Jester ranks the Number 1s of 2014

Great countdown Jaz, I fell behind a bit but catching up, I think that's a great #1, I have a few I'd put ahead of it, but the best 2013 number ones were the (best of the) euphoric dance ones so it's very high up in those. I do recall thinking like it seemed like such a comeback for Daft Punk out of nowhere and now it's their signature song almost.

Great to see two of the songs I think are my favourites, 'La La La' and 'Thrift Shop' in the top 10, I was on board with the movement of Sam Smith being great on those dance #1s when they were first breaking out (before much more mediocre material later) and this was an excellent follow up to Disclosure's 'Latch' in that regard. And Macklemore just had one of the cleverest big tracks with 'Thrift Shop' in my opinion, never really got into 'Can't Hold Us' but I remembered him fondly with that before the recent drama. As I said earlier, I think 'Wake Me Up' would be my favourite, and there's quite a few differences with my full ranking but that's all good, been very interesting reading your thoughts on all these.

Other comments, did used to dislike 'Royals' and 'I Love It' quite a bit at the time but age has warmed me to them, especially as they're two of the songs most likely to be heard from this list today, do enjoy Lily Allen if only for my love of the Keane original as with you, and agreed that 'Wrecking Ball's verses and launch into the chorus make it a lot better than 'We Can't Stop'

Excellent top 2, that would probably be my own as well! Royals is still one of my favourite songs and it was a real moment seeing that go all the way to number 1, the minimalist sound was very unique and lyrics very pointed ('tigers on a gold leash' in none too veiled a reference) so I'm not surprised it blew up and it's great she's continued to make good music since even without as much mainstream success in comparison, and yes it finished second to last all the way back in the 53rd BJSC, although I'm proud to say I did point it them (all of 3 points) so no following trends for me x (Suffice to say, the best of the year that followed saw quite an improvement in it's position).

Get Lucky is bittersweet to hear now as apart from the Weeknd collaborations, it was the last solo project they ever did (and seemingly will ever do) before their abrupt end, but it was a wonderful way to go out, it's such a brilliant merging of their robot sound and the retro glam-disco kind of sound, it never got old for me either despite how long it hung around, and the parent album was really good too, I especially liked Instant Crush. Quite insane that it stayed as big as it did without an official music video as well.
