Tesco has approved secret plans to build wind turbines up to 50ft high at virtually all of its 2,000 stores.

The group is desperate to improve its green credentials and wants planning laws relaxed for its so-called micro-generation schemes.

Environmentalists last night questioned whether it was any more than window dressing to improve the image of a firm accused of expoiting farmers and unnecessarily transporting goods thousands of miles across the world.

So do you think this is just a PR stunt? Do wind turbines do any good anyway? Could they ruin the look of the countryside?

they are ok... they can be taken down, they arnt there forever and look better then a power station!.

i cant really see any real objections tbh.

I think they look alright actually. They aren't ugly at all.

The primary school school in our village have built one in their playing field.

Whether it is a publicity stunt or not; it will be doing some good!

I think they look fantastic. I can sit and watch them for hours.

They certainly don't ruin the landscape. Generally those complaining that they do are local property owners worried about the value of their occasional summer country homes.

I can't say I'm against them using renewable energy at their stores, but it makes you wonder.

Tesco Power Supply - every little helps :funky:

Why can't we have nice pretty ones like in Dutchieland? :(

I actually don't mind them. They look better than a dirty great power station. Although I suppose it depends where they are situated. I wouldn't like to see 1,000 wind thingys plonked in an area of great scenic beauty like Loch Lomond.

Loch Lomond no, but they do add a new dimension to the Scottish countryside - especially when you have a really clear blue sky, lush green grass and these stark white windmills - just looks great.
I agree. There are quite a few wind farms around my part of the country. They look quite pretty in a strange kind of way.

They look quite cool. :kink:

And it's all to do with the enviroment and all so..

the only people who 'can't see any objections' are the people who can't see wind turbines - all the MPs, in particular, who approved these monstrosities - I wonder if they'd be so lenient if a turbine was erected on the green fields in front of their homes?

They're an absolute blot on any landscape... but they seem to be ok and no problem if they don't blot your landscape.

I've got quite a few of them around where I live. I don't mind them. But then I'm not in an especially scenic part of the world. When I was growing up I was surrounded by ugly pit bings. I much prefer my windmills. ;)

Companies just can't win can they... they want to be green friendly but if they are they are accused of creating eyesores
Wind Turbines, to me, are a symbol of our nation for once getting off our arses and doing something good for a change - I'd HAPPILY have one in my back garden (if it was big enough obv), they're hypnotic to watch and symbolise our desire to improve our world. That's rare IMO.

totally disagree.

i dont mind if i could see them, i dont think that they are a monstrosity at all, and i repeat... they are far better then the power stations that litter this valley!

the countryside ISNT a museum, its a living, working, landscape that we have utilised for our benefit for millenia and the point is that we HAVE to produce environmentally friendly energy. as i see it wind turbines are the best option we have ATM. when better solutions come along then these turbines can be taken down.

i don't mind them either, i don't think they are ugly at all,

however placing them at tesco's is just wrong in many cases.

fine, riverside drive is hideously windy so it'd be worthwhile there,

but many of thier smaller stores are in smaller towns that would be ruined by them.

there nice, but they suit an industrial landscape more than a senic one

what would you rather have on your doorstep, a wind turbine, or an n-plant ^_^
