July 24, 200816 yr There's nothing special about The Verve song at all. Very bland. I LOVE IT - Seems to be everywhere at the moment too :)
July 24, 200816 yr Author I would be stunned if The Verve didn't open with >50k sales just on a nostalgia trip!
July 24, 200816 yr I'll say a '5th' week for Dizzee and Calvin, I just hope to god that awful Kid Rock record stays at number 2 and is never allowed even a week at the top, though now ive said this just watch it happen... As much as I'm really liking The Saturdays record, i'm thinking top 10 at best but given the slow nature of the charts it could ony do a top 20 stint for a few weeks I think I'd go as far as saying The Verve are almost gauranteed number one when htey release on August 4th ANYHTING BUT KID F***ING C**k and ill be happy!!!!!!!!!
July 24, 200816 yr I would be stunned if The Verve didn't open with >50k sales just on a nostalgia trip! Spice Girls proved that nostalgia doesn't sell singles... I think The Verve will open with 30k as an absolute max, 15k minimum
July 24, 200816 yr I dont think The verve will be number 1 TBH! I think they will get about number 6-7
July 24, 200816 yr I think Kid Rock has a chance to be honest. He's now extremely close to overtaking Dizzee on itunes now (as seen by the popularity bars -especially if you add both the versions). The Saturdays will surely go top 5? The Verve will do well i reckon, top 3 id say And Katy is EASILY gonna hit #1, think itll end up being in the top 10 of the year as well. The dance version by that Nikki is still climbing itunes AND in ireland shes #11 :o
July 24, 200816 yr And for the thread topic itself, I say Dizzee, Kid Rock won't do it, and The Saturdays, its their debut single, you only have to look at the sales for Dizzee, for a debut girl group they will have to sell over 25k plus to do it, which is a hard feat these days Well put it this way. Despite in my opinion the tune is tepid tuneless drivel, with its main strength being the sample of the vastly superior Yazoo's Situation and it makes the forthcoming PCD's single seem musically epic in comparison. The simple fact that they've hyped the single on their tour in support of Girls Aloud, and have had their advance text messaging (i.e. cheating IMHO) system in place for a month, and the fact the single is #1 in advance sales on HMV & Amazon.co.uk (& was #2 two weeks ago before McFly's single was released) suggests anyone thinking this song will fail to reach the Top 5 is being naive. Therefore I fully expect it to be #1 on Tuesday's midweeks, with the question being whether it can hang on until Sunday.
July 24, 200816 yr Author Spice Girls proved that nostalgia doesn't sell singles... I think The Verve will open with 30k as an absolute max, 15k minimum True, but the writing was on the wall for the Spice Girls from the moment they announced the new single. The Verve and The Spice Girls are totally different kettles of fish. Oasis have proved consistently this decade that there is a huge market out there for mid nineties indie bands. Given it’s been 11 years, it’s been greatly anticipated, gone down very well at the festivals and sits nicely between A Northern Soul and Urban Hymns in terms of style I fully expect The Verve to enter at No1, just like Oasis will at the end of September with 'Shock Of The Lightning’.
July 24, 200816 yr Author and have had their advance text messaging (i.e. cheating IMHO) system in place for a month, :manson: This should be outlawed by the OCC, a single should only count towards the chart in the week it was purchased i.e. sales bought before hand should be NCQ'd. It's totally unfair to allow these manufactured acts to build up sales for the first day it's like turning a week into 5 weeks especially when the people who have bought them may or may not even download it. On the plus side I don't think they'll have racked up anywhere near the sales that McFly did when they employed this dire tactic...
July 25, 200816 yr The Saturdays with ease - The Girls Aloud fans are already hysterical about the band!

July 25, 200816 yr Im starting to think The Script... jumped over 100 places on itunes since lunchtime today...
July 25, 200816 yr ^^Yep I've changed my mind...I think The Script are looking like a big contender now
July 25, 200816 yr wow at The Script's success...who was the last Irish act to top the chart? U2? I know it used to happen a lot in the late 90's what with Boyzone, Westlife, Corrs, B*Witched and others...

July 25, 200816 yr Author Wowzers at The Script it sounds so nothingy but does have a 'Your Beautiful' vibe. A massive climb up iTunes but will it go all the way? I'm not entirely convinced, having said that it probably spend 4 weeks at No1.

July 25, 200816 yr I still think The Saturdays will be #01 on Sunday tbh, they have those text sales and the hype around them is absolutely huge at the moment. I think if they do it would only be for one week, maybe two at a push though ...
