And because it’s not like it would be depriving a song that hasn’t been there before anyway (unless people get much further behind the Palestine single, which is probably unlikely to get higher at this stage).I have mixed feelings. Would be happy for Kylie and happy for it not to be Wham! again. But still feel a little bit unsure about the Amazon exclusive thing in general and wish I liked the song more, which really isn’t great, especially if you compare it to the hits from “Tension”.
Monday at 11:262 days I think number 1 we are all excited for Kylie and as fans we know what this’ll mean to her. Not only her, but the outpouring she got when Padam became a hit from fellow female performers and those that work in the entertainment industry shows how much she defies the odds but also has given such a boost for other “older” females that it gives them a chance too. For too long, age and sexism have played a downfall in the careers of female entertainers. Even for actors, male actors can still have luxurious careers into their retirement years, female actors get sidelined the older they get, but in recent years that tide has turned too. As much as it’s amazing that this could be a record breaking week for Kylie - in ways it shouldn’t be. Many more female singers should be scoring hits but the industry and the publics focus on the young has sidelined so many out which just isnt fair. Kylie’s been battling against that and winning which opens doors for everyone else.Secondly, whichever way you look at it, the Christmas #1 has diminished in value throughout the 21st century for various reasons. The charts in general, I long stopped posting in here because of the way the charts have been. If they become exciting again navigating the streaming world, isn’t that a good thing?
Monday at 11:262 days It really does feel like a step down from Tension, and no I'm not anti kylie I just think there are stronger christmas songs she could of pushed from Fully wrapped

I was happy for Wham! to get it in 2023 though, less so last year as when something becomes inevitable it becomes boring.Food Aid was so bad though, and hasn't ever been mentioned again after that week it had at the top. The Ed and Elton one was at least somewhat funny for the whole spectacle of them doing that, but Food Aid was downright bad and one single too many. I was definitely team anyone else and groaning the whole week.1 minute ago, Julian_ said:I have mixed feelings. Padam Padam organically reaching the top ten still feels like more of a moment to me really as it slogged its way up there through the pack and became an unlikely streaming hit not forced upon people by a smart speaker. If Kylie can manage 15k pure sales (looking back Sam Ryder did 11k two years ago so it feels achievable with her fanbase) then it will at least be better than a completely unpopular song being fully boosted there. Not sure if Tom Grennan's non-Alexa sales were ever released last year to compare. I expect if XMAS wasn't an Amazon exclusive though, this song could have managed top ten at least, so it is at least somewhat worthy of being a hit in its own right.
Monday at 11:362 days Na It could of gone top 40 maybe but I don't see it going top 10 if wasn't for being an amazon exclusive, which would still be impressive though
Monday at 11:422 days Kylie Xmas extended mix Extended Link Check out XMAS (Extended Mix) [Amazon Music Original] by Kylie Minogue on Amazon Musichttps://music.amazon.co.uk/albums/B0G6MKRFTF?trackAsin=B0G6MKNFFG&do=play&ts=1765795331&ref=dm_sh_sMsS23bAoZBVL70A4WOj2Bd4l
Monday at 11:442 days How much did Tension sell (downloads+physicals) when it debuted at #19? I guess that'd be the most recent proper example of her fanbase activity. Edited Monday at 11:462 days by Sour Candy

No idea about downloads unfortunately!Maybe today's update will give us a breakdown?
Monday at 11:572 days Tension the single had 2,326 downloads on debut week. So less than 10k streaming units that week.
Monday at 11:592 days So about 8k-ish pure sales for Tension? With concerted multi - downloading campaign surely she could do at least double that this week?
Monday at 12:002 days I guess with Tension the fanbase weren't exactly firing on all cylinders like they will be with a Christmas No.1 possibly in sight. The prize wasn't as big when Padam had already been a top 10 weeks earlier.A 69p download of a mix you don't have is a more enticing prospect to get behind too than e.g. her digital deluxe album last week for £4.99 that added... four songs from her previous edition of the Christmas album. Even I couldn't justify that one.

Monday at 13:432 days BBC News have just published an article about Kylie leading the Xmas #1 race, so that will help too! Edited Monday at 13:442 days by Mangø
