June 15, 200817 yr I don't get it when people say they won't vote for popular songs? Surely your voting on the song; and not it's chart position?
June 15, 200817 yr I just thought people might not vote for mine as it didn't really require much research...but next time i'm gonna enter an album track or b-side :)
June 15, 200817 yr Author I don't vote for popular songs when they've been popular to ridiculous levels and are just obvious cheap attempts at victory - examples of this being Don't Stop the Music, All I Want For Christmas Is You and Maneater - but I don't really think that If I Never See Your Face Again comes under this merely because it isn't such an obviously hugely popular track as those were :P
June 15, 200817 yr I would vote a popular song depending on how much I liked it. But I do think its better when people put more thought into it tbh, it seems kinda lazy when it's been such a hit on a large scale. I wouldn't consider 'If I Never See Your Face Again' a hit yet. It's peak is #29 :P

I think you only really need to worry about cheap attempts to win if the song was in the top ten at some point.
June 15, 200817 yr I don't get it when people say they won't vote for popular songs? Surely your voting on the song; and not it's chart position? For me personally, I like to support the new music and give it a chance. I'd hate to be the one giving a decisive 12 points to something like Maneater...would that really be a good winner!?! The age of the song also plays a factor. If someone sent an amazing but forgotten no.8 hit from 1998 then I might vote for it. If someone sent a recent no.8 hit, it would struggle to get points from me for sheer lack of imagination in song choice!
June 15, 200817 yr Author If someone sent an amazing but forgotten no.8 hit from 1998 then I might vote for it. Show Me Love :kink:

I think if I liked two songs exactly the same amount then I may choose a new song over a well-known song but if, like with Natasha Bedingfield and Rachel Stevens this time round, that the songs are really good then I think the songs should be given all the credit they deserve
June 15, 200817 yr Show Me Love :kink: Yes  I once had that in my national final! I sent Andreas Johnson in contest 3 and although that got to no.4 in the UK, a surprising amount of people had forgotten about the track.
June 15, 200817 yr I'll vote for a recent hit if it's good. =| *shrugs* I gave Don't Stop the Music a high placing when it was entered because it's a great pop song. Why does it matter if the song is popular or not? Shouldn't it matter if it's good or not? I mean...I agree it would be boring if everoyne just entered what's in the charts (which is why I always try to throw it off a bit - Katy Perry is currently only big in the US, Veronicas never really hit it big, Wynter Gordon hasn't even had her single released), but I look at all songs on a clean slate. If it's good, it gets points. If it's not? It doesn't. Popularity is not a factor pour moi. :o Becuase I think entering something like 'Don't Stop The Music' gives a massive advantage to whoever's entered it and it's far from a level playig field. I feel these contests work better with an unkown edge to it, it has got better with everyone I entered though,I have to say.. There are only two songs I know I won't vote for in this one. Out of 42 or whatever, that's good. Edited June 15, 200817 yr by RabbitFurCoat

I had never made the connection! I love that song but I'd not heard it for ages and had no idea it was him!!! :o :o :o
June 15, 200817 yr I vote on the song... NOT Artist, Not Chart position nothing else but the SONG because thats what this contest is about. If i like a song then its more than likely gonna get points from me. I mean if i hated an artist but liked the song loads (Take Estelle for example) I am probably gonna end up giving that at least one point if i think its a better song than the others..
