Posted September 23Sep 23 La Bola Negra (The Black Ball) is a Spanish film directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known as Los Javis, from a screenplay they co-wrote with Alberto Conejero. The film has already won the GIO Audience Award for Best International Feature at the 73rd Sydney Film Festival and the People's Choice Award at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, which can be predictive of best picture at the Oscars.La Bola Negra tells the story of three men whose lives are intimately connected through desire, pain and inheritance, across three different eras – 1932, 1937 and 2017. Rich with Federico García Lorca's poetry and suffused with desire, grief and hope, it is an intimate love story and a sweeping exploration of memory, inheritance and queer history, honouring those whose lives and loves were too often forced into silence.
