The beginning of another week, and a preview of what might happen, on next Sunday`s charts. With thanks to, the help of Peter Jay, and John McManus in their stores for info, on pre-orders. All put together, from info from HMV, ASDA, WOOLWORTHS, WHSMITH, ZAVVI, SAINSBURY, and TESCO. Add in download sites, at iTunes, HMV, TESCO, NAPSTER, and we come up with an average selection of album, and singles charts.

Last week, in the Singles we did absolutely spiffingly well, because for the first time in 19 years, got 40 out of 40 in the chart, 30 in the 30 (although not all in the right order). Hardly, any new entries in there! Outside the top 40: ANNIE - I KNOW YOUR GIRLFRIEND HATES ME, and THE FEELING - TURN IT UP reside in the top 50, just outside the top 40 are USHER - MOVING MOUNTAINS, and HOMETOWN GLORY - ADELE. LINKIN PARK - LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST, ONE NIGHT ONLY - YOU AND ME, are in the top 60. GIMME GIMME GIMME (A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT appears at 73 from the MAMMA MIA Soundtrack.

The other week, I tipped NOAH AND THE WHALE (and they are in the 40, on downloads alone). Here are three tips, for future release:

LAY YOUR LOVE ON ME - BWO (released 28th Jul)

BUILT TO LAST - MELEE (released 21st Jul)

CAMEL - FAT FREDDY`S DROP (released 21st Jul)

BWO should squeeze in the top 40, as should MELEE. FAT FREDDY`s DROP probably won`t! Although, I must confess, I find it quite fun.

How did Radio Luxembourg do, in July 1976?

01 01 DON`T GO BREAKING MY HEART - ELTON JOHN/KIKI DEE

02 02 FOREVER AND EVER - DEMIS ROUSOS

03 05 A LITTLE BIT MORE - DR HOOK

13 08 YOU JUST MIGHT SEE ME CRY - OUR KID

14 11 LEADER OF THE PARK - SHANGRI-LAS

15 15 THE BOSTON TEA PARTY - ALEX HARVEY

16 26 HEAVEN MUST BE MISSING AN ANGEL - TAVARES

25 NE NO CHANCE - BILLY CONNOLLY

27 27 GOOD VIBRATIONS - BEACH BOYS

28 NE MYSTERY SONG - STATUS QUO

29 NE A FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN - WALTER MURPHY`S BIG APPLE BAND

30 NE I THOUGHT IT TOOK A LITTLE TIME - DIANA ROSS

In July 1976 (the longest hot summer, of the 20th Century), Radio Luxembourg had 10 in the 10, 17 in the 20, and 27 in the 30. The Luxy bosses, obviously missed out the ISLEY BROTHERS "HARVEST FOR THE WORLD", here...probably forgot to include it! As it was already up 4 places, in the BBC top 30. Looking down that chart, we see that TV talent show "NEW FACES", had a run of "stars" on their hands with OUR KID,THE REAL THING, and LIVERPOOL EXPRESS (all from Liverpool). Where did the REAL THING spring from? I ask that because they won NEW FACES in 1975. Then suddenly bang, they were number one, with YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING. I must admit I was never a fan, of The REAL THING, and this proved more so...when I saw them live. I found a rather big ego, from the lead singer. Definately not to my liking! :puke2: Although, LIVERPOOL EXPRESS were just brilliant!

wow! well done on getting all of the top 40 right last week :o

McFly at No.10 is wishful thinking...I can't see it missing the top 5...

First Cascada, then Scooter, and now Basshunter for a #1 album? :puke2: :puke2: :puke2:

CHAV dance must DIE.

And I really hope Primal Scream, CSS, & Noah & The Whale go top 40. And surely grandma Vadge has to be top 3 with the physical - she's a lock to sell 8,000-10,000 physical sales alone next week.

get used to it ;)

pop dominated the start of the decade, indie dominated the middle part and now it looks like dance and R&B is truly taking over the final part of the noughties

even the biggest dance acts back at the start of the decade could only scrape into the top ten album chart (Alice Deejay, Ian Van Dahl) whereas now you can imagine that even if someone like Kelly Llorenna or Flip & Fill released an album it would ease into the top ten quite...

But even Sonique, Chemical Brothers, Moloko & Basement Jaxx had hugely successful albums in the first half of the noughties because they had consistent hits on radio & TV.

Besides, I know whose fault it is for bringing us chav dance: DJ Otzi.

this is true, but they weren't 'chav dance' they were very respectable artists...not a word I'd use to describe Basshunter or Cascada

tacky dance music has always been about, like Vengaboys and Eiffel 65 for example...its just never had such significant album success before

We were quite kind in placing them at 10, I thought! :D The figures, we got on the physical pre-order, is way behind the downloads. Sometimes, downloads are a good thing, in stopping the likes of McFly, Westlife etc!

I love to see McFly at #10, but its got top 5 written all over it.
Basshunter #1 album?! What is the world coming to? :(

One word
