Some of the falls this year are painful, especially 'Doomscroller' and 'exile', I think the latter is my favourite Taylor song nowadays.

However, I approve of the climbs for 'King of the Slugs', 'I Remember Everything' and 'ZITTI E BUONI' - I much prefer their Italian music.

Surprised BOAF and DWAS didn't debut higher. King Of The Slugs has been a fun discovery for me through this year's rate, pleased to see it do well. When We Were Young is probably my favourite Adele song so also approve of that rise.

Another big dip for Taylor Swift - on the final outing for 'Style' it bows out at 60th though it's been served well making the rundown in all of the past 7 years. One can only hope she'll be able to make pop songs as good again. She has two songs left, both climbers. Exiting the top 20 and suffering from the indie curse we have Wolf Alice who've had an erratic run here with 'The Last Man On Earth'. For the first occasion they actually have another song charting ahead. In very sad news the Alan Walker fanbase has likewise shrunk. 'Faded' had been the runner-up for the decade just two years back but with the departure of some of its key voters it now sits at a new low ever since it first made it to the final, down to 55th.

Ava Max having had a boost for MHAMH earlier on sees a similar recovery for her breakthrough and biggest hit 'Sweet But Psycho' which surprisingly has never hit the top half of the countdown yet but now has a bit of momentum. The Weeknd & Daft Punk likewise follow on from IFIC getting a jump to having one for 'Starboy' nearly re-peaking. With one more year to go hopefully it can crack the top 40 to see it off. After a strong start last year Troye Sivan rushes up 18 places, remaining his sole entry here as the Charli collab couldn't quite make it. Speaking of which 'Girl, so confusing' ends up at #53 as her highest entry. Originally an album track written about Lorde who she'd often been compared to, they later decided to work things out and turn the song into a duet for its single release.

For a song that sounds very of its time perhaps surprisingly it is only now when 'Rockabye' reaches a new peak for Clean Bandit, having been bubbling in and out of the top 100 for the past near-decade. Perhaps a boost is also in order for 'Symphony' later on? Meanwhile Sam Fender had a very good year with his album being the fastest selling for a British artist this year, its lead single and title track 'People Watching' has a strong start here just outside the half way mark. His bigger hit remains yet to be seen.

Good to see Rush taking a climb!

Shame Girl, so confusing couldn't quite make it to the top 50.

Amazing to see Steps still in :D

Darn, I guess the Indie bloc were slacking a bit this year, though the likes of Doomscroller and Last Man on Earth ever making it that high in the first place is amazing given their rather niche appeal. Also surprised to see Charli have no top 50 entries but I guess the vote was split too much, girl, so confusing definitely deserved it. I would sub out most of those Taylor Swift songs with those that have already fell out as well.

This has turned into a bloodbath for my faves. Seeing Last Man On Earth sitting beneath Sweet But Psycho is proper cover your eyes stuff 😬😅.

Assuming Don't Delete... and Starburster go out soonish that'll be all my main votes gone.

Whichever indie / alt voters sat it out this year, please come back next year, we need the variety back in the top end of the rate!

Of everything I’m witnessing, the fact Bad Habits is still standing is the real 👀 moment for me. It’s not bad by Ed’s standards but I’d expect it to be well below most of what just fell in 51-60.

Some more TayTay is in order to start off the top 50. Firstly on its final year we have 'Wildest Dreams' which was another late-in-the-day '1989' era single which saw a significant popularity boost ever since the Taylor's Version re-recording was put out. It is followed by her biggest streaming hit to date 'Cruel Summer' which likewise shot up the rankings ever since it had a very belated single treatment that followed its Eras tour boosted vitality. Holding up decently is the second of the Wolf Alice tracks, 'Don't Delete The Kisses' managed to climb into the top 40 last year and isn't hit so hard by key indie voters leaving perhaps as it was the biggest commercial hit of their career so far.

It has been a great year for Adele as she remains on break from music, her most recent album lead 'Easy On Me' climbs into the main countdown for the first time shooting straight into the top half. The song remains the biggest first-week streaming hit ever four years on from its release. Once a contender for Buzzjack's favourite of the decade, Ariana scales back to 45th with 'One Last Time'. This won't be her last time in the countdown though it will be with that particular song, she does has five songs in the top 40. Oh my Lorde, 'Green Light' takes a dive out of the top 40 for the first time in its run, and along with it 'Don't Start Now' seeing a huge drop-off from last year's top 10. Completing a perfect decade run in the top 100 on a near-high, Major Lazer's big EDM anthem 'Lean On' leaves us at 42nd.

The biggest surprise entry of the rundown comes next from Steps, who announced their musical comeback in 2017 with 'Scared of the Dark'. The song had only seen middling support until this year where its fans have come out of the dark to put them in the top 50. Meanwhile it's another surprise entry at this stage just outside the top 40 with Ed Sheeran's long-running #1 hit 'Bad Habits', a song that had a mixed reaction at the time as he'd been overexposed for the best part of a decade by that point but now finds a bit of a fanbase.

Wow, what a showing for Steps out of nowhere! Fantastic song though.

That drop for Don't Start Now, however 💔

Some pretty surprising things going on outside of the indie domain this year too - Don't Start Now from 9 to 43? And Bad Habits.

Amazing to see Steps do so well… I only nommed it on a whim; didn’t expect it to get out of its heat let alone make the top 50 :D

Good to see Bad Habits take a big climb too!
