I think that tasks motivate people much more to explore new songs than a general theme does. This time I just went through a playlist and checked which songs had a single noun in the title, and then chose between those. Also, that element of luck and anticipation, waiting to see which task you’ll get is exciting.

And for the organizer and the other participants, the whole process of coming up with new tasks and ideas is super creative in itself.

Since I’m using a name from Harry Potter, another possible division could be the four Hogwarts houses. 🤣🤣

How about combining some of these thoughts, and everyone is assigned a random year between 1970 and 1999 to send a song from (going further back if there are more than 30 entries), but one person receives a 'joker' (nobody knows who ofc) and they have to send a song from any year between 1940 and 1960.

I love this, although it does seem to me that those given the post 1980 years would have an advantage. Not from me but a lot of people seem to have mild to moderate allergies to anything from before then.

Love this idea!

I also have thought of 'songs from the year you were born' but it wouldn't be quite as anonymous potentially 🤭

Although would have the benefit of excluding all those pesky young people who were born after the year 2000 🤭

Just curious, how is 1991 seen generally, or on here, as a year for music? I think Massive Attack released Blue Lines then which I'll take, and also that 'crazy b*tch' Diamanda Galás released her live album Plague Mass literally on my day of birth but her music is extremely difficult to digest even for me, not that I've delved deep into it. Not so Buzzjack-friendly either but I do find her intriguing.

Oh, f* 😂

I'm reading a book about pop music from Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley, covers an in-depth assessment of music from 1900 to the 1950's, quite illuminating - obviously the poor recording capabilities wouldnt do much for old recordings, but old standards from artists later in the century could be done. The songs are fine! I never realised that people like Jerome Kern, Louis Armstrong, Ragtime and Jazz were essentially influential pop music pioneers of the early decades wiping away European fey operettas, classical, Music Hall and the like and set the scene for later quality acts. Some of the now obscure acts of the time are just aching for a movie bio, tragedy and pioneering much!
