Monday at 14:003 days "Wake Me Up" is one one of my least favourite GA song - can't stand this rock pop style. "Dumb" is OK in this region -a nice song!
Monday at 17:513 days Author 08 Beyoncé - Crazy In Love (feat. Jay-Z)avg: 7.97👑 Pop Royalty: 11 (jimwatts, Julian_), 10 (DaTilt, Lukuzz, blacksquare, RyanFM, Jade, Nina West, HarryInnanen, Bror, leww, Chez Wombat)❌ Pop Flop: -1 (Dobbo, Doug), 5 (Viper*)I expected the much acclaimed 'Crazy In Love' to be a winning contender in this rate, however, not everyone was crazy about the collab - so it settles for a 7.97 average.Beyoncé initially planned to release debut album Dangerously In Love in late 2002 but it was postponed until the following year. This is because Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland was experiencing unprecedented success with her Nelly collaboration 'Dilemma', so she was the priority, to capitalise on this momentum. Beyoncé therefore had more time to work on her material and it would be worth the wait, as lead single 'Crazy In Love' helped to propel her to a level of superstardom that not many others could rival in the 21st century.Beyoncé co-wrote and produced 'Crazy In Love' alongside Rich Harrison. His credentials also include 'Get Right' by Jennifer Lopez and Amerie's '1 Thing', so he's no stranger to a horn-heavy R&B anthem. 'Crazy In Love' features a prominent sample of 'Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)' by The Chi-Lites, so the group's lead singer Eugene Record also has a writing credit. Beyoncé's now-husband Jay-Z provided the final piece of the puzzle when he improvised his rap verse in about 10 minutes. The two play on their real-life chemistry in the Jake Nava directed music video, which was filmed in LA.'Crazy In Love' was a bonafide smash, providing both Beyoncé as a solo artist and Jay-Z with their first U.K. #1 hit each. They dislodged Evanescence's 'Bring Me To Life' from the top in the process and stayed there for three weeks. Both of these tracks have proved very enduring despite their wildly different genres; 'Crazy In Love' boasts over 1.8 billion Spotify streams, while 'Bring Me To Life' has over 1.9 billion. 'Crazy In Love' was also Beyoncé's first solo #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's maximalist sound was a hit with critics and it continues to place highly on all-time lists. 'Crazy In Love' also won two Grammy Awards: Best R&B song and Best Rap/Sung collaboration. As it stands, Beyoncé is the most decorated artist in Grammy Awards history, with 35 wins.'Crazy In Love' is the first song to depart with more than one 11 score. It was jimwatts and Julian_ who particularly loved this Bey and Jay classic. However, this was also the only song to receive multiple -1 scores, so this one must drive both Dobbo and Doug crazy.
Monday at 17:563 days Glad this didn’t finish up too high in the end, a tad overrated and not one of my fave Beyoncé efforts
Monday at 18:133 days Hmm nope there definitely aren’t 7 songs here better than “Crazy In Love”. There’s a reason that’s known by most of the general public and most of this lot are forgotten to varying extents.“Dumb” is nothing special but rather boppy.
Monday at 21:093 days That song is 1000% past the point of no return for me, makes me roll my eyes every time I hear it.
Monday at 21:543 days 'Wake Me Up' is a big GA fave and quite underrated.'Dumb' is a classic, shame what happened with their career after this.I used to HATE 'Crazy in Love', but I'm a bit more receptive towards it these days.
Monday at 21:593 days That's a lot more 10s than I remembered seeing for 'Crazy In Love', so my fears of it missing the top 10 didn't come to pass. I've said before that songs become overplayed for a reason, and I might agree that in the past it has been a little overrated in some quarters (Buzzjack not so much), but it's still by some distance the best song here for me, as well as Beyoncé's best song (much better than 'Halo' which has more Spotify streams worldwide). How well it fits into this particular compilation is another matter, but it's one of the songs that shifted the boundaries of pop, so it's valid to be considered part of such a genre.
Monday at 22:003 days I do like Crazy In Love but I feel it is extremely overrated. So I’m happy it didn’t finish much higher.
Tuesday at 11:492 days Crazy In Love was my summer ‘03 obsession! The song, the video, Bey’s dancing on the pavement and then with the giant fan - the amount of times my little gay self tried to recreate the video. It’s become so overplayed though I don’t get much enjoyment from it. Phenomenal solo career-launching single (if we forget Work It Out momentarily).
Tuesday at 17:572 days Author 07 JoJo - Leave (Get Out)avg: 8.21👑 Pop Royalty: 11 (Billy.), 10 (Viper*, Paddington James, Henessy Lake, Doug, leww)❌ Pop Flop: 3 (777666jason), 4 (jimwatts)Next it's JoJo's time to leave and she does it in style with the first 8+ average so far - 8.21 to be exact.American singer Joanna Noëlle "JoJo" Levesque grew up around parents who liked to sing and particularly took interest in her mother practicing hymns. JoJo began singing herself when she was just 2 years old and would imitate anything, from nursery rhymes to jazz songs. Her big break arrived when she competed on a show named America's Most Talented Kid in 2003. She did not win but was contacted by record producer Vincent Herbert who asked her to audition for Blackground Records. She signed with them at the age of 12. JoJo infamously found herself embroiled in long-term label troubles but her career was off to a flying start in the mid-to-late 2000s.'Leave (Get Out)' was released as JoJo's debut single in 2004 when she was just 13 years old. This guitar driven pop-meets-R&B song was written and produced by Soulshock & Karlin who had worked with huge names in the past, such as 2Pac and Whitney Houston. Alex Cantrall and Phillip "Whitey" White also have writing credits. The music video was directed by Erik White who is the nephew of fellow music video director Hype Williams. It has thrown me that Erik's directorial credits include the music videos for both seasons of The Glee Project, in amongst lots of big R&B names!'Leave (Get Out)' was the first of three U.K. top 10 hits for JoJo and her highest peaking song to date here, as it reached #2. She was blocked from the top by Nelly's double A-side release of 'My Place' / 'Flap Your Wings'. She also made waves in the States as 'Leave (Get Out)' reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, this was not her highest peak in the U.S., as 'Too Little Too Late' from her sophomore era managed an impressive #3 result over there a few years later.Billy. wanted to treat this song right and awarded it with his top marks of 11. Meanwhile, 777666jason was particularly ready for this to get out, as he gave it a score of 3.
Tuesday at 18:152 days I actually enjoy this far more today than I did at the time. A fun throwback. ❤️ Too Little Too Late is by far my absolute JoJo fave though.
Tuesday at 18:192 days I've grown to like this one more over the years, but I definitely way prefer 'Too Little Too Late'
Tuesday at 20:312 days I guessed the -1s would've prevented Crazy in Love from winning, but 7th is quite insulting on this CD for one of the biggest classics and most influential songs of the 21st Century x (though this does give a further chance for my favourite to win I guess)
Tuesday at 20:382 days I tend to struggle with songs with adult romantic themes sung by children, and “Leave (Get Out)” is no exception. It is well written though.
Tuesday at 20:552 days I only listen to the 2018 re-recordings now so was mainly going off that for Leave Get Out
