I think their whole USP is their music is being quite challenging / groundbreaking compared to a conventional guitar band. Their style's very distinctive. Not to everyone's taste, for sure. But I'd argue they're just about the most groundbreaking mainstream band of the decade.

Not much competition there. There is nothing in their sound that is particularly new it’s just that we haven’t really heard it in 20 years. Maybe a more candid lyricism than most. Maybe Lonely the Brave is a good comparison there
