I wonder if it was released a few days earlier then planned to take advantage of Fathers day....i think because of that sales could be about 280k.

I don't think it's going to do that well. 150k tops for it's first 7 days maybe push it up to 200k by the 2nd weekend.

185k

Why the Thursday release?

The record company knows Viva La Vida will be number one in the release week even with the first day's sales. I think they want to move part of the sales to the other week to secure a second week at number 1.

I hope it shifts Nothing :drama:

But it will shift around 210K from thursday...

it'll shift more than alphabeat thats for sure  ....hoping at least 190 k in those 3 days

Is it only me who cannot stand Coldplay  So boring!

Of course its not just you, but in a coldplay thread, you're inevitably going to hear coldplay praise.

They aren't everyones cup of tea but i think the people who 'get' coldplay are quite lucky coz i dunno about anyone else but it sends shivers down my spine when i hear some of their tracks.

I think they are a bit of a dad band, and its on father's day, so i think 225k, which is a lot, and a bit over 100k next week
I'm a little surprised by the figures, I think it will be huge. 400k in 3 days is a possibility, the hype is there and having heard the album, it certainly warrants it. :yahoo:
It will be massive. I'm NOT a fan at all, but I cannot see anything below 400K.

Well a mid week release didn't stop Oasis from shifting 685k in a few days but that was back in 1997 and times have changed. However I think this will be very strong especially with fathers day so i'll say: (Thursday: 145k, Friday 82k and Saturday 205k) 432,000.

Agreed this still has the potential to outsell X & Y, it’s simply the biggest album release for well over a year!

200K first day, so most certainly over 400K by Sunday.

Where is the information about the 200K for 1 day? I think your wrong.

No, they basically wanted to release it on a Thursday so like Be Here Now it comes out on the same day around the world (though I think this may have been out on Wednesday in Japan)

OFFICIAL NUMBERS. first day - 125,000 K. without digital copies such as ITUNES, which is a lot...

mm.

Coldplay’s Viva La Vida sold 125,000 units on its day of release, according to sales figures released today by The Official Charts Company.

As such, the album is near-guaranteed the number one slot in the chart this Sunday, despite being released unusually on a Thursday.

Indeed, after just one day’s sales Viva La Vida is already outselling the rest of the top five albums.

The album has also made a notable impact at radio: it is on playlists at Radios One, Two and 6Music, among others.

The band plays a free gig at London’s Brxton Academy on Monday (June 16) to mark the release.
