Friday Update Top 40 Only

Singles

01 Katy Perry 32.6k

05 The Verve 17.2k

A gap this large would seem to rule out the Verve for #1 next week - physical sales aren't going to make *that* much of a difference, even assuming Katy's sales don't themselves increase.

Besides, the Verve have slipped from 2-3 on iTunes, suggesting a significant degree of front-loading of even their download sales.

I think album sales haven't been given because they're far too shamefully low

The Katy Perry phenomenom is contrived music industry fodder - which of course appeals to 'stupid' masses.

I know lets get a gospel singer, change her image so that she looks a bit 'edgy', and to top it off lets get her music to hint at lesbianism so that the young kids will think her 'cool' and original.

It's all so obvious............. and obviously $h!t too ;-)

That Katy Perry song has some of the most excruciating lyrics I've heard in a long time. "Us girls we are so magical, Soft skin, red lips, so kissable". Indeed. The only reason it'll reach the top is because it's the first controversial pseudo-lesbian anthem since All The Things She Said back in 2003.

yeah its as bad as Eamon and Frankee swearing...tho discounting the pseudo-lesbian aspect - t.A.T.u was a great record - even when it was in its original Russian...much more than Perry's tune that sounds like a reject from P!nk or Kelly Clarkson

That Kid Rock songs annoys me too, the guy can't sing.. and talk about ripping off a classic song with it's sampling! It's wouldn't be a tenth as popular without it's liberal borrowing from Sweet Home Alabama.

well most of the song is not SHA - most of its borrowed from Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London
