Posted June 3, 200817 yr Mint Royale set for number one single 12:03 | Tuesday June 3, 2008 By Ben Cardew Mint Royale look set to score an unlikely number one hit this Sunday with their 2005 single Singing In the Rain (Direction). The song, which is 10,000 sales ahead of its nearest competitor Rihanna’s Take A Bow (Def Jam) despite only being available as a download, was featured as the music to George Sampson’s winning dance routine on ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent, which finished last Saturday. The track re-entered the chart last Sunday at 28, but has shot up this week. It originally reached number 20 hit in 2005, when it was used as the soundbed to a Volkswagen Golf advert. The same act also looks likely to score a top thirty entry with their Mint Royale-issued Harpy. Elsewhere on the singles chart, Gabriella Cilmi’s Sweet About Me (Island) looks set to enter the top ten on Sunday, while Morrissey’s All You Need Is Me (Decca) should challenge for a top twenty placing. On the albums chart, seven new releases are vying for top twenty entries this Sunday, with Paul Weller’s 22 Dreams (Island) likely to top the chart, while The Zutons’ You Can Do Anything (Deltasonic), Radiohead’s Best Of (Parlophone) and Alphabeat’s This Is Alphabeat (Charisma) set to score top ten entries. June 3, 200817 yr You're kidding! Just cos that kid in the shower danced to it? What about that ingenius Gene Kelly video? How come that didn't take the song to number one? People are weird.
June 3, 200817 yr How funny when it rains heavily in England when Rihanna is #1 here and last year she had the longest #1 since Wet, Wet, Wet with Umbrella, and now a dance mix of Singing In the Rain has a chance of knocking her off the top spot!
June 3, 200817 yr Author Mint Royale is #1, and Pauil Weller in the albums Give 5 to 10 mins to update
June 3, 200817 yr YAH! Go Mint Royale! I'm not a fan of the track but its nice now that we're not having #1s last for 5 weeks!
June 3, 200817 yr You're kidding! Just cos that kid in the shower danced to it? What about that ingenius Gene Kelly video? How come that didn't take the song to number one? People are weird. Agreed. And it is just plain AWFUL.
June 3, 200817 yr EXCELLENT. Mint Royale #1, Gabriella top 10 finally, and despite the single flop Alanis in the top 15 albums.
June 3, 200817 yr Pleased that Elbow made top 40! They'll probably fall throughout the week though :(
June 3, 200817 yr I think Mint Royale could go either way. Lets face it the excitement of BGT will subside quickly, so its possible by tomorrow people wont care much about the song and it will slide down OR There'll be inteest from the media etc taht its #1 keeping it in the spotlight, and it could say# i wouldnt rule out #1 or even #6 tbh
June 3, 200817 yr Author OK, I don't understand why Mint Royale are #1 and #23 both tracks have last week's position of #28 in brackets
June 3, 200817 yr Author Could you give the position of Hard Candy please? Thanks a lot  12+12=???
