Still, it's all a load of hype with very little substance and I'd only ever use such an album as a drinks coaster.

Has your opinion changed since then? ;)

For me, Chasing Pavements, Cold Shoulder and Make You Feel My Love were the best 3 tracks.
She'll probably struggle once the hype has died down, and then maybe people will realise Duffy is 1000x better. ^_^

 this thread was an interesting read!

I still truly adore this album, it's the Adele album with the most memories for me so I hold it very close to my heart! It's not perfect and there are two or three filler tracks but I love it on the whole.

Also yes, Cold Shoulder is criminally underrated! Funnily enough, Make You Feel My Love was always one of my least favourites on here. Shoutout to Melt My Heart to Stone

It's weird to read back now, but I do recall that she was very overshadowed at the time by others like Duffy and Estelle riding the British soul revival (mainly inspired by Amy Winehouse). I suppose in that sense, waiting a while until it was less saturated was a blessing, amongst other things ofc.!

Well, she massively improved since this album it's fair to say. I don't really have a lot of time for 19 generally tbh.

I still thoroughly despise 'Chasing Pavements'

It took me a while to find the thread to discuss it, I thought I was gonna have to make one

Back in 2008 I do think I preferred Duffy id probably still say Rockferry over 19 but Adeles really become iconic since with future releases.

Chasing Pavements is still    was laughing yesterday when I seen it was Basshunter of all people who denied it from the #1 spot!

(Is there an album thread here for 21 as well I plan on hearing that at some point tomorrow or next week and I cant seen to find the thread for that album besides from a rate)

I read through the 21 thread again recently, funniest comment I saw was someone in the lead up to its release saying they're worried it might flop.

I really want to read it  ive been searching and cannot find it!

Its crazy to think how huge Adele would become though. 19 did well enough in 2008 #1 and she won the BRIT and managed some GRAMMYs too! I think X Factor 2010 definetley helped 21s build up and iirc Make You Feel My Love peaked because of X Factor didnt it back when that was top show.

Then everything fell into place  Its not mentioned in this thread but how did 19 sell in 2008? It actually sold more in 2011 didnt it off the back of 21 but I imagine it mustve sold decently in 2008 as well as it did go to #1 and it didnt drop off the charts that fast.

I remember Adele being so pushed at the start of 2008 that I was quickly fed up of her. I really preferred Duffy and I still feel the same today. Never listened to 19 as I was never interested but maybe I should include it as one of my reviews in the 2000s forum?
This is the worst thing i've heard all year.

All the songs sound the same, and tbh she has a $h!t voice.

Oh dear. :(

Oh Jonny!

This was an interesting read!

Though I have to admit 19 didn’t win me over straight away. I can still remember buying it on release day.

This was a very funny read! The almost 100% negative feedback. I was 8 in 2008 but I felt the same way about Adele, one of those Amy Winehouse wannabes getting pushed out of nowhere. Obviously my feelings have changed lol
i think this is one boring mess. i couldn't even finish listening to it.

it may grow on me in the future...her voice is nice though.
