Wasn't she working on a book / novel as well?

She’s gonna be involved in a forthcoming animated movie - that’s what I heard. But nothing related to Royal Woman.

Sad news, Geri’s brother Max has passed away aged 54 :(
Thinking of Geri and her family. She was so close to her brother

So sad. Geri is a private person when it comes to her family, I hope the media respects that.

Richard X has talked about her whole Geri / Rachel Stevens Some Girls saga in a new podcast episode. The story itself isn't new for most of us, what I didn't know however is that Geri apparently wrote a comeback single about Richard but that never got released (obviously, otherwise we would have known). Eamon and Frankee could never!

You can listen to it hear, between 56:40 and 1:00:40. (beware, he is not very positive about her).

I think Geri wanted writing credit on Some Girls if I recall which may have pissed him off.

Rachel was the easier option as I expect she’d just do what he asked without question. Geri would’ve been more of a challenge. My two cents.

Absolutely! That's what Richard says as well, Rachel and her label didn't have any changes or feedback and he could do exactly what he wanted. Surely Geri would have had other demands (which makes sense as well). Overall I think the song went to the right person, Rachel did a great job, and Geri gave us Ride It which also did well for her. Don't think her version of Some Girls would have been much bigger.

I love set me off it's like ride 2.0 I think it was meant for the disco album that never happened and so is (100% pure love) I think the album was called disco sisters or something before the whole passion thing .

There was a song called 'Set Me Off' rumoured around the time of 'Ride It' (if memory serves)

Set Me Off leaked about 15 years ago and it's definitively not about Richard X:

As the Richard X stuff goes...since he's the writer/producer of the song, I do understand why he'd have such an interest in who performs it. So he didn't view Geri as the right match...that's fair enough (even though he's been a bit more rude than necessary about it...)

There is some hypocrisy I think has to be called out here. Richard X is sharing this story about some alleged diss track Geri wrote about him...making Geri sound like she's just ca-raaazy. That track is unreleased and unheard...and I guess no one would even know about it if it weren't for him bringing it up. Meanwhile, he's the one who actually wrote and *released* a diss track about Geri. So...

Exactly. Geri wrote a track to get it out of her system probably, but realised it would be a tad childish. I'm sure Richard X hoped that she would though so that he could get more publicity for the Annie track.

All that said, I do actually think Some Girls would have been good for Geri. And I can pretty easily imagine Geri's voice (post-nodule surgery) singing it. I've always liked Ride It...but I think Some Girls would have made the bigger comeback for her. It would have been a more dynamic reinvention...especially coupled with a sleek video revealing the return of curvy Geri (as opposed to the 'look at this goofy thing my friends and I made!' that is the Ride It video). Assuming she'd let the cool, electronic vibe of the song stay...I do actually think she'd have a more successful third album era.

Two last thoughts. 1. I've always found it odd that Geri clamored for an already-written track as she always seemed to be involved in the writing of her material (bar her few covers). None of her collaborators have ever disputed her deep involvement. Was this the only time that happened?

2. Richard X says in this podcast that he didn't want it to go to Geri for fear of it turning out something like Bag It Up. I don't exactly think *that* was in the cards. But I am somewhat curious if Geri would have tried to refashion the song into something bigger and dancier in the vein of her unreleased 100% Pure Love. I mean. Maybe not. I could see her pulling off the vibe of Some Girls as it is.

Look at Desire. It's sort of the same electronic sleek vibe that Some Girls has. Even Set You Off is kind of in the same genre, albeit more poppy. I don't think there's any reason that Geri would've turned camped up the song significantly. As for why Geri wanted it... it sounds like the track was passed around different A&Rs and obviously sounded like an obvious hit, since it's obvious they were struggling with finding a proper lead single for the Passion project, I can see why Geri wanted it.

Honestly, I might've liked Some Girls if Geri had sung it. I always found Rachel's voice too flat and I've never seen the appeal.

I cant hear Geri on it, personally, but maybe I am biased as I just love Rachel's version and Im not a fan of most of Geri's solo work ah :teresa:

I guess on your last points:

1. Not odd at all. Most often than not, acts will have songs sent to them that they then work with also on the writing. Granted the girls as a group were always very driven to write from scratch but producers have also mentioned that they had basis of tracks sometimes and the girls would then add lyrics to it. I think this makes sense and it is very common to have artists simply jumping on songs. Geri also did some covers, and it doesnt feel like this is something she wouldnt do...

2. I guess Bag It Up is really a staple about her work. It was cringe, in my opinion, and I get what he is saying about it. It's what put me off from her most of the time, to be frank. She did replicate that 'cringe pop' vibe with Ride It in both the song and video, so I guess he was right lol
