Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi & Wouldn't Change A Thing are both losses for me, two great Kylie singles. But Some Kind Of Bliss is the biggest loss of them all so far, I absolutely love it.

All 3 are great in different ways once again showing the diversity in her discography.

As the first half of the countdown completes, I find myself running for cover because I'm sure there's one single here that most will say is dropping out far too early. For me, I've always had a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with 2 Hearts. The lead single from X, I just couldn't ever connect with it beyond sometimes thinking it sounds pleasant enough. When you consider the rest of the material on X too, 2 Hearts is definitely a departure in style and something completely different for a lead single. I remember some live performances from around the time of its release too and just not being wowed in a way that I always had been by anything Kylie put her name to. So apologies everyone, but yeah it's just not my cup of tea. I can, however, appreciate some parts of it and why others may love it so much.

Light Up may be benefiting from some recency bias, but as far as a bit of a throwaway promotional single to go alongside the release of Kylie's Netflix documentary goes it's a bit of a banger. Another collaborative effort with Chris Martin, even Kylie herself has said that the song isn't intended to be a radio-friendly song, but a song that can bring everyone together in an intimate tour setting to live in and enjoy the moment. And to be fair, that's exactly how I can imagine it too. It's got that euphoric feel to it that you'd anticipate along the lines of All the Lovers seeing Kylie live. New York City was released to accompany Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection in 2019 after initially being written for Golden but ultimately not being included. Quite honestly it's a bit camp and basic but it's a lot of fun. Really not something that would have had a place on Golden, I don't think, but at least it found itself a home. It's one of those Kylie singles that I find myself appreciating more when I go back to it having not listened for a while, too.

Speaking of Golden, Sincerely Yours is the song that finds itself just outside the top 50. Another of the three songs recorded while Kylie was in Nashville, this is a love letter to the fans, but also speaks about Kylie taking some time to herself, a break from music and just to hide from the world for a while. One thing that really stood out to me while going back to this creating the countdown and reading reviews from all over is just how hyperbolic Pitchfork can be when reviewing music. They call this lightweight, but really for a Kylie song - and on an album where she really begins to embrace storytelling and layering - Sincerely Yours has so much emotional depth even if it might be lacking in production. Finally, Kylie's sample of Freestyle Orchestra's Keep on Pumpin' It Up, blended with her own song I Guess I Like It Like That, might seem a little high here but honestly it's a total bop. Another one that benefits from hearing excerpts of it in medleys with other songs on tour and then going on to appreciate the full version later. You can tell this is one of those songs that Pete Waterman was really foaming at the mouth over at the time thinking he was onto gold dust when it brought Kylie into different places he never thought she'd be when starting out, and quite right to be honest. It's a fine glimmer of the type of dance collaborations that Kylie can really work well on, however much it doesn't really sound like something quintessentially Kylie.

Some of the last batch are fine but way too high apart from keep on pumping it up which i was always a big fan of and the highlight from let's get to it album.

2 hearts I like but it never should have been a lead single when there was so many songs that would have been better choices.

Sincerely yours I like and light up but they lack ",standing out," and new york city I don't rate at all.

'Sincerely Yours' is a highlight (wish she'd done it on tour), but none of the others are particularly.

It's quite weird, I don't ever think of it as being a single from that era.

Wait was Sincerely Yours a single?

I thought Golden only had 4 singles:

Dancing, Stop Me From Balling, A Lifetime To Repair and Music's To Sad Without You.

**Ignore that. I just went and looked back at my album listen through thread from 2024 and I had it listed as a single I liked. 😄

Chocolate

UK chart peak: #6

From: Body Language

Body Language loses its first single now as we enter the top 50; and this is another one that's likely lower down than others would have it that I'll anticipate crucifixion for. Chocolate is alright. I've never rated it too highly, and while I can appreciate what it does among an album that does change things up from the more typical, commercial sounds of Light Years and Fever, it just doesn't 100% click. I'll refer to the Showgirl tour again here; once Kylie steps off her crescent moon that brought her down onto the stage for the second half of the show, I get slightly lost (thankfully I Believe in You follows to pick things back up again). But hey, at least we didn't end up with a Ludacris feature.

A double whammy for the debut album here as we lose both Turn It Into Love and The Loco-Motion. The former is one of those classic, early Kylie songs that never fails to put me in a good mood when listening. It's just fun, care-free and has that typical 80s sound that can't really go wrong. Hearing it many years down the line performed live too, it sounds even better with her more mature vocals. The Loco-Motion, while still a largely enjoyable single, is probably another one that I'd put in the same category as Kids. I've tired of seeing it performed live so many times on tours, despite the stylistic changes made to refresh it. Unlike Kids though, this one's a bit more inescapable and one that would rarely be considered for permanent retirement. That's not to say I don't like it though, but I think there are definitely some songs in Kylie's discography that have been around the block more times than necessary.

I didn't realise there was such a cluster of Golden singles so close together in the countdown when compiling it (Dancing and Stop Me From Falling are both safe for now, though). A Lifetime to Repair remains one of my highlights from the album and was an absolute joy to see performed live on the Golden tour, too. Kylie atop a pool table sending the crowd into a state of euphoria? Yes please. I'll never tire of the build up to the chorus. Blending country with a smidge of dance-pop really worked for Kylie here. The only thing that baffles me about some of the production changes are the negative effect it had on the chorus (see: the lyric video version below being vastly inferior to the original version included on the album). My introduction to Cowboy Style was watching the KylieFever2002 tour, and since then I've always had a soft spot for it. It's certainly interesting that reviews for this tend to be more favourable considering the underperformance of the album - and overall image - that ultimately led to Kylie and Deconstruction parting ways. Very welcome though. It's bold, it's confident, it's very different for Kylie. The way it was incorporated into the Showgirl Homecoming tour was brilliant too. A brilliant segment that that masterfully refreshed the act that had previously included In Denial and Je ne sais pas pourquoi.

A bit like sincerily yours i do forget a lifetime to repair was a single and agian its a good song but doesnt stand out among her singles, the loco motion and turn it into love im a big fan of both and are very much the essence of Kylies early career and when i listen to them they can bring me right back to that time which essentially was Kylie mania time as she was just so huge.

Cowboy style i enjoy, there are better and worse on the Impossible Princess album but its an enjoyable song, still love the artwork for the single, chocolate is one of the very few highlights from what in general was a disappointing era in body language, a song that went over my head until i went to the showgirl concert and heard it live and have had a soft spot ever since.

Chocolate is such a lush song!

Would have probably been in my top-25.

I didn’t know ‘Sincerely Yours’ was released as a single in AUS! Good song, but a bit of an overkill for not THAT much of a successful era to have 6 singles.

Turn it into Love grew on me after the tour, I think it’s one of my favs from the first two albums which I don’t rate much really in general tbh.

Chocolate is very lush i agree, and its held up well over the years for me but so much of Kylies material has especially stuff from her early early albums.

Coyboy Style is brilliantly bonkers, a real treat in her discography. I don't like Chocolate quite as much as I did at the time, but it's still a great song and it was nice to see it do better than I expected at the time (I was fully expecting it to break her top 10 streak, but I think at that point I underestimated her fanbase power!)

Agree with the comments on Chocolate, it's just so lush.

Turn It Into Love and The Loco-Motion are both nice too.

Cowboy Style is alright, but it's my least favorite of the Impossible Princess singles.

I do forget cowboy style is a single as it was aussie only but I'd be the same it would be my least fave of the 4 singles from IP.

The Impossible Princess singles are the ones that properly introduced me to Kylie, so they’ll always be a bit special for me.

Well its the opposite for me I'm old enough to have been a fan from the very very beginning and got to enjoy navigating through the different sounds and musical developments of Kylie.
