Oh no! I thought this closed today and I haven’t trawled for a proper entry. I know I submitted a placeholder I found on a playlist and can’t even remember what it is now.

Btw it’s not unusual for me to send a random placeholder early - it’s just usually there’s a link in the mod forum to the spreadsheet so I can check what it was but this time there isn’t so I really don’t know what I’ve sent

I think there’s enough time for submissions, since there’s also a gap between two BJSCs, so someone even has up to a month to find a new song in the period between two BJSCs, and even before the new one opens. Most people send their entries in the first two days, from what I’ve noticed, and in just one evening there are almost 40 songs submitted, since I started participating.

I understand everything, that someone might forget or not have time, but when it comes to the actual song submissions, it seems to me like too much time is being set aside just for that. Meanwhile, for example, the voting deadline in semifinals with many songs is short. It feels a bit inverted in terms of logic.

I definitely think we could use one more day for Semi voting, with one day less for confirmations.

I didn't realise it didn't get posted in there oop! Recently the planning of the contests has started over PM threads since the new site has that functionality so it was only posted in there.

The number of days for confirmations / voting is not fixed, it's just whatever works for the host! (The only guideline we give is for it to be about a week for each)

In hindsight I did kind of think I had made the confirmation too long though since confirmations really dried up over the last two days or so...

At the time it seemed reasonable to me to go with about a week for each period...

I think for the next contest only, there should be a shorter confirmation window, and the reason I say that for now is that even though it's only February it seems again we are already behind schedule with the hosting, and that is not in any way the current host's fault (nor even the last one), but if we are to complete one contest a month as is usually expected then the final for that contest should be completed in the same calendar month as the semis and ready to start confirmations for the next contest the month after. As it currently turns out this contest we are about to begin won't end until at least the first week in March by the time results are all over.

So yes, +1 for a one-off shorter confirmation window, with all current participants made fully aware at the end of this contest that that will be the case so they can be ready sooner. Hopefully by end of March will be back on schedule again.

We’re barely a month and a half into the year, my god take a bottle of chill pills.

The contest is on time. The schedule is not so ridged as you seem to have set out in your head.

How about we leave worrying about it to me as I’ve kept the contest on a schedule since BJSC XV and have got pretty good at this by now

I'm actually ready to go now, so I'm bringing the Semi Final thread posting forward by 30 minutes. (so in about 8 minutes from now)
