Oh i have so much love for what do i have to do, my love of it has never waned in the 35 years its been available.

My only negative about it is i never really liked the art work for the single and i wish it had gone one place higher and made the top 5 but i think it was never close to number 5 on the week it peaked at number 6 and likewise missing the Aussie top 10 and having that annoying number 11 peak.

In Ireland it peaked at number 7 and surprisingly shocked managed a number 2 peak.

Still remember the world premiere on ITV’s The Chart Show.

Top track loved this era.

An all-time great ❤️

I was too young to remember its release at the time though. I think I only discovered it in 2002 when I became a proper fan and started going back through her catalogue.

Such an anthem - liked it at the time and scuttled off to snap up a vinyl when it was released but love it now, one that’s stood the test of time.

It's always been one of her best from the early years but I've found myself loving it even more this past couple of years. I was very happy to see if on the Tension Tour setlist after years of being overlooked!

I'm finding myself thinking how epic a Shep Pettibone remix could have sounded like if PWL allowed it.

I also wonder how it would have faired as second single, like originally planned. They could easily have released it in the summer and kept the October release for 'Step Back in Time' - why even was there a six month wait between the first and second singles?

I wonder the same, i cant really remember what the general reception to the song was at the time but i would think if it was the second single it would have went Top 5 but might have come at the cost of step back in time missing the top 5 as third single. Both songs are great but i prefer what do i have to do and would have preferred that to have gone top 5.

Also was shocked better received at the time as it matched the same peak in the UK and here in Ireland shocked peaked at 2 while what do i have to do peaked at 7 and i do like shocked but its by far my least fave single of the 4 from the album.

Its a song that belongs on every tour for me she should have replaced kids with this for many of the performances she did.

Just remembered that the Top of the Pops performance never aired due to Kylie wearing a top that opposed nuclear war or something. Shame they weren't able to re-record, perhaps the song could have reached Top 5 with it.

I didnt know about this, thanks for sharing, a TOTP performance back then usually did help in the charts so there probably was a good chance it would have went top 5 (and deservedly so) had it been aired.

I think songs like this and the others from rhythm of love and many of the lets get to it songs show how hard Kylie must have pushed to progress her sound, wasnt it one of the first times that PWL allowed people outside the pwl team to be involved with the music.

I think over the years i have come to understand more why it didnt go top 5 even though i so wanted to, her popularity was in decline and alot of her fanbase couldnt get used to sexy Kylie and still wanted the girl next door Kylie.

But thankfully the song has held up well over the years.
