Oops, I'm a little late, but I'm arranging a list of songs and I do intend to do my usual EOY countdown! My goal is just to start this before everyone else has finished theirs lol

Will last year's winner Teddy Swims make a return appearance? Who will perform better between him, Morgan Wallen, Alex Warren, Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi? I can't wait to find out!

Actually, I haven't even decided my #1 yet, or even how many songs are going to feature.

[insert hype here]

Previous EOY #1s:
2013 - Lorde 'Royals'
2014 - Paramore 'Ain't It Fun'
2015 - Walk The Moon 'Shut Up And Dance'
2016 - Ariana Grande 'Into You'
2017 - Lorde 'Green Light'
2018 - Taylor Swift 'Delicate'
2019 - Sam Smith 'How Do You Sleep?'
2020 - The Weeknd 'Heartless'
2021 - Olivia Rodrigo 'Deja Vu'
2022 - Jackson Dean 'Don't Come Lookin''

2023 - Olivia Rodrigo 'Bad Idea Right?'

2024 - Teddy Swims 'The Door'

2025 - To be revealed!

67. Zach Top "I Never Lie"

No relation to ZZ Top, Zach Top was one of country's breakthrough artists in 2025, although you'd be forgiven for thinking this song came from the 90s country/Alan Jackson era. Despite a deliberately old-fashioned sound, 'I Never Lie' went viral and even streamed relatively well for its genre, becoming Zach's biggest airplay and overall hit to date. This style of country is usually not my cup of tea, but the song got stuck in my head early on and never left. It may be last on this EOY countdown, but it would've felt wrong to leave it out!

66. Lola Young "One Thing"

So far I've been appreciating Lola Young's overall success as an artist more than any particular song of hers. 'Conceited' is still my fave and should've been the follow-up hit after 'Messy'! But eventually I gave 'One Thing' a chance, and throughout its weeks of chart show plays, it grew on me quite a lot, to the point where I like it allllmost as much!

65. Lil Tecca "Dark Thoughts"

As a fan of 'Ransom' back in the day, I was pretty sure Lil Tecca had potential for more of that caliber, or perhaps even better. It just took six years for that to come to fruition. Other songs have tried to emulate Justin Timberlake's 'Rock Your Body' (and other Neptunes productions), some better than others, but 'Dark Thoughts' is truly one of the freshest takes on that style, a real surprise turn for him artistically. Deserved a bit more longevity but still a solid result for his first hit since 2019. Should we pencil him in to go viral again in 2031?

64. Tate McRae "Revolving Door"

I remember writing EOY commentary a year ago and thinking the rest of Tate's era would be early-2000s-pop inspired just like 'It's Ok I'm Ok'. That didn't pan out but the end result was an era that was more sonically diverse than I hoped and every bit as brilliant. On paper 'Revolving Door' is perfectly up my street, but for some reason I was stuck on 'Sports Car' and never gave this one my full attention. But, I've got all four of her singles on this EOY and one of them had to be at the bottom. Will any of the others be high enough to make up for it?

Previous EOY history: "You Broke Me First" (#42, 2020), "She's All I Wanna Be" (#24, 2022), "Greedy" (#40, 2023), "Exes" (#26, 2024), "It's Ok I'm Ok" (#53, 2024)

63. Lewis Capaldi "Survive"

I must not pay close attention, because I thought Lewis had retired completely from music, and didn't realize he was coming back until it happened. 'Survive' is just what he needed, a big statement song that encapsulates the before, during, and after of his hiatus and grand return. Well-played on his part, and I hope the hiatus got him what he needed in terms of his health.

Previous EOY history: "Bruises" (#58, 2019), "Forget Me" (#54, 2022)

62. Sonny Fodera & Clementine Douglas "Tell Me"

I've still liked everything I've heard from Sonny and Clementine, whether they're collaborating with each other or with others. It seems 'Tell Me' didn't stand out as much as the others, a bit samey but that's almost not even a criticism in this case. Either way it's another beautiful vocal from Clementine, and Sonny's track fits perfectly.

Previous EOY history for Sonny: "Asking" (#47, 2023), "Somedays" (#12, 2024)

Previous EOY history for Clementine: "Asking" (#47, 2023), "Happier" (#58, 2024)

61. Ella Langley "Weren't For The Wind"

If you haven't heard 'You Look Like You Love Me', that was the song that first went viral for Ella and got her name out there to the masses. 'Weren't For The Wind' simply kept the momentum going, but personally I like it even more. To put it simply, Ella portrays herself as a drifter who doesn't stick around for long, as if the wind keeps carrying her from place to place. This theme is pretty common in country music but it's typically done by male artists, so it was brilliant to hear it from a woman's perspective instead. Plus, as someone who craves good melodies, the chorus is especially wonderful! wub

60. Almost Monday "Can't Slow Down"

At the very beginning of 2025 I got back into listening to my local alternative station, and 'Can't Slow Down' was one of its most-played songs at the time. It definitely sounds like Empire Of The Sun, which I'm sure is what got my attention in the first place. It's an earworm, and I'm just now reading that Alisa from The Naked & Famous has background vocals on it! o That passed me by but suddenly I like it even more, haha.

59. Ed Sheeran "Old Phone"

I almost never watch late-night talk shows but just happened to catch Ed teasing this song on Jimmy Fallon before it was ever released. It also had some sort of radio deal on premiere (in the US at least) so it seemed like his team expected it to be an immediate hit (which Ed has had many of, to be fair). While that didn't pan out, the hype did get to me and I quickly became a fan. This was a few weeks after 'Azizam' so it was a quick one-two punch of singles I really liked. I'll save the rest of my thoughts for Ed's next appearance in this EOY…

Previous EOY history: "Don't" (#5, 2014), "Sing" (#30, 2014), "Thinking Out Loud" (#47, 2015), "Shape Of You" (#49, 2017), "Cross Me" (#20, 2019), "I Don't Care" (#37, 2019), "Overpass Graffiti" (#18, 2022 & #32, 2021), "Shivers" (#55, 2021), "Afterglow" (#62, 2021), "Celestial" (#14, 2022), "2step" (#22, 2022), "For My Hand" (#53, 2022), "Eyes Closed" (#38, 2023)

58. Doja Cat "Jealous Type"

This is Doja Cat's first EOY appearance in a while; her last album didn't do much for me and I was under the impression she was leaving the pop genre for good. She has a habit of changing her mind so I should've known she wouldn't stick to that for long. Anyway, 'Jealous Type' is a brilliant return to form, and her VMA performance was stunning! There's been no shortage of 80s soundalikes lately, I know they can't all be smash hits but surely this one was deserving?

Previous EOY history: "Boss Bitch" (#2, 2020), "Say So" (#17, 2020), "You Right" (#47, 2021), "Need To Know" (#53, 2021), "Get Into It (Yuh)" (#8, 2022)

57. Sissal "Hallucination"

'Hallucination' was my personal 12-pointer from Eurovision, honestly it sounded so similar to 'Euphoria' that no other entry had a chance. lol I'm glad it broke Denmark's DNQ streak but it should've finished closer to top four than bottom four, certainly not helped by its running order spot. Easily my favorite of Denmark's entries, I'd argue it's even better than their winner in 2013. Honestly I haven't decided what I'm doing for Eurovision this year but it's weird to think this could be the last Eurovision song in my EOY for a long while, if not ever.

56. Raye "Where Is My Husband!"

With as huge as 'Escapism' was, I was worried that the expectations and pressure would be too high for Raye to repeat that success with another song. When 'Genesis' had a frontloaded first week and swiftly exited the chart, I expected anything else she released would have the same fate. Long story short, she proved me wrong. Oh Raye, why do I ever doubt thee? As for my personal opinion, I wasn't too wowed at first, but watching its chart success, on both sides of the pond, over the past few months has really endeared me to it. It helps that it sounds nothing like 'Escapism' (no reheating of nachos here) and I'm obsessed with how quickly she sings, after four months I'm just now starting to understand what some of the lyrics are lol

Previous EOY history: "Secrets" (#51, 2020), "Escapism." (#33, 2023), "Prada" (#23, 2023)

55. Olivia Dean "So Easy (To Fall In Love)"

Someone jokingly compared 'So Easy (To Fall In Love)' to telephone hold music, and I don't necessarily disagree (I would've said elevator music). But that didn't stop the song from getting stuck in my head, by which time I realized I actually like it. Definitely stands out in the charts and on the radio, and that chorus is particularly good. It only speaks to Olivia's talent as I can't imagine any other artist recording this and making it anywhere near as much of a hit.

54. Role Model "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out"

Here's another old-fashioned-but-surprisingly-good song in an entirely different genre. 'Sally, When The Wine Runs Out' was another highlight from alternative radio last year, a fun performance on SNL in October, and just simply a fun song to hear in the car. Sally is such an old person name but I think that gives the song part of its charm, as if it could've been written decades ago. I actually have an aunt Sally who loves wine, so I reckon that's helped me appreciate it even more

53. Teddy Swims "Northern Lights"

Teddy is the reigning champion from my 2024 EOY, and while his highest placing this year is #53 it's still his fourth consecutive year appearing in my EOY! I loved 'Bad Dreams' so much that I decided to give its parent album a listen, my first time listening to a Teddy Swims album. It's about what you'd expect, you'll either like it or hate it depending on how you feel about Teddy Swims. But one song really grabbed my attention and that was track #7, 'Northern Lights'. It's a proper ballad that's reminiscent of the late-90s ballads I grew up with. Teddy doesn't over-sing on the song the way he does on others, it's more restrained, so even the pineapple-haters might like this one.

Previous EOY history: "Love For A Minute" (#31, 2022), "Face Myself" (#14, 2023), "The Door" (#1, 2024), "Bad Dreams" (#3, 2024)

52. Calvin Harris feat. Clementine Douglas "Blessings"

'Blessings' may not be Calvin's most memorable song ever but it was still a perfectly enjoyable song to soundtrack last summer. He's not quite as consistent these days so I appreciate his good tunes even more now. Like I said, I've also really liked everything I've heard from Clementine so I knew I'd enjoy this one too. This 90s trance style is one of the things Calvin does best, but I'm aware he's been accused of ripping off Chicane, and I don't feel qualified to say whether he did or didn't!

Previous EOY history for Calvin: "Thinking About You" (#50, 2014), "Pray To God" (#39, 2015), "My Way" (#41, 2016), "One Kiss", (#45, 2018), "Giant", (#47, 2019), "Desire", (#44, 2023), "Lovers In A Past Life" (#19, 2024)

Previous EOY history for Clementine: "Asking" (#47, 2023), "Happier" (#58, 2024)

51. Drake "Nokia"
Not to say "I told you so", but…did people really think Drake's career would be over after the Kendrick thing? At best, I would predict he has to earn his hits now, not just send any garbage to the top 10 like he did before. And so far that's what we’re seeing. 'Nokia' broke the Drake embargo, so to speak, and it earned that right by being the best song Drake's released in years. I suppose the lyrics are still questionable, but "I'ma at you, like bless me" might unironically be my favorite Drake lyric of all time. (As an aside, his EOY history really shows how the quality plummeted after 2016!)

Previous EOY history: "One Dance" (#4, 2016), "Work" (#19, 2016), "Too Good" (#23, 2016), "For Free" (#28, 2016), "Wait For U" (#33, 2022)

Hallucination was one of the better Eurovision entries this year, certainly one of the best of the pure-pop ones and made my weekly Top 40 as well. Giving Can't Slow Down a quick listen as I've enjoyed other songs by almost monday but not heard this one, this is very funky as well much like the other I've head from them!

A top 67 cheeseblock

My favourite to appear so far is 'Jealous Type' wub I wish that had been bigger too. I just read your comment in my countdown comparing 'Headphones On' to Janet Jackson and this song gives me a bit of Janet too, specifically 'The Pleasure Principle'! I thought I was getting a bit fatigued with heavily '80s influenced songs but this proved otherwise, what a tune.

Really like "I Never Lie", "One Thing", "Revolving Door", "Survive", "Tell Me", "Weren't For The Wind" (my favourite of the selection so far), "Old Phone", "Jealous Type", "Hallucination", "Where Is My Husband!", "So Easy (To Fall In Love)", "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out" and "Blessings".

I'm glad you're another fan of Sally, When the Wine Runs Out! I was a bit late to it (surprising given I've been a fan of his for a while lol) but it's definitely becoming one of my favourite tracks from him.

Hi Riser

'Revolving door' and 'WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!' are my two favourites so far.

Tate had such an amazing 2025 so I'm excited to see where all the singles land!

I'm not a massive RAYE fan overall but WIMH is undeniable! So glad it became a belated UK #1.

Great chart so far 🙂

50. Tate McRae "Sports Car"

Third time was a charm for this era; Tate's first two singles were front-loaded and probably made less impact than expected, but she didn't give up and neither did we. But why exactly did 'Sports Car' break through in a bigger way than the other singles? Was it random luck, or was it such an obvious hit that it was intentionally being saved for that purpose? Sounds pretty obvious to me, especially if it reminds you of 'Buttons' by The Pussycat Dolls. And it's not every day you hear an entirely whispered chorus!

Previous EOY history: "You Broke Me First" (#42, 2020), "She's All I Wanna Be" (#24, 2022), "Greedy" (#40, 2023), "Exes" (#26, 2024), "It's Ok I'm Ok" (#53, 2024)

49. Kehlani "Folded"

Lately there has been a bit of an R&B void in the chart world, especially female R&B. As if the door was open for anyone to fill the gap, and who knew Kehlani would be the one to step up? She's been underrated for years and not overly successful as a lead artist. 'Folded' wasn't an instant hit except in New Zealand where it debuted top 10, which was enough to grab my attention. It was brilliant to watch its momentum start to build elsewhere, and now it's a proper hit, something that was long overdue for her! And the song itself couldn't be more deserving either, the production sounds like it came straight outta the mid-2000s – Usher's 'Confessions Part II' comes to mind. Kehlani's vocals are as divine as ever, and I could just listen to that guitar/piano/strings backing track on a loop for hours wub

Previous EOY history: "Nights Like This" (#22, 2019)

48. Tame Impala "Dracula"

Speaking of artists getting their long-overdue chart flowers! Tame Impala may have been reduced to a Kevin Parker solo project, but the music quality has not been compromised. As a band they were the kings of slow-burners, with plenty of gold and platinum songs to their name but with actual chart stats nearly non-existent. In 2025 the stars aligned, and enough people streamed a Tame Impala song in the same week for it to make the top 40. (To be fair, I'm a guilty fan, pretty sure this is my first time charting Tame Impala even though I like all their previous output!) Also, with the song being called 'Dracula' and charting on Halloween, I'm not sure if the timing actually helped but it certainly didn't hurt! Maybe we can credit The Wiggles for belated goodwill from their cover of 'Elephant'? I wouldn't rule it out!

47. Lola Young "Messy"

'Messy' followed the trajectory of 'Stick Season' and 'Escapism' in the years before it, building momentum in December, primed to be the first new #1 of the year once the Christmas songs clear out. It was a joy to rally behind this song, and this case even better to have some rare guitar music at #1. Its US success was impressive too, not a song you'd typically expect to chart as high as #14 across the pond…let alone #1 on pop airplay! That said, if you know me at all, the lyrics are way too explicit for my poor innocent ears, so it's the clean version every time for me lol

46. Alex Warren "Eternity"

I reckon I'm not the only one with 'Eternity' in their EOY, but one of a select few for sure. For some reason I find Alex's voice a lot more pleasant than others with deep voices; for example if this was David Kushner's song I doubt I'd like it as much. It's unfortunate to read that Alex lost both of his parents at a young age and that this song is about that experience. It has been skipped as a radio single in the US, in favor of 'Bloodline', but at least that means I won't get sick of hearing it.

45. Sam Fender "People Watching"

'Seventeen Going Under' was a #1 in my chart but I otherwise wouldn't have considered myself a Sam Fender fan, having not cared much for the rest of his output. That has started to change over the course of his current album. Lead single and title track 'People Watching' is quite similar sonically to SGU, which made it an easy hit for me – I made up my mind as soon as I heard the sax! I'm just now reading on Wikipedia that one of the producers is from The War On Drugs, which totally makes sense now. Since then I've enjoyed some of the follow-up singles even more than this, so maybe it's time to revisit Sam's back catalog?

Previous EOY history: "Seventeen Going Under" (#35, 2021)

44. Addison Rae "Fame Is A Gun"

I'll quickly shout out 'Headphones On' as an honorable mention; the 90s trip-hop is totally up my street, but for some reason it lacked replay value for me. There's nothing throwback about 'Fame Is A Gun', it's much faster-paced, you could say it's as frantic as fame itself. The production is particularly unique with elements I don't think I've heard before. It's almost absurd that someone so early into their career can have such an authentically introspective and self-aware song about life under the spotlight, but it's a sign of Addison's talent, her craving of fame, and her drive to be an artist, not just a singer or throwaway pop star. It's clear now that 'Diet Pepsi' was no fluke, now can she keep the quality going?

Previous EOY history: "Diet Pepsi" (#48, 2024)

43. Tate McRae "Tit For Tat"

Like her or not, give Tate some credit for working hard last year with the amount of music released in a 12-month span. Oddly I ended up liking 'Tit For Tat' more than the singles from the original album. It has an unconventional structure and almost feels like a freestyle, stream-of-consciousness sort of song, and after reading how quickly it was written and recorded, maybe it really was to an extent. I only very recently found out the song had anything to do with The Kid Laroi, and honestly I can't say knowing the context has made me like it any more or less!

Previous EOY history: "You Broke Me First" (#42, 2020), "She's All I Wanna Be" (#24, 2022), "Greedy" (#40, 2023), "Exes" (#26, 2024), "It's Ok I'm Ok" (#53, 2024)

42. Post Malone feat. Luke Combs "Guy For That"

'Guy For That' appeared in my 2024 EOY several places lower, slightly hindered by me getting into the song at the very end of the year. It really peaked in my affections in January and I certainly listened to it more in 2025 than 2024, so it seemed justified to include it again. Naturally it would be quite a bit higher if it wasn't split between two years. Either way, it's my favorite from Post Malone since he went country, and honestly one of my faves from him overall!

Previous EOY history for Post Malone: "Rockstar" (#59, 2017), "Psycho" (#7, 2018), "Better Now" (#23, 2018), "Jackie Chan" (#24, 2018), "Circles" (#17, 2019), "Goodbyes" (#18, 2019), "One Right Now" (#13, 2022), "I Had Some Help" (#30, 2024), "Guy For That" (#59, 2024)

Previous EOY history for Luke: "Even Though I'm Leaving" (#8, 2020), "The Kind Of Love We Make" (#2, 2022), "Fast Car" (#2, 2023), "Going, Going, Gone" (#42, 2023), "Guy For That" (#59, 2024)

41. Ed Sheeran "Sapphire"

'Sapphire' was a brilliant summer highlight, and the Asian influence on it was a pleasant surprise. At the very end of summer, I got to ride a jet ski for the first time, and this song happened to be playing on the speaker of the jet ski. Just like some songs are perfect for driving, this one apparently sounds even better when jumping waves across the lake. I'd liked the song all along but having a memory to attach to it makes it much more special to me now wub

40. Saja Boys "Your Idol"

Disclaimer: I haven't watched K-Pop Demon Hunters…but thankfully you can appreciate most of the soundtrack without seeing the movie. 'Your Idol' was the instant standout from the first few songs that charted on the chart show. I instantly loved the dark chant-singing intro, and the lyrics gave me a good sense of what the song's about, even without watching it. So, dare I say I'm team Saja Boys? Unless a Huntr/x song is still to come thinking

39. Taylor Swift "The Fate Of Ophelia"

My Taylor Swift highlights this year were finally watching the Eras Tour, her long-awaited engagement to Travis, and her record-breaking sales week for The Life Of A Showgirl. I sadly can't include the music itself as a highlight, but this song, 'The Fate Of Ophelia', would be a close 4th. That said, I'd still rank the album higher than The Tortured Poets Department. As for the title track, the lyrics are up to her usual standard, and yet another captivating video!

Previous EOY history: "Shake It Off" (#22, 2014), "Wildest Dreams" (#25, 2015), "Delicate" (#1, 2018), "…Ready For It?" (#49, 2018), "You Need To Calm Down" (#32, 2019), "Exile" (#15, 2020), "The Man" (#19, 2020), "Cardigan" (#38, 2020), "All Too Well (Taylor's Version)" (#28, 2021), "Willow" (#43, 2021), "Anti-Hero" (#25, 2022), "Cruel Summer" (#17, 2023), "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" (#8, 2024)

38. Chappell Roan "The Giver"

Does anyone else's EOY have 'The Giver' higher than 'The Subway'? I've seen Sergej's does, too, so not just me. In fact, 'The Subway' won't be here at all, as it was oddly lacking in replay value for me. As everyone knows, a country track is more in line with my tastes! Even with all the artists that have "gone country" lately, this one does not sound trend-chasing to me like some others have. To be fair, I'd probably be a fan even if it was someone else's song. Speaking of which, a second version featuring Shania Twain would've been amaaazing!

Previous EOY history: "Hot To Go!" (#11, 2024), "Pink Pony Club" (#21, 2024), "Good Luck, Babe!" (#49, 2024)

37. BigXThaPlug feat. Bailey Zimmerman "All The Way"

Meanwhile, Texas rapper BigXThaPlug went country not just for one song, but for an entire album. That's what got me to take notice of him (to no one's surprise I'm sure). A collab with Bailey Zimmerman was a great strategic choice to lead the project, as Bailey's fanbase helped give it instant visibility (in the US at least where it debuted at #4). I've liked the occasional song of his but 'All The Way' is the first one I've loved. Country rap can be extremely hit-or-miss but this one truly brought out the best in both artists!

36. Disco Lines & Tinashe "No Broke Boys"

The title 'No Broke Boys' looked familiar when it first began to chart, and sure enough, it was a pre-existing Tinashe song that was remixed. I remember liking the original hook but thinking the rest of the song did not do it justice. Clearly Disco Lines felt the same and brought it to its full potential. It was great to see her name in the charts for the first time in years! It seemed like it got her blessing and she enjoyed the remix too (correct me if I'm wrong though).

Previous EOY history for Tinashe: "All My Friends" (#32, 2016)

35. Alex Warren "Ordinary"

You may or may not have heard of this song at #35. thinking I'm not going to go all Liam Sota and say 'Ordinary' is the best song to ever exist, but with nearly a year's worth of hindsight I do still honestly like it. In some ways, yes it is ordinary and probably not worthy of breaking streaming or longevity records, but as we know those records often go to MOR-type songs. It's a case of releasing the right song at the right time, especially with Alex's other songs already climbing, and before long it took on a life of its own. I get the appeal and it certainly appealed to me too. At this point I do change the station when it comes on for the 1000th time, but on most occasions I do still thoroughly enjoy it without skipping.

34. Doechii "Denial Is A River"

Some people use comedy as an outlet for their trauma, and I think that explains 'Denial Is A River' in a nutshell. I doubt Doechii expected a song written in the style of a conversation with her therapist to become one of her trademark hits, which honestly makes it even better that it happened. I wouldn't call it a novelty, either, even with the obnoxious "breathing exercise" at the end. Honorable mention to 'Nissan Altima' which I didn't discover 'til 2025, and really deserved more of our attention.

33. Sam Fender "Arm's Length"

'Arm's Length' was noteworthy for me for being the first Sam Fender song I liked that a) wasn't 'Seventeen Going Under' and b) didn't sound like 'Seventeen Going Under'. Considering he's on album number three, that's actually quite a milestone for me as a listener. In other words, this was the breakthrough I needed to finally catch up on appreciating Sam's artistry. Which I guess leads to this next song…

Previous EOY history for Sam: "Seventeen Going Under" (#35, 2021)

32. Sam Fender & Olivia Dean "Rein Me In"

At this point, just the mere existence of a successful post-album single is enough to impress me, especially for an artist like Sam who was not a regular on the singles chart until recently. Of course 'Rein Me In' had the benefit of Olivia Dean just as she was on the cusp of going stratospheric. I love the jangly guitar and Olivia adds so much to the song, she and Sam sound great together!

Previous EOY history for Sam: "Seventeen Going Under" (#35, 2021)

31. Rumi & Jinu "Free"

Now my favorite KPop Demon Hunters song! Since I haven't watched the movie, my introduction to most of the songs was through the Billboard Hot 100 recap videos that I watch. Just a short clip of 'Free' was enough to make me listen to the whole thing, and I was not disappointed. It's a shame the three-track rule kept it from ever charting in the UK, but I was happy enough with how it did in the countries where it did chart.

Love all of the songs on here, outside of "Free", which I have not heard, because I did not watch KPop Demon Hunters yet.

30. Myles Smith "Nice To Meet You"

'Stargazing' felt a little generic and over-polished to me, but that was nothing against Myles Smith and I was hoping to find another song I liked. I can't really explain this, because 'Nice To Meet You' is a very similar song, but I found it to be much catchier and less grating. Well done to Myles for quickly shaking off his one-hit-wonder status, even in the US where it's finally made the top 30!

29. Miley Cyrus "End Of The World"

From Myles to Miley! For some reason Miley's latest era came and went with a lot less fanfare than the previous one. I was very briefly obsessed with 'End Of The World' around Easter last year and it's still one of my all-time favorites from Miley. It also has the distinction of being the #1 song on Buzzjack's 1000th Multichart!

Previous EOY history: "Adore You" (#31, 2014), "Feelin' Myself" (#59, 2014), "Malibu" (#40, 2017), "Mother's Daughter" (#2, 2019), "Don't Call Me Angel" (#21, 2019), "Slide Away" (#28, 2019), "Midnight Sky" (#11, 2020), "Jaded" (#29, 2023), "Used To Be Young" (#45, 2023), "Flowers" (#55, 2023)

28. Ed Sheeran "Azizam"

Ed Sheeran making a Persian-inspired song and making it his lead single didn't sound all that promising on the surface. But, out of all the cultures you could possibly choose, Persian is quite an inspired choice; I have no idea if 'Azizam' actually sounds Persian but it sure is catchy. Overall, believe it or not this has been my favorite Ed Sheeran era to date! For the first time I am very interested in seeing him in concert, but unfortunately there's no tour date anywhere near me. Better luck next time, I guess!

27. Gracie Abrams "That's So True"

'That's So True' snuck into my EOY in 2024, but actually peaked in my chart in January, so here it is again. I'm surprised Gracie hasn't followed this up with anything yet, but hopefully the break is serving her well. She should definitely be back in 2026 and I'm looking forward to it!

26. Tate McRae "Just Keep Watching"

I only went to the movie theater once last year, and the movie I saw was F1. I'm not even an F1 fan, but there was nothing else even remotely appealing that weekend. The 2½-hour runtime was a bit rough, but the score and soundtrack both did wonders to hold my attention. The latter ended up being one of my favorite albums of the year! 'Just Keep Watching' was one of many highlights; I love the fast pace and urgency and Tate's confidence throughout. It deserved a better spot in the film but otherwise I can't complain!

Previous EOY history: "You Broke Me First" (#42, 2020), "She's All I Wanna Be" (#24, 2022), "Greedy" (#40, 2023), "Exes" (#26, 2024), "It's Ok I'm Ok" (#53, 2024)

25. Badflower "Detroit"

You might recall Badflower from another song of theirs that won BJSC several years ago. I discovered 'Detroit' on the radio and was delighted to find out it was the same band! The lyrics are about the feeling of imposter syndrome, and the chorus is awesome with plenty of good hooks. Apparently none of those lyrics felt right for the title, so they named the song after the city where they wrote/recorded it. Even though it's a current song, it wouldn't have sounded out of place in the 2000s or early 2010s, so listening to it gives me so much wonderful nostalgia. wub Actually, I wouldn't rule out sending this one to BJSC this year…

24. Morgan Wallen "I Got Better"

You may have anticipated Morgan Wallen would be here, as he's been a regular in my last three EOYs and released an album in 2025. 'I Got Better' was the sixth single from that album (you might know 'What I Want' which was the fifth single). I know everyone has already made up their mind on whether they like him or not, so you'll know whether you'd like this or not without even hearing it. But this was one of my favorites from the album, and I'm glad it did so well even as a post-album single! I'm also glad this one was picked to have a music video, as he only does two or three of those per album.

Previous EOY history: "Chasin' You" (#31, 2020), "Wasted On You" (#11, 2022), "Broadway Girls" (#21, 2022), "One Thing At A Time" (#15, 2023), "Thought You Should Know" (#57, 2023), "Love Somebody" (#23, 2024), "Cowgirls" (#27, 2024)

23. Rossi. & Jazzy "High On Me"

This section of songs wasn't polarizing enough, so here's Buzzjack's other big favorite, Jazzy! (sarah) She's becoming one of my personal favorites, most recently by lending her vocals to this song. This gives me a trifecta of Jazzy songs I adore very much. I've gotta give credit to Rossi, too, he made 'High On Me' a banger in the first place. Even after many chart show plays I never got sick of it!

Previous EOY history for Jazzy: "Giving Me" (#7, 2023), "Somedays" (#12, 2024)

22. Lewis Capaldi "Something In The Heavens"

'Something In The Heavens' was a VERY pleasant surprise from Lewis! I don't mind his usual vocals even when they sound more like shouting, but his singing's much more restrained here, and his falsetto gets me every time. wub My favorite of his has always been 'Bruises', but I might have to change it now. Also wondering if this is higher on my EOY than anyone else's o

Previous EOY history: "Bruises" (#58, 2019), "Forget Me" (#54, 2022)

21. Olivia Dean "Nice To Each Other"

I'm starting to think 2025 was a pretty strong year, because how is 'Nice To Each Other' only #21? I was loving this at the beginning of summer, it stood out so much on the radio, and the video is fantastic too. I assumed this would be a one-off for Olivia and never imagined what else she'd have up her sleeve – some of which has yet to appear here. I'm also glad it's belatedly entered the Hot 100, with a peak of #65 so far!

20. Olivia Dean "Let Alone The One You Love"

This is exceptionally high for a song that was never officially a single. I was first introduced to 'Let Alone The One You Love' when Olivia performed it on Saturday Night Live, and it blew me away. The next time I heard it was on a college radio station, which gave me a chance to pretend it actually was a single, and there was no turning back after that. We are almost not worthy of a voice like hers wub It'd be even higher if I'd discovered it earlier in the year! As a former Adele stan, this song is worthy of comparing to anything on 21 or 25, and now I just want to hear the two of them sing together.

19. Sombr "Undressed"

While I loved 'Undressed' from first listen, it did bother me that it was getting more attention than the superior 'Back To Friends'. But then it became one of the most-played songs on my summer road trip, because it happened to coincide with its airplay peaks in Canada AND the US (and I was in a rental car relying on radio stations from both countries), so that was how it fully won me over. I am just in awe of how quickly and effortlessly Sombr carved out his own musical style, and just smashed it right out of the gate, all at the age of 19. The lyrics are worth some praise as well!

18. Morgan Wallen "Love Somebody"

XGrO9d1l1yzR-VX5jFhILmZx7pAwfwKH0XYsWe88

Another repeat entry! 'Love Somebody' was released in October 2024, was an instant hit for me, reaching #23 in my previous EOY. Then it became my first #1 of the year back in January, so it would feel wrong not to include it again. I love its mix of sounding summery and sad at the same time. It was only just recently I noticed the verses having a similar melody to the chorus of 'Training Season', and I'm sure that familiarity helped too! This would certainly be higher if it wasn't split between two years, but Morgan has one more song to come.

17. Skye Newman "Family Matters"

image.png

Skye's breakthrough single 'Hairdresser' didn't do much for me (I remember thinking "Is she a low-budget Lola Young?"), so 'Family Matters' took me by surprise when I first heard it. I can't relate to the theme or lyrics at all, but the vocals and melody drew me in, and before long I was hooked. In fact, it was my personal chart #1 in July, and even that's from only listening to the heavily-edited clean version. lol I'm not super optimistic about how Skye's music will do long-term, even after winning Sound Of 2026, but either way I'll stand by this song and I rather liked 'FU & UF' too. Also, I'm reliably informed that she's not related to John Newman…

16. Sombr "12 To 12"

'12 To 12' was part three of an impossibly good debut trifecta from then-19-year-old Sombr. He's making me jealous of how untalented and unsuccessful I was at that age. I think most people compared this song to Tame Impala, but for me I was first reminded of Dua Lipa, particularly 'Don't Start Now'. But the biggest highlight will always be the lyric, "We met in a Paris café," unintentionally referencing an iconic Jameela Jamil quote – every time she played 'Prayer In C', she'd introduce it by saying "Lilly Wood is not just one person, they're a duo that met in a Parisian café." You probably had to be there to appreciate it  jameela

15. MK feat. Chrystal "Dior"

image.png

'The Days' fell just short of my EOY; it grew on me quite a bit, although I strongly prefer the original over the Notion remix, which I know is a hot take! Just when it seemed Chrystal would be a one-hit wonder, an unexpected collab appears from her and MK. I'm still not sure what it is about 'Dior', but I was quickly obsessed and couldn't turn the volume up loud enough. It was my monthly #1 for June, just before it hit #1 in the UK which was incredible – one of my favorite #1s of the year!

14. Sienna Spiro "Die On This Hill"

u3Qh1N562IUArorO4JO1Rk8pS_-JTOCJje2i2sZO

'Die On This Hill' was my first introduction to Sienna Spiro as her earlier singles passed me by, but it was well worth the wait. I was taken aback by her vocals and especially the chorus. It felt like an old-fashioned Q4 hit if you remember how many ballads were in the charts in November and December. It was a rare two-month #1 in my chart, the first once since Dua Lipa's 'Houdini' two years prior. Somehow it has even made the top 20 on Billboard with minimal airplay; I still haven't heard it on proper radio yet but hoping I'll get to soon!

13. Sabrina Carpenter "Manchild"

Despite being this high, believe it or not, my first impression of 'Manchild' was less than favorable; it sounded to me like she was trying to copy Chappell Roan rather than be herself. After repeated listens, it grew on me massively, oops! The video certainly helped a lot, I almost have no words to describe the video. I'm slightly concerned for whoever came up with it. lol

Previous EOY history: "Thumbs" (#24, 2017), "Why" (#25, 2017), "Espresso" (#2, 2024), "Feather" (#47, 2024), "Taste" (#55, 2024), "Please Please Please" (#61, 2024)

12. Ravyn Lenae "Love Me Not"

I didn't realize until recently that Ravyn's been at it for over a decade now, with her first Buzzjack Song Contest appearance being in 2015! 'Love Me Not' is the first song of hers I've really liked, simply too catchy to resist. I'm happy for her finally having a breakthrough after all this time! I'll hope she can get a second hit too, maybe in less than 10 years this time.

11. Jessie Murph "Blue Strips"

BOYIAIN'TMAD, BOYIAIN'TMAD, BOYIAIN'TMADATCHU. 2025 was also a breakthrough year for Jessie Murph, who until now was better known for her features, especially in the US with Diplo, Jelly Roll and Koe Wetzel. In the past she has described herself as a genre-less artist, which I've always found interesting and seemingly accurate for her. 'Blue Strips' commands your attention from the word go, full of urgency, attitude and catchiness. It's very repetitive but not in a bad way; my only complaint was that it's way too short, but the replay value was very high. Very curious that it missed the UK chart entirely!

10. Olivia Dean "Man I Need"

Olivia's fifth and final entry is here! Like I said, I didn't expect her to follow up 'Nice To Each Other' with an even bigger hit, and to call 'Man I Need' even bigger is still an understatement. It's wonderfully retro, but fresh at the same time, and I'm proud of the public for championing a song like this so heavily. It's also become a huge hit in the US, which is incredible, although it frustratingly can't get past #2 here! (Also, I doubt anyone here knows the band Lake Street Dive, but Olivia's vocals here totally remind me of their singer Rachael wub)

9. Ariana Grande "Twilight Zone"

Eternal Sunshine was already a brilliant era, and Ariana made it even more so with the deluxe edition in 2025. I'm sensing a movie theme here, first Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, now Twilight Zone, and of course two Wicked films on top of those. In this case, I've never seen the namesake film and know nothing about it, but 'Twilight Zone' the song is perfection, so dreamy and soothing. Ariana has been in a tight race with Dua Lipa for the most #1s on my chart. Dua had tied it up in 2024 with seven each, but this broke the tie becoming Ariana's eighth!

8. Lady Gaga "The Dead Dance"

I've definitely been craving upbeat Gaga after months and months of hearing 'Die With A Smile' all over the radio. While there were plenty of overlooked, single-worthy options on Mayhem, there's nothing wrong with a new single either when it's this good, and 'The Dead Dance' got some extra attention being attached to the Wednesday soundtrack (speaking of things I haven't watched…). I was not expecting disco-pop from Gaga, no surprise that she makes it so effortlessly catchy. And I love that we're still hearing David Bowie's influence in her music, even a full decade since he has passed. heart

7. Morgan Wallen "Just In Case"

Again, I won't try to convince you if you're not a fan. But if you have heard 'Just In Case' and it sounded oddly familiar, how long did it take you to catch that the chorus is similar to Passenger 'Let Her Go'? I only worked it out a few days ago, oops! Despite two #1s and six top-2s on my chart, this is actually Morgan's very first top 10 on my EOY!

6. The Weeknd "Cry For Me"

The Weeknd is one of the most hit-and-miss artists for me these days, and as you can see below, this is the highest he's been in my EOY for five years. 'Cry For Me' was extremely instant for me, with those synths hitting hard in the very first verse, omg! Of course, the public did not reward this masterpiece with the chart sales or the longevity it deserved, which is why we can't have nice things. But if this really is The Weeknd's last album, this makes a pretty outstanding swan song…but I can't help but think he'll be back!

Previous EOY history: "I Feel It Coming" (#2, 2017 and #29, 2016), "Pray For Me" (#14, 2018), "Power Is Power" (#40, 2019), "Heartless" (#1, 2020), "Blinding Lights" (#4, 2020), "In Your Eyes" (#50, 2020), "You Right" (#47, 2021), "Take My Breath" (#48, 2021), "Save Your Tears" (#63, 2021), "One Right Now" (#13, 2022), "Creepin’" (#41, 2023), "Double Fantasy" (#61, 2023), "Dancing In The Flames" (#46, 2024)

5. Lady Gaga "Abracadabra"

With 'Abracadabra' it all started on the night of the Grammys in 2025, when the music video was aired during the commercial break. You don’t need me to tell you that the video is an artistic masterpiece, her videos are still serving incredible choreography after all these years, and I adore the red color theme. The song itself is equally magical, proving that 'Disease' was no fluke, and leading the way to a masterful album. It felt like I was reliving her commercial peak of 2009-2011, even if just for a month or so. I would've loved to see this released years ago when she was at her peak, but I think it's much more rewarding as a 2025 album. Imagine if every artist could do this 15+ years into their career!

4. Blackpink "Jump"

This is about as unexpected as it gets for me. For years I had quietly resented Blackpink for being the "chosen ones" to make it big in America and elsewhere, when I felt that several other K-pop groups were more deserving. I felt the same about BTS, but in fairness to both groups, they were the first to really try to promote themselves globally, can't fault them for that!

Then they released 'Jump', and I took back every bad thing I ever said about them. The drop sounds like it came straight out of the early 2010s, and yet it sounded so refreshing, rather than old or outdated. It took me right back to hearing songs like this on Radio 1 back in the day. It’s no surprise to see Diplo was involved as a producer! Now I will gladly put all the respect on Blackpink's name, and this got me really looking forward to hearing what the rest of this project would sound like (edit: this was actually written before their EP release in case you're confused)!

3. Chappell Roan "Pink Pony Club"

This is finally the last repeat from 2024's EOY, but as we know 'Pink Pony Club' isn’t even from 2024 or 2025. But after this past year, it's going to be a classic, if it isn't one already, and it couldn't be more deserved. I've done very well at not bragging about being one of the original fans (except now sarah thanks BJSC!). Still, even knowing the potential it had, I never could've imagined it being probably one of the biggest songs of the decade once it's all said and done. A big highlight for me last year was watching the Savannah Bananas and seeing tens of thousands of baseball fans (baseball fans!) sing the chorus at the top of their lungs. Also, when it became Chappell's first UK #1, which is still kind of surreal!

Previous EOY history: "Hot To Go!" (#11, 2024), "Pink Pony Club" (#21, 2024), "Good Luck, Babe!" (#49, 2024)

JUMP and Pink Pony Club are two great picks!

What do you think of the Deadline EP now it's out? I like it better than most but nothing comes close to the brilliance of 'JUMP' for me.

I was already a bit sick of 'Pink Pony Club' by the time it really got massive last year but its starting to win me over again now I'm not hearing it as much.

Excited to see your top 2 🙂

Thanks Lewis! I'm with you on the Deadline EP, it's good but honestly not as great as I was expecting. I do like all the tracks and all the production styles, they're just not as amazing as 'Jump'.

Well, now that it's Easter I've decided I should probably get this 2025 stuff wrapped up finally tearsmile So here we go...

2. Sombr "Back To Friends"

On my very first listen of 'Back To Friends', when it was first played on the chart show, I never could've imagined how special this song would become over the rest of the year. It made a very strong first impression on me, I was quickly moved by the incredible chorus and lyrics, certainly amazed that they came from an artist that just reached adulthood. In those first couple months, it always felt like 'Back To Friends' was playing second-fiddle to 'Undressed', which was getting all the radio airplay and more attention overall, for whatever reason. Even though I liked 'Undressed' too, this was frustrating. I don't know what changed, but suddenly 'Back To Friends' was the one charting higher, finally got its push to radio (in the US, at least), and became unquestionably the bigger song. It was so rewarding to watch its chart run week by week and know this very special song was finally getting the flowers it deserved. As for my personal chart, it will be one of those #1 regrets for me, as I let it peak at #2 behind 'Twilight Zone'. That was correct based on how I felt at the time, but doesn't reflect how huge it was in my life for the whole year. But #2 on my EOY does reflect that magic

1. Gigi Perez "At The Beach, In Every Life"

This was a surprise even to me, but I've listened through every song here to make sure it really is my favorite. Like most of us, I discovered Gigi Perez when 'Sailor Song' went viral. I had quite the change of heart with that song, initially finding it horrible but later placing it at #4 on my EOY for 2024. lol Gigi seemed like an obvious one-hit wonder, though I hope she won't be. I gave her next single 'Chemistry' a chance and never went back to it. But then she released her album, and I just happened to hear the title track on an online radio station. Unlike her previous two songs, 'At The Beach, In Every Life' was extremely instant, and quickly became my most-replayed song of the year as I never got tired of it.

From a personal charts standpoint, Gigi has the rare feat of two #1s and no other entries whatsoever. Adele and Nate Smith have achieved this before, but eventually had other songs that charted lower. Also, with me being a mainstream h*e, this is only the second time my EOY #1 is a song that wasn't a hit on any official chart. So by all accounts this is pretty remarkable. From my personal opinion standpoint, I can barely describe how this song makes me feel, it's just soothing in a way I've never felt with any other song. It gives me intense sadness, happiness and comfort at the same time. All of the feels, as one might say. I can't say it's made me cry (yet), but it does take all my other thoughts and distractions away for 3:57. I adore Gigi's vocals, especially the harmonies throughout and the falsettos at the end. And it's been quite a few years since I reacted this strongly to any song. So for those reasons, 'At The Beach, In Every Life' is my undisputed #1 of 2025.

Previous EOY history: "Sailor Song" (#4, 2024)

If you're reading this and followed any part of this countdown, thank you! I'm planning a slight format change next year, a little less commentary but still worth doing a thread. I'll close with a recap!

1. Gigi Perez "At The Beach, In Every Life"

2. Sombr "Back To Friends"

3. Chappell Roan "Pink Pony Club"
