Difference is, people still remember Everything I Do I Do It For You 35 years later. I don’t think Rein Me In in 35 years time will be as memorable as Everything I Do I Do It For You is now

I think Rein Me In will still be viewed as way more memorable than the very long running Drake number one from about a decade ago (which I genuinely can't even remember the title of right now, and can't be bothered to look up).

  • They will literally reset anything except for Mr. Brightside

  • The debate about which songs are more remembered over others is an odd one. Comparing 30 year old songs to a 1 year old one feels quite mute - the former has proven its ‘remembered’ the latter can’t

  • Rein Me In - 3 vinyl We’ve gone from 42,000 physicals for last weeks #1 to 3 🤣🤣

You can find it by looking in the current top 40 on Spotify where it still is. Which is quite good going for a song that's allegedly not memorable. x

(I say 'still', in fairness it looks like it was a constant presence in the Spotify top 200 until mid 2018 then largely dropped out before suddenly returning to being a top 100 staple again since March this year, not sure what prompted it to be so heavily revived this year but I can't imagine it was ever that far adrift of the top 200 in the years between).

I was about to say that One Dance is probably becoming forgotten

Shame we didnt get a sales update on Nice to each other (or even mention its climb 😢)

Those budget compilations would be so much better if they didn’t keep using the same songs over and over again. I’ll only buy them if they have songs that I haven’t got

Might not be as memorable but it’s certainly not going to be forgotten is it, it’s the biggest song of the year and unless something else hits big then it will go down in history as the biggest song of 2026.

I remember when people were saying it about Umbrella when it tied Whitney’s IWALY and look how that turned out. 👀

Hasn’t Man I Need overtaken Rein Me In overall this week when you take out ACR? As for Umbrella, it mostly got remembered because we had nothing but rain while it was number 1. Umbrella is memorable but not more memorable than I Will Always Love You. Like Everything I Do, its success was fuelled by a big film it appeared in which coincidentally stars the same actor

I think.this is the first week its actually been ahead overall for months but @Julian_ would be able to answer that better he keeps a track of the non ACR chart

If Man I Need can stay ahead of Rein Me In overall by the end of the year, it could end up being the biggest song of 2026 with Rein Me In in 2nd

It doesn’t matter about taking out ACR, RMI is undisputedly the most successful #1 song on the charts this year and will go down in history as being so unless something suddenly hits big from now until the end of the year.

Whether IWALY or Umbrella is more successfully remembered likely comes down to the audience, and no doubt the same will apply for Everything and Rein. I personally think Bryan and Whitney’s songs are more iconic / well remembered but there are plenty who would disagree with me. Variety is the spice of life - got to get a spice girls reference in there hehe 🤭

because they could never get a long running number 1 😜

They were even managing post album number 1 singles in those days. Spice Girls fans were like the Swifties of the 90s. They’d buy the albums and singles

It does matter though - the only way you could claim 'Rein Me In' is 'undisputed' as the biggest song of the year is by taking the charts with ACR applied at face value. If ACR wasn't a thing it'd be quite clear that 'Man I Need' has been at the very least right on par if not bigger this year. It just happened to be unlucky enough to go to ACR very early in its run and never managed to get reset. 'Man I Need' going down in the chart records as a one week #1 while 'Rein Me In' gets 15+ is quite an indictment of how arbitrary ACR can be.

(Of course Livvy Deez wins either way so I'm sure she wouldn't mind this debate x)

Tru 19 years on and Umbrella is iconic.

On a different level to IWALY but still iconic.

Lol RMI having just 3 vinyl sales, hardly worth criticising (even though I would frown at any act ushering out variants). Actually genuinely surprised its gone back to No.1 It was almost a foregone conclusion in my mind Olivia would drift to No.1 this week but I guess not, might well have a shot at 16 weeks now even if its not consecutive.

Shakira, J Lo and Katy Perry all Top 40 this week? My time machine worked!
