Amazon Music Unlimited:

2 Stop The Wedding!

4 Great Expectation

5 Housewife

23 (24) Wham! (peak 14)

24 (23) Mariah (peak 9)

Unlike the other platforms, Mariah had her usual November 1st lead over Wham! by several places. Since then, they have both declined, but in the last update, they swapped places - so Wham! are now ahead on the 3 main audio streaming platforms - but it would be interesting to see today’s Spotify update.

  • A Sunday is as perfect conditions as Christmas songs will get for 1st November. Last year 1st November was a Saturday and a lot of people will have also been doing belated Halloween parties I expect.

Here are the streams of the two leading Christmas songs globally on Spotify on November 1st:

Last Christmas:

Total: 2,109,696

Main version: 1,814,107

Pudding Mix: 149,026

Single Version: 137,603

Instrumental: 5,247

Live: 3,713

All I Want For Christmas Is You:

Total: 1,961,335

Main version: 1,936,740

Magical Christmas version: 19,929

Other versions: 4,666

What stands out is that 99% of AIWFCIY’s streams are included in the Spotify chart, but only 86% of those for ‘Last Christmas’.

This would suggest that in the UK on Sunday, ‘Last Christmas’ probably had around 227,000 streams in the UK - putting it above ‘expectations’, ‘Nicole Kidman’ and ‘Great Expectation’ (and ‘Thriller’) - to be the 6th most streamed song of the day.

I see the Magical Christmas Version with 12.929k on Kworb

So all versions count even if they are not in the top 200?

LC was the only Christmas song with more than 2 million streams on November 1st

Interestingly, 'Last Christmas' (down to #23) isn't George Michael's only mark on the Spotify chart today, as 'Cowboys and Angels' is new at #189! I assume this is a TikTok thing, a YouTube comment mentions an edit related to the film Clayface

Yeah I’ve heard this on a few TikToks now, not a song I’d have expected to be used but it’s one of my favourites so bring on the chart resurgence!

Yes - they all count to the Official Chart. There are some requirements, such as being on the same record label - and I would assume having the same lead artist.

And yes ‘Last Christmas’ was the only Christmas song with more than 2 million streams.

Wham is already ahead of Mariah on Spotify Global and the US this has never been before so early

I’m finding the success of ‘Last Christmas’ this year phenomenal. Even its November 2nd streams were higher than any of the first 8 days in each of the past two years.

It has dropped only 6 places globally on Spotify to climb above Mariah. And even in the US, not only is it now above Mariah, but it has actually climbed - right into the top 10. And this only includes 90% of its total streams (compared with Mariah where 99% of streams are counted).

If it wasn’t for all of the Halloween songs, I would predict that it would make the Official top 100 this week.

I want the number one in the US and Canada for George

That's the only thing missing from the collection

This year it might be the last chance who knows?
