to say about her before suddenly seem to be the only ones to have had any sort of expectations for this kink or are we just using that as another excuse to drag her when she's already in the pits of hell as is? Some (a lot?) of her fanbase have clearly been alienated by what happened/the discourse too, so it's really no surprise to see such muted numbers.
