good god no, I must have been the only person in the UK to be over the moon that Crazy Frog kept this lot off the number one when they released Speed Of Sound.

No - just no

I really hope it goes all the way and I will be downloading it tomorrow :D

Surely it will be chart ineligible like Madonna - Hey You & the Ting Tings - Great DJ were as it is being released initially for free like those two tracks were?

Hey You charted

I can't wait for this personally. Find it hard to accept the criticism they come under on here, On the number 1 front - probably not but who cares - their album will sell half a million in a week

They never been a single-group but on the other side their album are stable and sales A LOT in their first week... 404 of the last one for example.

I'll but the single too and the album of course but they do this for an hype for the album and a lot of talking about them and they know they dont be able to take the number 1 spot because of that but the album will be a BLAST as always...

with the free shows and all of that... :)

Hmmm maybe they are only bothered about the album and not the single.

This talks all a bit premature until we've heard it though, it could be the worst song they've ever done - or their best!

No, I really was too. 'Speed Of Sound' was bad even by their standards.

I really can't stand this band, so I'm hoping they won't get a #1 single to their name now or ever. I did quite like 'Talk', 'Trouble' and 'In My Place' (maybe 'Fix You' too in the right mood) but no, mostly bland MOR radio fodder.

As it stands it'll be NCQ'd so the answer is resoundingly no! Even if the OCC did let the sold (non-free) sales count at their peak which was in 2005 imo they could only shift just over 40k in a week. So with thousands of sales lost through the give away i.e. their fanbase who are the only ones likely to buy it in the first few weeks and not in November they'd actually stand no chance #7 + another 43 weeks in the top40/75.

I'm not so sure it'll be NCQ

The free downloads are only available from Coldplay's own site so won't interfere with the paid-for site downloads

It still won't be number 1 though

Hey You charted

Yes, in November 2007 when the Live Earth CD was available and people were able to download it from that album were it charted at #187.

But none of the digital paid downloads counted between the end of May until then, because it was digitally free for a week beforehand on MSN.

No doubt the same thing will happen with the Ting Tings, when their album We Started Nothing is released 19th May, so that Great DJ will probably finally chart at say #106 due to sales bought from the album version.

It charted on Sunday 3 June at 187 on downloads-only

Perhaps not bend, but change... It's a stupid rule anyway and it'll need something high profile before it's stopped...

The Rule itself isnt "Stupid" its the way the OCC keep changing their minds about it! One minute its ok, the next its not!

I like the idea if its being given away for free then it shouldnt be chart eligable because in a way it is sorta cheating, whilst people are BUYING for stuff they actually like! Whereas people may download it (As its free) just to see what its like (Like Rich), if they dont like it, it will still go towards the success of the single (That could be one of their least fave songs).

Whereas even though the prices are ridiculous, I care about the industry and if im giving my money to them then they can produce something else for me to like! But if its given away for free... then GREAT (for the person buying it) but it would kill off companies who wont have enough to fund for anything else in the future!

It's a shame they've become way too over-exposed, because now i cannot bear to listen to any of their records, let alone their albums, so i know here and now that I will dislike this track regardless of how good it is, and hopefully, though very unlikely, it will just about scrape top 5 and drop like a stone......

:cheer: :yahoo: :w00t: :cheer: :yahoo:  :dancing:

Really looking forward to hearing this :D Sounds like they're gonna experiment with their sound slightly which intrigues me even more ^_^
Really looking forward to hearing the new song at noon today. B)
Didn't realise this thread was here...Can't wait for this, 12:15pm UK time is 9:15pm so I'll definately be downloading it tonight :yahoo:

Money isn't made from singles any more anyway, they'll lost hardly anything by giving it away.

I do quite like it. It's not that different but it's not that typical Coldplay, either...

has anyone registered to get the download? I have but when I click on the link in my email it asks for a user name and a password, neither of which I have...

I have, but not got the e-mail yet :( I heard Violet Hill on youtube earlier anyway.

The two of you above this post - aren't you lucky? I haven't got the email yet.

(Mind you, we do have until next Tuesday to download it.)
