A hymn to lost love and regret, ‘Chasing Pavements’ follows Adele’s first limited edition single ‘Hometown Glory’, which introduced Adele to the world to much critical acclaim. Blues tinged and melancholic, Adele describes ‘Chasing Pavements’ as “It’s me being hopeful for a relationship that’s very much over. The sort of relationship you hate when you’re in it, but miss when you’re not”. - HMV

Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue started out as an actress, working on the TV show NEIGHBOURS, whose UK popularity eventuated the young singer taking up with megapop production team Stock, Aitken & Waterman (who also made Rick Astley a success). With that titanic trio behind her, Kylie became the queen of the British pop charts, scoring hit after hit. Like Sheena Easton, she eventually changed her image from girl-next-door to sex-kitten and shortly thereafter became the paramour of INXS vocalist Michael Hutchence. Though Kylie reigned supreme in the UK, establishing a Madonna-like presence on records and in films, she never took off in America until her 2002 album FEVER finally made her a US dance-pop diva. In Spring 2005, whilst touring her Greatest Hits, Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer. After successfully battling the disease the world tour resumed 18 months later in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia to a rapturous reception. - HMV

'Wow' is really good but I think 'In My Arms' is much better. :D I'm glad this is still top 5 though. Too bad it didn't peak any higher.

Yeah, sadly it looks like 'Elevator' will be #1 here sometime in the near future too...

Though journalistic shorthand often finds Nickelback dubbed "the Canadian Creed", the band found success on its own terms right from the start with the 2000 debut album THE STATE. It may be true that the band's heavy guitars, pounding drums, and dramatic vocals are in line with the Creed approach, but like that band, Nickelback is equally indebted to the heavy metal and hard rock heroes of the '70s. As with many other 21st century heavy rockers, though, Nickelback fits catchy pop sensibilities into their sonic onslaught, ensuring as enthusiastic a reception from radio as they receive from their rabid fanbase. - HMV
