Kylie collaborating with Sia, on paper, sounds like it should be a monumental pop song along the lines of some of Sia's work with David Guetta, or even (in my own humble opinion) Sia's collaboration with Zayn Malik on Dusk Till Dawn. Sadly though, what we end up with is another throwaway, generic lite dance bop. Again, it's not bad by any means, perfectly listenable and does the job but not one I'd go back to through choice. A double whammy of collaborations with DJs follows, last night i dreamt i fell in love with Alok and then 10 Out of 10 with Oliver Heldens. The former, much like My Oh My but with a little more likability and replay factor, falls into that pesky category of unnecessary dance collaborations that are becoming formative of how Kylie approaches collaborations today as if there isn't an audience for anything beyond it. 10 Out of 10, for me, really only makes it as high as #83 in the countdown because I've become used to it and bopped along to it a fair bit given the availability of the song as an emote in the video game Fortnite. Real ones know.It saddens me that Kylie and Dannii have such incredible chemistry together, yet when they come together to collaborate on music it seems to be locked in a box of them only appearing on stage together to share beautiful, heart-warming moments; not actually bring anything groundbreaking to the studio. 100 Degrees is a nice song, and definitely one of the better collaborations (and songs, overall) on Kylie Christmas. It just leaves me wanting so much more from them as a duo, however. Where is the undeniably iconic pop song of the summer that would leave the fanbase shook to their core? After being bullied into working with Jessie Ware (by Jessie's own admission, jokingly), they finally did on the Guest List Edition of DISCO. Kiss of Life is nice and all, but to me it feels more like a Jessie Ware by numbers song rather than a Kylie Minogue song that Jessie's lent herself to. Better than, but not by miles, a lot of the other features on the album and you can feel yourself warming up into the disco groove when it gets going, but not an essential.
June 4Jun 4 I feel like the production on 'Kiss Of Life' is better than most of Disco, least of all because it actually sounds like a frenetic disco song!
June 4Jun 4 I fully agree on your comments about 100 degrees, them working together on a song should have resulted in something far greater.
June 4Jun 4 There are not many Kylie songs I dislike but KOL is definitely one I never need to hear again, horrific collab.Agree with your other placements too - none of those collabs (apart from 100 Degrees) are particularly noteworthy.
June 4Jun 4 Kiss of Life is another example of something that on paper should be great but like 100 degrees never fully lived up to it aolthough i prefer 100 degress way more out of the 2.
June 5Jun 5 Kiss of Life video however is a hoot.Just demonstrates again how hard it is to write a big hit, collabs with Sia, Jessie, Alok etc have produced solid but middling results.

June 5Jun 5 I really like Kiss of Life! Yeah, it's a bit Jessie-by-numbers, but the song is good, and the video I love. Definitely doesn't deserve the low streaming numbers it has. It would have probs been in my top-50.The rest of the batch I don't care frankly!

June 5Jun 5 With '10 Out of 10', I much prefer the extended version of it than the shortened single/album version - that sounds like such a cut and shut job to me, the extended version flows so much better and feels like how it should sound.

Music's Too Sad Without You has had its fans for as long as the Golden era has existed, and it's a beautiful song. Kylie and Jack sound great together. The final single from the Golden era, for me I think it was nice at the time but it's not one I ever find myself going back to unless I'm having a moment to appreciate that era as a whole. Edge of Saturday Night, once again, for me falls into that category of pointless dance collaborations, but it's absolutely one of the strongest. Initially released on The Blessed Madonna's album Godspeed and later included on Tension II, RAYE also had a hand in writing this song; not a far cry from something I could imagine her featuring on too. It's probably one I should give more time of day to, too, because when I listen I find myself getting really into it.The creative process for GBI (German Bold Italic) puts into perspective a lot of how things shaped up for Kylie afterwards since reaching out to TOWAI TEI by fax to work with him. That and Sometime Samurai came about when they worked together in the late nineties, but it wasn't until almost a decade later in 2005 that Sometime Samurai was finally finished and saw the light of day, feeling like a sequel of sorts and having a moment to shine during the KylieX2008 tour. GBI is great, and feels like the kind of interesting collaboration that Kylie is capable of when she's working with the right people. Visually stunning too and very conceptual, but perhaps not something we'd imagine seeing a re-tread of today. As far as solo singles go, here we lose Give Me Just a Little More Time and Better Than Today. The former is catchy and is certainly one of the more memorable songs from Let's Get to It, even if at times vocally it feels a little unnatural of Kylie almost like she's shouting at you in a way that her delicate vocals never would on any other song. I guess it follows on perfectly from Word Is Out though, which feels like a bit of a twin sister in a sense in that they both have similar deliveries before the album settles into a more brooding, captivating and inviting style from Finer Feelings onwards. Fast forward to 2010 and we have Better Than Today, a single that was always going to pale following on from pop perfection Get Outta My Way. Looking back today, as a standalone single Better Than Today could probably get away with being a signature tongue-in-cheek moment for Kylie that delivers dance-pop in a brilliant, fun way but when you consider this song's home is Aphrodite, it automatically becomes one of the weakest songs on the album. That speaks more on the strength of Aphrodite though, this is enjoyable but there are other similar songs that do what this does much better (cough, Put Your Hands Up, cough).
June 6Jun 6 I really disappointed that BTT was chosen as a single at the time - I like the song but it feels forgotten in her discography now (anyone remember the XF performance where she almost fell over? ).GBI is still one of my favourites - it was so different and still sounds great today.
June 6Jun 6 Better than today gets a lot of hate but I love it, it's def a track I feel if it was left as an album track only people would like it more.Music's Too Sad Without You is far far too low. The highlight from Golden for me and its such a shame it never charted as it has decent sales and better sales than most of the other singles from the album.
June 6Jun 6 The only loss so far is Give Me Just A Little More Time, I loved it when hearing it for the first time two and a half years ago.The rest so far are no loss at all.
