May 18May 18 Made by a YouTuber as well which I didnt like his first movie Milk & Serial which is free on Youtube but hoping I do this one. I've not seen it be given a bad review. Edited May 18May 18 by Henessy Lake
May 21May 21 Author I can't stop thinking about this movie. It's fantastic and flips just about every trope imaginable on its head!
May 21May 21 Loved this, the trailer made this look slightly generic, but it was one of the most unsettling films of the year and still managed to get some humour in. The use of space, silence and sudden jumps was amazingly done and very impressive for a first time director to master a trope that's been so overdone. Brilliant performance from Inde Navarette as well that's surely made a name for her. The characters felt very authentic too which made it's toxic masculinity themes all the more resonant.
May 22May 22 As someone who is quite squeamish when it comes to blood, gore, bodily harm etc, would I be looking away or watching through my fingers too much for this to be worth my time? I read the notes regarding the '18' classification on the BBFC website a few days ago and decided that it wouldn't be for me, but the glowing reviews keep on coming so it has me intrigued and I'm getting a bit of FOMO..Trying to think of comparisons, the level of violence/gore in 'Sinners' was pretty fine for me for instance, but that was rated '15' and I find it easier to cope when it's clearly not real (like vampires, or the CGI animal in 'Send Help')
May 22May 22 I didnt find it to be that gory but then I like the Terrifer movies so don't know if I'm the best person to go off.
May 22May 22 Towards the end, it definitely ramps up the blood and gore but before then it's fairly light by it, a lot of the horror though comes from the tension built and the sense of real unease as things linger, as well as a few well timed jump scares, though it's great at weaving in comedy as well so accessible enough for non-horror fans, just be mindful you may be watching some of it through your fingers x
May 22May 22 Author Absolute insanity! Thoroughly deserved. In terms of gore I don’t think it’s as graphic as you’d probably fear the 18 rating would be, but the 18 is a deserved rating.
May 24May 24 Author Increased by about 30% this weekend (domestically)... it looks like that is the biggest percentage increase in the 21st Century!
May 25May 25 Updated figures have it increasing by 39% domestically!Only one other film- Adventures in Babysitting (1987) with a 43% increase is above it now for most second week increases on a non holiday weekend.
May 30May 30 It is increasing again on its third week! Despite Backrooms coming out. The USA love this film.
June 3Jun 3 This was great but also so unsettling! I really think the actors did a great job of it especially Nikki. It was good to see something with a very simple premise be explored rather than getting too convulted. Also echoing the humorous moments were good and genuinely funny rather than being shoe-horned in. Would recommend!
June 3Jun 3 Author Been such a huge hit that it has kind of forced the studio to delay its intended digital release, which was supposed to have been yesterday! That's now 2 major movies from this year that over performed at the box office and forced their studios hands to have an extended exclusive theatrical run (the other being 'Project Hail Mary')... SO happy to see that!So funny to me that this comes about a year after the Netflix CEO said the movie theatre going experience is "outdated" and "dead". LMAOOOOO
June 3Jun 3 Author Some analysts think this will do $30m+ this coming weekend… if it does, that’s a THIRD STRAIGHT WEEKEND of increasing since it debuted 4 weeks ago!
June 4Jun 4 I didn't enjoy this as much the second time around (and brought my rating on Letterboxd down from 4 and a half stars to just 4 stars), not sure if it was just that I'd seen it so recently but it seemed much more repetitive and much less exciting on the second go. 🤔
June 4Jun 4 I gave it a three on letterboxd. Bit overhyped for me but also had visual issues so not all films fault
June 4Jun 4 Author That’s a shame to hear @matto ! But glad you still like it though.I actually found it more rewarding on a rewatch! I started spotting things I didn’t notice on my first time around. I love this film a lot too because it’s a real thinker for me and the more and more I think about it, the more I appreciate and like it!
